1. Thanks, very interesting.
 2.
Thinner pick, faster pace! I have done this before and you can get upto some very fast speeds. Awesome fun and once you pair it with a fast fretting hand it looks impressive. Thicker pick, more meaty tone but difficult to go incredibly fast.
I don't mean to deny your experience and I rarely play with a pic but I would expect a thicker stiffer pick to be faster than a thinner more flexible pick.
 3.
I play a lined fretless and have noticed that by playing right on the line you will be out of tune. In the lower positions you should be slightly in front of the line, while high up the neck you should be slightly behind.
I'm using an unlined Precision now but when I had a lined Jazz I noticed this same thing - Gary Willis refers to it on his website too. There have been a couple of threads on BC where I asked if anyone could explain why this was the case but no one seemed to have an answer and others denied that it was so.
 4.
-Play it like a fretted bass. i.e - don't go sliding up and down to the notes because it's possible to do so.
I'd say this is a really good tip for getting started on fretless - practice doing on the fretless what you can already do on fretted - it's certainly what I did. Having said that, the slide can help in finding the intonation when simply jumping to the note can be slightly off.
 5.
Dont bother with anything other than Hofner H1133B !! 45-105 .I have a 62 reissue 500/1 ,i've tried Rotosund Jazz flatwounds (too light) & Pyramid Gold (good second choice) but nothing else fit's ,sound's & feel's like the real thing!.They are expensive (£47.00 )and not many dealers keep them,i buy mine from Thomann who are very good.Believe me as a lifelong Beatle man it will save you in the long run.
+1 - Hofner Beatle Bass or Pyramid Gold Beatle Bass.
 6. Don't some Hofners have zero frets?
 7. I've always had excellent service from GAK, especially from Mark (mark_random on BC) in the bass department. Although, IIRC, Mark's off for the next few weeks.
 8.
when was the last original stuff released by the who?
2006

 11.
... the bottom, which I happen to think is a splendid example.....
Agreed, very splendid.
 12.
Also, I can't beleive you people rolling with green papers! Yuck! They're so thick, they give me a sore throat and make me cough (more). I always use silver.
Silver are a step too far - you need blue (and Cutter's Choice).
 13. I think you'll need to have it cut to your present pickguard as a template - but try here: http://auroraproject.co.uk/new_page_3.htm
 14.
The scratch plate is also remarkably flat. For a bass of that age I'd expect to see some warping.
And would a '65 scratchplate have the little cut out for the truss rod?
 15.
I spent years finding this bass ... with every intention of learning to play on the ultimate bass!
Er .. hang on ... sounds familiar.
 16. I believe this bass used to be mine (before Lee650) - in which case I recommend it and there are some excellent pics of it somewhere in this forum.
 17.
I've put both older style (single coil type) and newer type (split pickup style) bridge covers over Gotoh 201s with no problems
Interesting, thank you.
 18.
Maybe one day a Tony Franklin fretless???
Very nice Clarky. Are you turning into Water of Tyne? Now as for Tony Franklin, the other day I got a PM from a German basschatter offering me an extremely generous price (and so a very attractive profit) for my TF but I said 'NO!'
 19.
no old chap...put the bpom back on or forget the exercise personally i would keep the high mass etc and stop looking in the mirror at your bass
Ah, what excellent advice.
 20. I should add that I suspect it doesn't fit due to high mass bridge being higher and longer than the BBOT.
 21. Anyone tried putting a bridge cover over a newer high mass Fender/Squier bridge? Does it fit?
 22.
His 63 model is still for sale at $45,000
But imagine how much it would be worth if it had a Badass fitted ... no one could possibly afford it then.
 23.
Discipline dude. [...] Sad fact of playing in a band is that for a number of reasons, you sometimes have to stick to the score.
The main reason will be because it sounds better.
