1.
Not much of a list.... ...Guy Pratt's father Mike, played Randall in....Randall & Hopkirk... Bodie (Lewis Collins) ala The Professional's, played drums and bass and was going to audition for the Beatles drummer but decided to carry on with hairdressing instead...allegedly... .....Ironside was on TV next but all I know I that Raymond Burr didn't... Hulk Hogan... Richard Hammond Top Gear dwarf...well he did for charity... Cap'n Jack Sparrow... any others out there...?
Mike Pratt also wrote songs with Lionel Bart for Tommy Steele in the late fifties and early sixties. I believe he also played piano in Steele's backing band. Lewis Collins played bass with sixties beat combo The Mojos.
 2.
..... McCartney is actually a dynamite player. Very grounded, very solid and groovy but also fantastically creative.
Grounded ... solid ... groovy ... creative. Very nicely stated Jake, but I want to add one word and the word is influential. But the Macca/Beatles haters will be along soon I'm sure.
 3.
So watching the linked video with Chris he plays something and then says that's an inversion. Right there he's in the top few % of all performing musicians for theory knowledge. He also says he couldn't just rip off a diminished scale but he knows the sound of one. How many rock greats even know there is a diminished scale or two? I think his humility is being mistaken for ignorance here, he clearly has a decent grasp of theory that is well above average.
Thank you for recognising that. It's exactly why I posted the video.
 4.
I'm pretty sure he can read music & has some knowledge of theory - as a child he was a chorister at St. Andrews church in Wembley (which at the time Squire was a member was regarded as the best choir in Britain) & would have been required to sight read for this.
I've no idea how much Squire can read but the point made above seems to me likely - even if he hasn't been practicing his reading skills regularly since then. For what it's worth, Bass Player magazine called Squire 'a serious student of harmony' and when they asked who were his biggest harmonic influences he said: 'I got a big education from my years in church choir, which had a really good choirmaster. He taught us a lot about the relationship between vocal lines and bass lines in a choir setting, and I think I adapted a lot of that knowledge into playing bass and singing. I’ve always been very aware of the relationship between the bass and the top melody line.' (Source) I can't say I'm particularly a fan of Yes or Squire, although I wouldn't doubt his abilities.
 5. I can't stand nail on string, so cut them short all the time.

 7.
What would you recommend for through body? I'm gonna try some Thomastik Infelds...
Thomastiks are usually thought to be safe through the body. However I have twice had an A string break at the bridge.
 8. I usually take two. One time I only took one and broke a string first chorus first song. First time I'd broken a string in about 20 years.
 9.
Basschat Distinguished Service Medal.
That's the BDSM.
 10.
Amazing you went ahead with the db. Good on you. There should be some kinda medal.
Basschat Distinguished Service Medal.
 11. I may have to learn that line.
 12.
Good playing... but the bassist in question is minus a P-Bass and a felt pick
Agreed, except didn't Carol Kaye use hard picks?
 13.
oe Osborn played bass on this track I think - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Osborn
Yes, I'd agree very likely to be Joe Osborn, Fender Jazz bass, La Bella flats, played with a pick.
 14. Not working.
 15.
Apart from the lack of logo and the knobs (which should be flat topped) it looks like a Silver Series, and appears to say Made in Japan on the headstock (though it's quite hard to see). But I didn't think the Silver Series started up until a bit later - in fact I don't think any japanese squiers were being sold in this country in 1990. So it's a bit of mystery. Perhaps it's an imported domestic model? You're right to doubt the colour of the logo making it a Silver Series - it doesn't. It's just another of those internet myths, just like the story that ones with gold logos are 'Gold Series'.
That's what I thought too.
 16. Well done, Clarky. How is the hand?
 17.
That's with Badlands guitars - I've dealt with Graham before, nice guy.
Which is just 10 minutes walk from me. I might go to have a look
 18.
£77 and less than 24hrs to go on this one. Not as pretty as the sunbursts (I think) ... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
That one isn't actually a Silver Series is it? Check out no 'Silver Series' logo on the headstock. The seller says it's a silver series because Squier is in silver letters. Is that correct?
 19.
needless to say it will be small output for large retail price tag. We will be seeing these on the for sale section on here in due course if they go on mass production just like the little bastard. Save yourself the bother now and dont buy one.
Hmmm ... wise words I think.
 20. At six weeks per song, it would take about three years before you had enough material for a common pub type two 45 minute sets. So the band would definitely split up before any gigs were done, wouldn't it?
 21.
Any update yet? Just out of interest i'd like to know if i have an alder or basswood bass? PS: I bought my CV jazz in Spring this year, it had an CGS09***** crafted in china serial number.
Every time I see one of the CVs in a shop I check were it was made and I haven't yet come across one not crafted in China.
 22. The only time it ought to take longer than only a little time is when you're not doing a literal 'cover' version but totally rearranging the song. Even then, it shouldn't be anything like six weeks.
 23. Interesting. How loud are those Little Bastards?
 24. It ought not take too long for one to turn up.
