1.
Does anyone know of any purely acoustic bass guitars? I mean an acoustic bass guitar that doesn't have (or at least doesn't always need) a piezo pickup and onboard amp. I used to play in an acoustic pop trio but played a fretless Precision through a practice amp. It worked ok but I always hankered after a purer sound (as well as only needing to carry one case to smaller clubs).
There are some purely acoustic ones, for example the old Eko B4 from the 70s, but you won't hear it when playing with others without amplification.
 2.
What a strange place - on a 3 year old thread - to ask for help! Try the amps & cabs forum - hopefully you'll get more response. Cheerz, Johnr, n
This is the amps & cabs forum. However, new thread is a better idea.
 3.
Ah...... Could be they have not heard of him, and I suppose if they ain't heard of him - they can't really forget him then..... Garry
Cogbill has been discussed here. I think plenty of us have heard of him and more.
 4.
Definitely in the eye of the beholder. I haven't seen a single bass in this thread that I like the look of.
Hey BRX, I think we don't like the same basses but I agree with you completely here.
 5.
I'd be interested if I had some spare cash.

No worries, Dave, though I suspect there's a general chicken-counting thing going on just now ... I haven't won the auction yet. All the same, if I do win it then I suppose this bass might eventually become part of the extended Basschat family.
I refer you to my earlier post.
 6.
Erm yes thanks lads, that's the same link as BigRedX put up. I meant Tommy Denander made it up.
Ah, I misunderstood, and yes very possibly. I'm a Precision with ordinary frets kind of guy myself.
 7.
Ugh, why on earth would you want to do that?
... because he's brilliant and out of tune.
 8.
True temprament. He made that up didn't he? I've heard of Equal and Mean Tone but True?
http://www.truetemperament.com/site/index.php
 9.
Hmmm ... good call. The reason I moved the Lightwave on was that it was "too transparent" and did too good a job of advertising my mistakes. Luckily enough, I'm now a much better bass player and I don't make any. I'm only buying this one so that I can trade it with Clarky anyway ...
Jack, if Clarky doesn't want it then let me know please.
 10. Any chance of a link?
 11.
Pitch Pipes - now they killed the vibe long ago!
... and frets, they killed everything.
 12. Not the original body I guess.
 13. I'd be interested if I had some spare cash.
 14.
Normal. The scratchplates are made pre-drilled, I've never seen a gold anodized guard appear un-drilled. All the replacement ones you see advertised all come pre-drilled, maybe becuase they are metal, dunno, never really thought about it. I've never seen an un-drilled gold guard though. Have you?
Well, on a 57 RI I don't recall but the gold guards on the old American Deluxes are not drilled. I realise that's a different guard/different shape.
 15.
Domestic JV's, certainly after May '82 didnt have thumbrests or chrome covers fitted. Export JV's had these features until May '82, when Fender USA put a stop to it, and switched the large fender/small squire decals round, at the same time.
Ok, but this one has the pickguard holes for tugbar and pickup cover but the body is not drilled beneath the pickguard. What do you make of that?
 16. I think the Westone Thunder 1A was a twenty fret 34" scale bass.
 17. It's not drilled for the tugbar and for the pickup and bridge ashtrays. Should it be?
 18.
Hurry up!
He's too busy playing it nicely.
 19.
Many apologies everyone. I didn't realise that this issue has been 'done to death'. Perhaps a moderator would delete or close the thread.
This has, like most things, been much discussed but why not do it again?
 20. Part of me (i.e my back) prefers lighter rather than heavier but I also have a feeling that a nice solid (i.e. heavier) piece of wood might sound better. Below 10lbs and I'm happy.
 21. I bet that poster is going for a lot more than a pound these days.
 22.
You're killing the bloody vibe now.
Sorry!
