I try to look after my equipment and don't really understand why anyone wouldn't look after their equipment. I'm not precious about it and if it gets a dink so be it and I'm the same with other things in my life. I also carry spare batteries and strings and leads.

I'd say from the pics that it looks fairly normal. However, that's irrelevant, so if you're not happy then send it back.

I think it's called an extended arpeggio. The intervals between the notes are alternating major third and minor third. As you build the chords you go C, Cmaj7, Cmaj9, Cmaj9#11, etc. But I'm right at the edge of my knowledge here so I could be talking rubbish and I'm definitely not explaining why.

I don't see anything wrong with changing basses if that suits the song - I do it often, fretted, fretless, upright.
