1.
Why would you I guess if you hadn't had read their books, the same applies here I think. Purely trying to put it into perspective. By the way if you do like reading then definitely check out Michael Chabon and Jonathan Franzen!
Just realised that there's a Franzen on our shelf and Ms ET has been telling me to read it for ages.
 2.
Love flatwounds, got one of my two P-Basses strung with them right now. The Thomastiks are great, especially if you like lower tension (or compliance or whatever!!).
TI Flats are low tension but high compliance.
 3.
Same for me, although I suppose (for example) that we can all be into different authors but at the same time loathe reading Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, modern guys like Michael Chabon or Franzen, it's just good to keep them in the back of your mind when we read because they're the ones that set a lot of the benchmarks whether we consider it to be interesting or not.
I like and read both Shakespeare and Dickens - I would never think of them as 'virtuosos' but great storytellers. I've never heard of Chabon and Franzen - I looked them up on Wikipedia now.
 4. When I hear the word virtuoso, I tend to switch off. I'm not really interested in virtuoso, I prefer music and songs. Most of the stuff posted here leaves me totally cold.
 5.
....except green. .
I like green and black and they also make very nice chocolate

 7. Who was it that got banned last time we talked about this?
 8. Sunburst neck:
 9.
It is getting into dangerous territory to speculate who manufacturers the strings. Here's why: it is not that much of a leap to go from, "Who makes the strings?" to "Same strings."
So only dangerous if people are stupid.
 10.
Playing sunburst music? Is that what you want? Is it? Well is it?
I'm guessing sunburst is not in BRX's list of top finishes.
 11. I don't really see how a bass can look cool, whatever that is, or boring merely because of the colour of its body finish. If I didn't like the look of a particular bass then painting it black or whatever is not going to make it cool. Like BRX said, most aren't wholly black anyway. I'm always surprised at the love for black body with maple fingerboard - not black and not cool for me at all.
 12.
Being offered a trade for a 96 jap p 62 reissue
All other things being equal that's possibly (IMHO) a better bass than the Highway but there's no substitute for trying them out.
 13.
Indeed. This is the case with Ken Smith bass strings.
So, who is making Ken Smith's strings?
 14.
... I read somewhere Berlin was the one guy who introduced slapping as a technique ...
Wasn't Larry Graham slapping while Berlin was still in his early teens?
 15.
Somebody started a similar thread on Talkbass last year - any comments, do we think they're right? http://www.talkbass....ndbergs-842466/
The TB thread tends towards thinking that if some other company makes the strings then they must be the same as some string made by that other company. That's not correct because the string companies will be making whatever is ordered from them. So, in this example, Sandberg could be using GHS without them strictly being Super Steels.
 16. Long discussion on who makes which strings here but I don't think Sandberg got a mention. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/171152-who-makes-which-strings
 17.
Aren't Fender strings made by D'Addario these days? G.
http://basschat.co.uk/topic/171152-who-makes-which-strings
 18. Eleven pages here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/201999-fender-boring-and-dull/
 19. Oh dear, I want this but I need someone else to buy it before I do.
 20.
This arrived today. Hope the use of the p word doesn't offend lol
Very good. That's the answer.
 21.
Aren't Fender strings made by D'Addario these days? G.
That seems to be the case.
 22. Each to his or her own but I really don't see the point of most instruments if you're not going to play them with others. If I didnt play in bands I wouldn't play bass guitar or upright bass. Piano is good because then you can accompany your self.
 23.
People hear with their eyes. Nobody will be impressed that you sound good on a cheap bass. They'll just assume you're an amateur for not having a better instrument....
This may be true of you but it's not at all true of everybody
