2. I don't have a Jazz at present but when I have had and if i did again it would definitely have flats on it. Hear this from about 2.30 ... http://youtu.be/06X5HYynP5E
 3. Joe Osborn, Jazz bass with flats - lots of Simon and Garfunkel, 5th Dimension, and other West Coast sixties pop. Lots of sixties Uk pop with John Paul Jones on Jazz with flats. Check out earlly Scott Walker albums. Etc etc and often with a pick.
 4.
After the gig He said that he couldn't go any lower to get the sound He needed to get ?
In that case he has got the wrong equipment for the gig. I play with a guitarist who likes his 30 watts turned up loud but he puts it at the back in the corner and facing the wall. Still gets the sound but the volume is dissipated.
 5.
Well spotted, its the Sean Hurley signature P bass
Ah, OK. vaguely know of him. Checking it out now.
 6.
Nice, but I prefer this one (and its cheaper!)
That appears to have a Jaguar guitar mute.
 7.
Yes, they're cathode biased so you can change the valves without biasing. It's not actually true class a, just very hot class ab. The Lionheart range are the only amps they make that could be described as true class a. To be honest, even in a fixed biased class ab, biasing is less of an issue than you think, it's unlikely to damage the amp in any way unless you run something that's way out of range like a kt77 in an el34 amp.
Thanks again bu no further action due to valves in Brighton and amp in Liverpool.
 8.
I'm confused now; am I shallow or not? I think I should be told
I think BRX and myself agree that you are not shallow for daring to have 'a hint of aesthetics'.
 9. Does anyone take a spare music stand just in case?
 10.
... a hint of aesthetics (because I'm really shallow).
Actually, a lack of aesthetics is shallow.
 11.
.. I think it is no surprise that people typecast mahogany as having a dark tone ...
I've done that even though I am a total tonewood denier.
 12.
That might even be a plectrum in my hand looking at my right hand? Terrible!
At least you decided to leave the capo at home.
 13.
I respect a man who can carry off the flat cap / 5 string combination.
Especially without the crutch of a music stand.
 14.
maybe he is quoting ebay final sale prices though?
Then he's a twat.
 15.
Thing is are they realistic though. I think this may be the best option as i do just want rid of this guy! Been a complete nightmare to work with.
If the valuations are anything close to realistic then take the money and get out fast before he changes his mind. But the figures make no sense. No one says 'two tops are worth £218 pounds', they would say £220, or even just £200.
 16. With music stands ......
 17. ... but where did Willie Dixon get it from?
 18. ... and before that ... http://youtu.be/pM8_HuQ0b34
 19.
that was the CCS version
... and the predecessor ... http://youtu.be/RRZMFhnPi28
 20.
Surely the ability to internalise music quickly and efficiently is a skill like any other, that requires practice to develope - aside from how people feel about using stands on stage, surely there is an argument that if you always rely on having a pad there as a crutch, that you never really put yourself in a situation where committing the music to memory is essential, and you actually defeat your own opportunity to develope that skillset as a result. I was lucky some years ago to work with a pro musician from Ghana who had earned his living from the age of 12 gigging on a daily basis, and his ability to learn material extremely quickly amazed me - he nailed ~45 numbers for the function band I was playing in at the time in 3 days, no crib sheets, no charts and no mistakes. On talking to him about it, he told me that much of the time when he was learning his trade in Ghana he was often expected to learn material from the radio and play it the same day, no luxury of cassette tapes or record players, so as a matter of necessity he had developed the necessary skills to keep his gigs.
So he was allowed the luxury of a radio but a music stand is a crutch. That's nonsense.
 21.
so you're a "real" bass player and you tune your lowest to C?
"Doremi" was a mistake. Obviously i must have meant "Milaresol".
 22.
I was thinking more like handing out ipads on hercules stands so the punters dont need to put their pint down to read them
If you put the lyrics on there too then everyone will be able to sing along.
 23.
I think we're getting a little tangled wth all that "professional" talk... Those who dislike stands on a pub gig (like myself) probably mean (at least I do) that stands and "rock image" don't really go together. That's all.
But some of us are trying hard to avoid a "rock image".
 24.
To all those using music stands with the same band on a regular basis, what is stopping you learning the songs?
I very rarely use a music stand because it's one extra thing to carry and I couldn't be bothered to do so. However, I'll happily use one if I find it to be advantageous enough or even necessary. The up-in-arms nature of the anti-brigade strikes me as ridiculous. If you don't want to use a music stand then don't. I don't use one .... almost always. If the whole band were hiding behind music stands and doing their utmost to avoid contact with the dancing drinking taking audience then that would be stupid but I don't think anyone imagines it like that except those with a phobia of music stands. If someone is not learning their parts then the music stand is not the problem.
