2. Blast. This looks like it is going to be a pain in the neck. Where would I get a replacement neck?
3. Hi. Thanks, this is really helpful. It looks unfinished to me. Here are a few piccys http://dl.dropbox.com/u/133297/DSC00577.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/133297/DSC00578.jpg http://dl.dropbox.com/u/133297/DSC00579.jpg
4. Thanks for the quick reply. I may have to resort to the iron technique. Unless there is a way to unscrew the thing from the bust end. It's not to deep in but very difficult to get a purchase on. The fingerboard is maple but unfinished so probably no need to sand. Unfortunately the head end is varnished into the headstock. How would I prevent cracking the varnish when the board comes off??
5. Hi, Just broken the truss rod on my OLP mm3. Been adjusting the relief carefully over the last few days and this morning it went bang. Have taken the neck off and the rod is snapped about half an inch from the body end (the end that it gets adjusted). It doesnt look that easy to get out. There is no access the other end. Can I do it myself or is this a luthier job? Gutted.
6. Hi. My mate has found what appears to be and old Selmer Thunderbird 50 Mkii lurking in the corner of a studio he has recently become responsible for sorting out. It's pretty tatty and doesn't turn on but he had the sense to put it to one side. A bit of research suggests it is worth a bit so I think he is planning to sell it to fund some improvements (the studio is part of a local community project). Was wondering how best to go about getting it to the right kind of person for the right price. Ta
7.
Yep - just use whatever they've got - I think I paid around a quid for mine, but check the wires are soldered properly I had a few where I had to resolder them and as they fell off when I took them out of the bag. It sounds best with a preamp (behringer ADI-21 works well for me) and the shorter the cable the better. I used one of these little buggers: http://maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=3202 I think I just went for biggest they had in stock at the time.
Ta.

9.
I built an upright one from a length of 2" x 2" hardwood from the local timber merchant. I used a cheapo piezo element from maplin as the pickup, a keyhole cover as the tailpiece and bits of chopstick for bridge saddle & nut.
Ta. Could you give me the link to the right piezo element thingy at Maplin?
10. Chris Thile for this for example IMHO.
11. I have one of these. Waited for ages for one to turn up and eventually got one from Germany. It's awesome.
12. The OLP pickup is fine, just replace the electronics. I swapped in an Artec in mine and it made a huge difference.
13. I used a 3630 for a while. Liked the sound but got confused by all the knobs. Always fancied a DBX 163x.
14.
Is that amp either battery-powered or light or cheap or any two of those three?
Here you go [post="0"][/post] http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=74648&hl=
15. Hi. Got an gospel album with some great solid bass playing on it. I think it might be by a session player called Freddie Thompson. All I can find out about him is a post on the Warwick forums and this reference. Was wondering if anyone know any more about him or have more examples of his playing. This is him playing on the album I have. I love the counterplay with the drummer during the break at the end.
16. I think the bass player from the Huckleberries uses a GK microbass and his sound is pretty good.
17.
I've had an Artec and they're good value for money for sure. The Audere was spare, so an install seemed like a good thing to do
Good job. It sounds great. Interesting that you decided to keep the battery under the pickguard. I am wondering whether to route out for a battery box.
18. You dont even have to do this much. I upgraded mine with a cheap Artec preamp and some Rotosound 77 flats, shielded it properly and it sounds awesome (IMHO).
19. Thanks all. Might take a look at the Yamaha.
20. Hi. Am looking for a small portable mixer to use in church for a music group. Needs to be pretty flexible (up to 12 inputs of various types), sophisticated enough to compress vocals, gate channels etc, easy enough to use by occasional users and robust enough to survive being stuffed chuck into cupboards etc when not in use. Budget probably up to three hundred quid . Any suggestions? Thanks
21. The funny bit in the middle of Rush's XXY. Makes me smile very time..
22. You sure you aren't just playing too loud? How about you get someone else to play your bass and go round and listen to see what is actually happening.
