2. And singers who are clearly not American singing with an American accent (or strange hybrids thereof).

    Thanks
Why thank you, though I'm rarely any help to anyone. I'll be in your neck of the woods in a couple of weeks time, I'll be no use to you then either - unless the sight of middle aged drunks amuses you.
Check out the Raven. They do great pies!

  5. Just wanted to say thanks for such a great forum. In the few months I have been around I have been really impressed with how quick and helpful Basschatters are. You are a great bunch.

    OLP MM3

Comparing it to a cheapy with P pickups. Played again this morning with the mids down and it sounded OK. Certainly cuts through. I guess I need to get used to it.

    OLP MM3

Hi. Just come back from playing my new MM3 at reasonable volumes thru my main rig. Noticed that it is very middly. Had to back of the mid range quite a bit to get a reasonable tone. Is that normal behavour or does mine need some attention?
  8.
Cool. It takes a bit of getting used to but is well worth it IMO.
9.
I play with "free strokes" (as opposed to "rest strokes", which you're describing above) using a floating thumb technique. I prefer it as it minimises string noise and lets you play faster IMO. If you want to stop hitting the string below you really need to look at how the whole finger is moving and modify the whole technique- keeping the same hand position and just trying to reduce follow through will not work IME.
Thanks. Having names for the techniques really helps. Just checked out youtube for floating thumb. Playing later today so will try it out.
  10. Hi, I have become aware recently that when I pluck a string with my fingers I follow through to the string below (above physically). This is particularly noticeable with the lower strings a it creates an audible thump. Been trying avoid the thump by damping or stopping the follow through. The latter is harder but more pleasing as it results in a clearer note. Was wondering what others do or if there are any tips to avoid the thump... Ta
  11. I always had a soft spot for Talk Talk. They looked crap but certainly delivered on the songwriting and playing front. The last two albums (essentially Mark Hollis and their producer/keyboard player noodling in the studio with session players) were almost permanently in my CD player during the early 90s. Check out the drummer in this video.
Re Avatar: Are they black olives on peppers - [Very tasty looking - you might be on to something there...] or is it just a play on the old cucumber sandwich (with spagetti-type beard dressing)? (Says he, somewhat shamefully but never-the-less opportunistically jumping on the "wrong-forum" band-wagon...)[/quote I drew on a photo of a cucumber and tuna sandwich... Time to change methinks.
  13.
my car has that strange sound, i went to mechanic but he said...OK OK; dont wanna be rude... wrong forum,yes....
Ooops...this has clearly effected me more than I thought....
  14. My Behringer BDI21 went all thin then fssst over the weekend and now doest work. No light, no sound, just sits there. I opened it up to see of there was anything obvious but all seemed OK. I think it's bricked. Very sad.
  15. I remember being rather disappointed when I found out that the Dandy Warhols managed without a bass player. Got me thinking...what other bands have done the same trick. The Doors White Stripes Any more of note?
  16.
found them i think!!! in the post
Arrived today but wrong size....
  17. Been hunting around trying to find out what pots mine has and found some geezer on eB@y selling complete kits. Here
  18.
You need to make sure the blend control has the same values as your existing Vol controls. Eg, if the existing vols are 250K, you need a 250K blend. If the values are not marked on the Vol pots, I would go with the push/pull solution, but again the value needs to be correct..
Does anyone know what the pots in my OLP are? Difficult to tell from looking.

  20. Hi. I have an old Ashdown Dual Compressor that works very well but clips rather too easily. Apparently it's a feature of the early models (which mine likely is) and Ashdown had a fix. I tried to contact Ashdown to find out what it was but got no reply. Does anyone remember this fix? Is there a fix? If so is it a diy job? Ta
  21.
i think the bart is solid...wait i have one in the next room..dooh its split shaft but as you can see the holding screws for a solid shaft knob do bite in you can have it if you pm your address cheers geof ps dont think i have any fixing nuts but can check
Hi Geof. I have worked out how to wire this in but unfortunately it seems the nut required for this pot is larger than the one it is replacing. Really dumb question but...any idea where I could get one from? Are they standard sizes?
  22.
I'm struggling to remember off the top of my head, but will post it up shortly. To abbreviate, it's slightly narrower than some basses (but probably not as narrow as others). Helpful eh?
I have one. Suit me as I have small hands. However, I believe you can fix it by putting on a wider bridge. There is plenty of space on the 'board.
