I keep getting my self lost with it all, I'm told I need the 1x15 to keep the bottom end strong but don't know which way to match it all up.
Who by? Decide which of the Markbass cabs you like the best then buy two of those. Are you open to other brands? Barefaced stuff usually gets recommended whenever weight is an option. Or if you like the GK cabs you have now then why not look at something like two GK 1x12s or 2x10s?

Limiter on, I keep the other two switches off. After that try using a fair amount of gain so it starts to get hairy then set the volume to match the situation. With a very hot output p bass I tended to have it around 12o clock gain.
any ideas what plugging both outputs to one can actually does to the amp?
In theory, nothing. It's electrically the same as having a thicker cable, so if anything your amp would have a minutely easier time of it.

You can see the simulated response of the speaker cabinet. And using that you can fine tune the dimensions, port sizes etc to try and get the natural voice of the cab close to what you want. You can basically mess around until the graph looks like what you want: flat or not, low end roll off point, midrange peaks and troughs etc etc. Last I looked there was a flash version of the software on their site, no download needed.

It's worth doing. Jacks work fine, speakons are so much better, safer and more secure.
-
-
I think so. I found this on the net, seems easier to follow.
-
Yeah that would work fine, just make sure that all of the +1 are touching each other, and the same for all of the -1 and have at it. Overdo this though and take your time, rather than skimp and rush. There's a fair amount of current going through your soldering handiwork.

Bass player wanted for new blues covers band - Newcastle
Jack replied to Rexel Matador's topic in Bassists Wanted
I just messaged you on Facebook about this. If you're a member here does this mean that you're the outgoing bassist? Or if they're a new band does that mean that you're playing guitar? -
Is the Kemper the Power-rack version? Like this: http://sxpro.co.uk/k...owerrack-remote
Hey molan. Sorry, I meant to withdraw the Kemper (actually, I did but maybe didn't save the edited post correctly) as I have decided to keep it. It's the unpowered version anyway. I initially wanted the powered one but 600W is a bit weedy these days and it's not supposed to run into 4R so I went for the other one. I had the QSC listed above and have since opted for active cabs.

Please do come to a show, I always like meeting basschatters! Just be kind and bear in mind that there is usually a severe inverse correlation between gear and talent...

Just as an aside, those are the specs for the AMP, not the amp IN the cab. Look at the powered 21" sub, same specs.

Smoothound, Microthumpinator, GEB-7, Pitchblack, etc etc
Jack replied to Jack's topic in Effects For Sale
Hello everyone, Thanks for your interest and patience! So last night I got no sleep at all because our little countryside retreat has developed somewhat of a rat problem. Part and parcel of living where we do but it meant a long night and then an extra long today of work followed by helping the exterminator pull up loads of our floorboards. I am really sorry for the delay in responding but I have now responded to all messages in the order in which they were sent (which killed me and sometimes the first offer wasn't the best! ). Several items are sole pending payment but I imagine that at least some of those who made an offer may yet drop out due to the time delay. Don't give up hope! On a serious note, thanks for your patience. -
Hi everybody! Continuing the great clearout, here is my pedal board (minus a few bits and bobs). All of the pedals below are in exceptional condition, pretty much 'as new' with the exception of a few tiny scratches and velcro on the bottom. Postage to the UK is included in the prices too. I think the prices are pretty fair, but please feel free to make an offer in a PM. As far as trades, I'm on the hunt for a Gallien-Krueger RBII head, a pedal board battery, a decent vocal mic, a Studiospares mono valve preamp, RED250 or DI Box/Preamp. SOLD Smoothound Wireless - £100 Great wireless unit championed by Basschat and other forums. Replaced my G30 and has been faultless. Only selling as I really would like a rack unit instead. SOLD PENDING Brightonion Micro Buffer - £15 I used this to buffer basses that I wanted through the board that weren't coming in via the wireless. Made a great way to go from wireless to a cable quickly as I could just pull the patch cable out of the input. Oh, sorry, you don't care what I used it for, what will you use it for? I specified the blue led for its positive effect on tone. Obviously. SOLD Joyo Orange Juice - £30 I've been through LOADS of bass overdrives (just check my previous for sale threads!) and stuck with this one. You'd be amazed at how good it is. SOLD Korg Pitchblack - £25 Makes your bass sound less rubbish. For £30. I mean, that's a bargain. Boss GEB-7 - £40 EQ pedal with 7 sliders in the bass sweetspots. Underrated but really useful. I used it to boost the level (and cut the sub bass) slightly when using fingers vs a pick. SOLD sfx Microthumpinator - £100 I'm trying to find the one person on BC who doesn't have one of these already...... Great hpf that cuts the mud and leaves all of the sound. Saves your speakers, the soundman and the audience from audible but distracting overpowering bass. Please excuse the bad photo with glare on the sfx, if anyone wants I can get a decent photo up.
Cheers Jack. Sounds very straightforward, thanks. Just need to get myself a decent IEM. One follow up query - I'm just a bit concerned on the number of monitor outs that a typical FOH will have and whether there will be spare for IEMs. But I suppose if he has used them all up for the monitors I'm not going to need an IEM anyway as I should be able to hear myself through one of the monitors, right?!
If you're concerned then it may be worth investing in an xlr splitter, that way you could 'interupt' a monitor mix that's on its way to a wedge somewhere. Not ideal, but you'd be able to hear what's going on.
-
You just take an IEM feed from the desk as you would anyway. As far as the soundman is concerned its just like any other monitor feed.

Good value active PA cabs - recommendations
Jack replied to Steve Browning's topic in Accessories and Misc
We have a system with those Alto tops and some of the matching subs, really really nice system. The subs take a beating but as they're in duratex it's easy enough to touch up I suppose. Sounds like you're looking at just the tops, so +1 for the Altos. -
If you can use an amp for one gig a year, you can use it for 100 gigs a year.
Oooh, disagree. Well actually you're right you could. There are enough people out there with things like old Hiwatts and Aguilar DB751s that only come out for the 'big gigs' because it's too much hassle to take them to The Dog and Duck. There's a local guy around here who's Fafner and 2 410s never get a look in sine he got the Reidmar and 112s.
-
The thing is though, they were right. I mean, you couldn't argue with that claim.
-
I believe that it was 'sufficient'. Too crass to just specify a number.
-
I think that beyond a certain (price) point pretty much any amp would stand up to regular gigging. I'd have a slight preference for solid state over tubes if I wanted absolute reliability but plenty of people were using and abusing tube amps on tours years before solid state was popular.* If you like Ashdown then there are plenty of lightweight options from that brand. Something like the Rootmaster head (or some of the older class d heads) with a pair of 1x12" cabinets would likely do a lot of shows for a lot of people but without knowing about your situation it will be hard to recommend stuff. How loud do you need to be? How many guitarists do you have and what amps do they use? Are you playing with Keith Moon or Buddy Rich? Do you always have PA support? * As an aside, one of my other hobbies is watches and that comes up a lot there too. If you want reliable, you simply HAVE to have quartz. Despite the fact that a hand winder was on Edmund Hillary's wrist when he went up Everest. But yeah, if you want a reliable amp you'll HAVE to go solid state. :-P
