Bass lines that really flick yer switch!
Bernmeister replied to bottomfeed's topic in General Discussion
Just been listening to The Jamiroquai's The return of the space cowboy album I'm digging the bassline on the track Manifest Destiny. I also love the bassline from the track supermodel sandwich with cheese by terence trent d'arby from the album Vibrator. -
Help Me, I want to buy a bass! (And Now I have)
Bernmeister replied to Mister_E's topic in Bass Guitars
don't we all love a good ending all together now ahhhh !!!!! -
I'm the lucky owner of the super redhead, i'm lucky enough to have the option of using mine with a 2 x 10 or an 1 x 15 extension cab & i can coax any sound i wish from it either for rock, pop, blues( jazz if i could play it) & its especially good on funk. I haven't used the Black beauty combo myself, but i'd say it has a slightly fuller / warmer sounding bottom end than the super redhead although i'm not sure what eq'ing options that is has available to it. Yes it is a weighty combo, but it'll do the job for me. Oh a quick add on which my fellow swr user JpJ forgot to mention, the redhead is rated at 240 watts @ 4 ohm & the super redhead is rated at 350 watts @ 4ohm.

He even had a cable in his stock ready for postage, how could i refuse his incredible attention to detail & knowledge, i just had to buy one of his big fat speaker cables.... job done. You guessed it arrived just when he said it would & without any fuss. Cheers Dave I'll have to recommend you get an obe - "order of the bass empire"
-

Ooh superb piece of equipment there Keith. Unfortunately travelling plans & finances rules me out of this for the time being, i'm sure by the time i get myself in order this will be long gone. I must say though that Keith is a top top man & is a very genuine, he always keeps his gear in top condition, looking at the piccys it looks as new. Anyway enough of the waffle i'm nearly talking myself into buying it !! Best of luck with the sale Keith.

What Have You Been Listening To? And Whos The Bassist?
Bernmeister replied to Brandonh's topic in General Discussion
Dug out one of the old Terence Trent D'arby cd's today the Vibrator album & was very impressed with the bass playing by a chap named Kevin Wyatt. There's some cracking grooves, very tasteful playing & bass funk to the max. Where is he now ? -
Hi all, A special thanks must go to Nick for hosting the Birminghm Bass Bash what a fantastic location ( wait till you see the piccys ). Also you must a have a well done for remembering everyones names & being such a good host. Must apologise to everyone who attended who didn't get chance to have an in depth chat with. There was such a good variety of equipment to look at & play, plus i arrived a bit late too !!! Was good to put faces to names. Definately looking forward to the next planned Birmingham bass bash. Once again Cheers Nick. Will email you some pictures that i took later on this evening or early tomorrow

-
This is what i'm thinking too, i did post a note on hear asking who was going & what gear they planned on taking. But so far there has been very little response !!!!
-
Hi Gazm, that does clear a few things up, but i'm sure i'll have a few silly questions to ask you at the bass bash
-
Great quote there from the cracking film "Usual Suspects".
-
Hi there Gazm hope that you're still coming to the Birmingham bass bash would love to hear how your rig sounds like. Could do with some tips on wiring my rig up.
-
Sorry ! But would definately say, its suggestion 1 for me. Its not as if the aggie 112's are a big & heavy cab are they.
-
Just in case you thought you had too much bass gear
Bernmeister replied to Alemboid's topic in General Discussion
Maybe she plays bass too or is a musician of some sort ! -
Looks like i will be able to make the Birmingham Bass Bash after all. It would be good to have a heads up to see who's going & what gear is being taken down to Nicks place. I'm not sure what to take it could be either my swr super redhead & an extension swr 2x10 cab or my a pair of swr goliath junior 2x10's & my racked swr sm400s head. Basswise it'll be one of my customised squier p-basses with pj loaded emg pickups & emg loaded btc control preamp circuitry.

On the clip of footage kindly linked for us by mr nottswarwick his kingbass does sound quite thin, although i have no prior knowledge of what kingbasses generally sound like. Although i have heard that Mr King himself does use really light guaged strings so i can only put it down to that. I was lucky enough to see Level 42 live when they were at their peak at the Birmingham Odeon many years back, when he was using his jd basses & he did have a fuller sound back then. Although i enjoy his slap playing, i was really into his finger playing even more & he had a really fat groovy beefy sound when he did that which always was a joy for me to hear.

Bass for sale... I thought I knew my eBay
Bernmeister replied to warwickhunt's topic in General Discussion
Tis a difficult one to judge, if that was me i would probably be putting my bid on in the last 15mins or so to test what reaction i would get from other bidders before i would start doing that. But we all have our tried & tested formulas of winning auctions. I know i wouldn't be reaching for the reserve price so early on in the auction though even if i really wanted to win it. But like others have said it could be a friend of his pushing the bidding along to get it upto market value which is what it is nearly at now. Tough call really !! -
Slightly off track, but i agree with Gizmo, the Charlie Dominic project / album that he mentioned. That album is definately worth looking out for its awesome. Anyway as d-basser mentioned i also heard systematic chaos approx a month ago, it still hasn't grown on me yet either, but as everyone has mentioned there's definately a heavier roadrunner records vibe to it. Its a very non commercial dream theater album, but i read that this was the intention as its their anti conglomerate big record label give me a radio friendly single album which their prevoius label kept asking for. So they wanted to get back to their roots so to speak on this album. I've also heard the new Planet X album, its very good with some great guitar playing by Alan Holdsworth & the gang, but it certainly does miss the Tony Macalpine chemistry on this one imho.
