1. The Thumper won't be passive but going through one of Alan's (ACG) new pre amps with a low pass filter and a treble boost. I think it may be the 1st of it's type i.e. P bass single pickup. So a bit of an experiment really. We'll see how it goes.
2. You're a fortunate guy to have such a lovely example of Robbie's work. Very distintive!
3. That's a very nice looking P you have there Alan. A Thumper arrived for me today for my new 'project'. Peter
4. I've got a BB1500A so yes the pups should have covers. I'll help with what I can. The manual may be online I'll check. Don't think it is but I'm sure I have one.
5. How'd it go in Bootleggers Alan? I was knackered and gave it a miss.

7. Brilliant I sold mine ages ago and wish that I hadn't
8. With only two coats of 50% thinned tung oil there's some remarkable progress and a little bit of sheen. I did do two applications of thinned grainfiller first. Truoil'ing the neck is going well too although there's a long way to go till it's all done.
9. I'd say more than another £100 definately. Perhaps even over the £1k ? The recent price rise, the colour and the apparent condition are all going for it. There's a regular Ric seller on eBay who would be asking at least £1150 for this. Peter
10. Hiya Ben I notice that the seller has limited feedback dating to 2005. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing but I'd ask him if Cash on collection was a possibility, just to put your mind at ease. The Ric is great in that colour isn't it Some more pictures would be good, and you could ask for them. Also does it come with a Ric case and is the 'case candy' all there too? He doesn't say whether or not the bass has the Vintage Tone Control fitted. Probably not I suspect. If you like the Chris Squire sound I'd strongly recommend retro fitting it. It put a capacitor across the bridge pickup pot and gives a more vintage tone at the expense of some output level. It's switchable therefore reversable. I expect the price will rise considerably. Have you tried a Ric before? Good luck
11. Update your progress Mark. It's a fun thing to do, very satisfying when it (hopefully) looks and sounds awesome
12. The quality and fit of Warmoth parts is near legendary it seems. I'm more than pleased. Withone coat of thinned grain filler on the body the colour is blooming. Truoil is doing the same for the neck. Peter
13. I'm thinking of 3 coats of pure tung oil thinned with turpentine followed by about 10 coats at full strength I'm using Truoil on the neck and a dozen coats are the minimum I've set myself to do. I've not got the hardware yet so I'm in no great hurry.
14.
Somebody gonna tell us off for not talking bass!!
Possibly, but we'll just pretend we didn't hear 'em
15. My 54P body in Korina and birdseye maple neck arrived today, 1 day late after 3 crossings of the Atlantic. £69 charges so not too bad. Now to find the tung oil
16. I've got an open boat too now and I'm looking forward to some Scottish trips. The Dee is an idea at the moment.
17. Nice Avatar Gloria, I've a few shots of the bow of a sea kayak like that Do you think you'll regret p/exing the BC?
18.
Lady Penelope?....Sorry i'll get my coat!
No don't, that was good!
19. If you look carefully over the fence you can see me trying to hide from view waiting for you to leave this thing of great beauty unattended for a minute. Very nice indeed
20. Well my Warmoth bits arrived at East Mids airport yesterday, and were promptly flown back to the States!!! They are now coming over again, well that's what UPS assure me.
21. Just to add that my Multicomp is a new one so I don't think its a related issue. Basically if I leave it on overnight it results in a flat battery in the morning
22. Mine ate batteries too so I resorted the the adapter Peter
23. Excellent bit of explanation BigRedX. This needs to be preserved somewhere
24. Well the thing is I didn't rest my thumb on the cover anyway. I used the front pickguard for the E string and then go down the strings with my thumb. That position was tonally too near the neck. I'm now playing where the cover was and using the new perspex cover to reat the thumb on. The tone is definately better to me there. I'm not removing the cover from either my Chris Squire or my C64S though although this bass is crying out for flatwounds, they sound amazing on the C64S.
25. I've got home today and my Ric 'Pickguardian' pickup cover has arrived so I've spent a while fitted it and the Hipshot bridge as well. I bought the bridge recently from Jon (Bassasin) and have been waiting for the cover to turn up from the States for a while. The bridge is a very solid piece of chromed brass weighing in at 630g as opposed to the Ric bridge at 313g! I can actually adjust the intonation now The removal of the bridge pickup cover does obviously give greater access but at the expense of a great big hole around the pickup. The Pickguardian sorts it nicely. All completely reversable too. So all set up and playing very well here she is:
