1. Well not peculiar but certainly different. I finished off the Warmoth P bass DIY project this morning and I'm more than pleased with the result. 54 Body in Tung oiled Corina with a birdseye maple jazz neck finished with Truoil. The pickup is a Wizard Thumper, tuners Hipshot Ultralites with a D-Tuner and the bridge is a Gotoh. The different bit is the 1st single pickup ACG filter pre-amp. There's volume, low and high filter stacks. The filter pre works very well indeed and I will bring the bass along to the NW bash so folk can try it out. The 2nd P is my modified Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub with Villex pickup and tone booster. So that's Volume, high tone, mid tone and the 3 boost positions. Different too but a great performer.
best of all the on-line retailers in my experience. certainly way better than Thoman
'Thomann' Every time I read unqualified and broad brush statements like this I wince. I've had a great many dealings with Thomann and they have all been exemplary, basically couldn't have possibly been better. This includes warranty returns of gear. It's not just my good fortune I'm sure. I know all companies get it wrong sometimes but my experience and that of many others dispels your statement. I've had one dealing with GAK, ordered something online and it wasn't in stock. I'm sure they're great most of the time. The impact of sweeping statements on business in a forum such as this can be immense especially for the smaller businesses so I'd ask that we consider our damning statement before blasting them into the internet bass community. No I don't work for Thomann. Peter
3. I'll try and remember to bring me soldering stuff And a hat
4. Hehe, I did the same thing about a month ago at my local 'electric' night. I've been back twice now, learnt a lot and got bits wrong every time. Did 'Crossroads' this week, great fun.
5. It's a shame you're not closer Nick. My Bob Glaub with Villex pickups and the Villex tone booster seems to me to possess all the P grit with a real zing when the treble is cranked up. It may do the trick. Yeah I know it's not a Fender etc Villex pickups may help your P. All the best with you're quest. Talking of significant hearing loss I'd urge all you bikers to wear earplugs at all times. I was a keen motorcyclist for over 35 yrs and if you're not aware of the damage the airstream noise causes to the little hairs in your ears then you should be. High tone deafness abounds in those who rode before the problem was highlighted Nowadays there's no excuse. Peter
6. From what I know it's the norm to use all the letters alphabetically. Hence E sharp and not F.
7. An update on my Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub with both Villex pickup and the tone booster. Being a 'bedroom' (lounge actually) player I've been stretching myself by getting out to my local jam night and having a go. I took the BG along tonight and the resident bass player gave it a go with 'Master Blaster'. The Bob Glaub was totally awesome, amazing tone. It cut right through the mix and was both strong and very articulate. It had real P bass 'balls' and lots of zing too. Steve, the resident bassist was extremely impressed. The fact that the bass was strung with flats (Ernie Balls) was even more amazing. So to Tigran and Villex, thank you for making some quite incredible passive bass gear.
8. Thomann sell the grub screws. Mentioning springs makes me think you mean the intonation screws and Thomann will probably sell those too I suspect.
9. I have a Roland cube 30 and a Laney 65W and the cube is by far the best. Simple effects, input for MP3, compressor, small light and portable. Roland do make some nice gear.
10. That's one very sweet Ray, all the best with the sale.
11. Oh my, and it's 2EQ too. I don't suppose you're interested in trades? 2007 Deluxe MIA Jazz?
12. I have high tone deafness which would seem to be the opposite. I'd say in ear monitors would be the way to go. There's obviously nothing wrong with your tone Nick so why change it, just make it so you can hear it.
13. This question has been asked soooooooo many times Try the Search function
14. I've got one and it's brilliant Get it
15. I'm assuming from my brief sojourn in Gatesheed many moons ago that's South then
16.
Hofner violin bass or Jamerson's P-bass
Cough! You forgot the Ric!
17. I'd like to try the Omni 12, it might give me the incentive to finish mine
18. Nice solid P bass tone there. Thanks for the warning, wasn't too bad, no Lampton Worm!
19. It may be that yout tone pot and capacitor don't suit the Thumper (I'm assuming it's a standard passive here). If the pot is a 500k then a 250k may help, also a larger value capacitor i.e. 0.047 microfarad as opposed to 0.022. This may tone it down a bit. Peter
20. Here's a couple of piccies with the neck attached. Just awaiting the tuners and pre-amp and it'll be flying Peter
21. Visit the Warmoth.com website and get a P body and a J neck: Nearly finished. Wizard Thumper and awaiting an ACG filter based pre-amp
22. The fretless gets my vote being a 'natural' sorta guy. Nice!
23. That's really interesting. I've sorta coming to a conclusion that a good passive J or P is always better than a good active one. Something organic maybe, less is more or whatever? Peter
24. I have a Sterling and it's a great bass, I sold it and then it returned and I'm made up by that. Light, small and sooo playable. With a Nordstrand Pickup I'd say it's got the balls of a Ray too!
