Hehe, I did the same thing about a month ago at my local 'electric' night. I've been back twice now, learnt a lot and got bits wrong every time. Did 'Crossroads' this week, great fun.

It's a shame you're not closer Nick. My Bob Glaub with Villex pickups and the Villex tone booster seems to me to possess all the P grit with a real zing when the treble is cranked up. It may do the trick. Yeah I know it's not a Fender etc Villex pickups may help your P. All the best with you're quest. Talking of significant hearing loss I'd urge all you bikers to wear earplugs at all times. I was a keen motorcyclist for over 35 yrs and if you're not aware of the damage the airstream noise causes to the little hairs in your ears then you should be. High tone deafness abounds in those who rode before the problem was highlighted Nowadays there's no excuse. Peter

From what I know it's the norm to use all the letters alphabetically. Hence E sharp and not F.

An update on my Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub with both Villex pickup and the tone booster. Being a 'bedroom' (lounge actually) player I've been stretching myself by getting out to my local jam night and having a go. I took the BG along tonight and the resident bass player gave it a go with 'Master Blaster'. The Bob Glaub was totally awesome, amazing tone. It cut right through the mix and was both strong and very articulate. It had real P bass 'balls' and lots of zing too. Steve, the resident bassist was extremely impressed. The fact that the bass was strung with flats (Ernie Balls) was even more amazing. So to Tigran and Villex, thank you for making some quite incredible passive bass gear.

Thomann sell the grub screws. Mentioning springs makes me think you mean the intonation screws and Thomann will probably sell those too I suspect.

I have a Roland cube 30 and a Laney 65W and the cube is by far the best. Simple effects, input for MP3, compressor, small light and portable. Roland do make some nice gear.

I have high tone deafness which would seem to be the opposite. I'd say in ear monitors would be the way to go. There's obviously nothing wrong with your tone Nick so why change it, just make it so you can hear it.

It may be that yout tone pot and capacitor don't suit the Thumper (I'm assuming it's a standard passive here). If the pot is a 500k then a 250k may help, also a larger value capacitor i.e. 0.047 microfarad as opposed to 0.022. This may tone it down a bit. Peter

That's really interesting. I've sorta coming to a conclusion that a good passive J or P is always better than a good active one. Something organic maybe, less is more or whatever? Peter

I have a Sterling and it's a great bass, I sold it and then it returned and I'm made up by that. Light, small and sooo playable. With a Nordstrand Pickup I'd say it's got the balls of a Ray too!
