I did a gig a few weeks ago where it sounded like someone had turned the volume down for a couple of bars, and then it came back again - didn't feel faint or anything but it did strike me as a little odd
You're not the only on thats had this feeling. I felt like I wasn't quite there, but then things came back to normal. I had kept playing though, so all was well
2.
I resent that - I'm a failed pianist.
I think I might be a failed bassist.
3.
Its a good price, not really up on ashdown stuff to know if there's much differance between the mag stuff and the abm heads ?
ABM has a valve pre in it - MAG is solid state all round. Get the abm500 it's lovely. I've got a klystron500. Love the sound and has all the built in effects that I need. That said, with my recurring hernia problem , I do wonder whether I should have got a nice lightweight LMII - which sounds great too - but very clean!
4. These are great. I've got a regular fast track - otherwise I'd have one. Free bump!
5. I am interested in this, but a question first... What is this software like for writing (sheet) music. The apple website says that v9 does it, but not sure about v8. If it does, I was wondering how it compared with sibelius?
6. A couple of years ago my mate asked me if I wanted to see some woman that I'd never heard of singing at Nottingham Rock City. Turns out said woman was 'Amy Winehouse'. She was off her face, but the backing band were excellent. A big plus was the support act 'Mr Hudson and the Library'. They were fantastic. Not so sure about the new stuff for Mr Hudson, but that was a mighty fine gig.
7.
I still can't believe the bloody twins got through! I thought that Lucie was one of the best in it. Not to mention she wasn't bad on the eye!!
+1
8.
Well the only time my recording set up has been down was 2 weeks ago when the PSU blew. I was absolutely sh*tting myself as I hadn't backed up in a couple of days and I literally saw a flash and some smoke coming out of my PC. Luckily it was just the PSU and I fixed it with £20 and 20 minutes. Would it have been that simple with a mac? Or would their magical indestructable PSUs never blow?
Easy to fix on a mac pro or powermac, but very expensive. Pain in the arse to fix on an imac! Mine is external so just a straight swap - but still expensive! I had that happen on a PC at work - flash came out of the back of the case - not good.
9. 15 years of playing bass and here is my list dean p/j passive bass, red, never knew the model name. This one lasted for 13 years and I gave it away when I got the rbx yamaha rbx374, red, active. Current bass - does the job and a big full stop at the end!
10. In the Mac v.s PC argument. I have to say +1 to a mac. In a word 'Reliability'. I am head of ICT at a secondary school and we use a mixture of mac and PC's on or network. I use both every day. We have a recording studio running pro tools on a G4 powermac quite nicely at work - I believe that some of the effects are run outboard to save on processor time. Having spent plenty of time on both, my choice has to be a mac for at home. For recording at home, I use a mac mini (2ghz core 2, 4gig ram, 750gig external drive) which does the job nicely. I run an m-audio fast track audio interface (although I wish I had spent more and got one with 4 or 8 inputs. I use garageband as it came with the mac, but the plan is to upgrade to logic at some point. I know you can do the same on a PC, but it comes down to using a system that I can trust won't fail at a crucial time.
11.
Though I did read somewhere that she had to be told that bass strings need changing!
You have to change the strings?
12. The all new Fender 'Matt Freeman' Road Worn 70's Precision Bass Guitar. Based on Matt's original 1977 Precision as used in operation ivy and later with his band rancid. This bass is white with a black pickguard. Rosewood neck, varnish sanded off for super fast scales and arpeggios. This bass will make you feel like you've been giging with it for years!
13. I'd got it figured. I knew I wanted a jazz. I knew I couldn't afford an America standard. I was going to buy a Squire Classic Vibe jazz..... ....BUT.... I went into a music store in lincoln yesterday and played a Fender America Standard Precision. It was lovely. Now I'm all confused. I want a Precision and a Jazz! and I tried the Squire CV Precision and it just didn't match up to the Fender. Back to square one.
14.
Hehe, nice one. You are, err... joking aren't you?
I could pretend that I just made a joke, but in reality I'd never heard of him. I have now done some reading thanks to wikipedia and am feeling extremely ignorant. He's an impressive chap. I knew the songs but never knew who the bassplayer was. Anyway I'll just crawl back beneath my rock for a few more years.
15.
I'm looking at buying a 3u or 4u rack case and am after a bit of advice; what are the best rack cases, and what are the best value for money rack cases? Ideally I'm after something lightweight and cheap...
Buy a second hand SKB roto-moulded (plastic) case. They are lightweight and v. strong. You should be able to pick up a case for £30-40.
16.
See if you can learn this, one day I will (hopefully)
Good call. What a song.... and Fat Mike is a great under-rated bass player
17. Has anyone else seen this ... Squier James Johnston Signature Jazz From what I understand it's a classic vibe, but in a different colour. Anyway - has anyone played one? Are they out yet? They cost more than a classic vibe, is there any point? Opinions please. [and do I really want a bass with a biffy clyro headstock - I've no idea is he's actually a good bassist ]
18. Horses for courses. It totally depends on the bass/amp combination... Old setup was passive P/J Dean Bass into Trace stack. Dialled the bass full volume ran the 2 pickups on full and adjusted the tone as needed. On the amp it was flat EQ + Mid shift on. Current setup is Yamaha RBX Active 3 Band EQ into Ashdown Stack. Yamaha runs flat EQ on 3/4 volume (any more and it starts to sound dodgy). Amp EQ is disable, but I use the 'Make it sound like an ashdown' button, compressor at 10 o'clock. and then turn the drive (10 o'clock) on as needed. Next will be a jazz bass. I tend to dial in the neck pickup and then add a bit of bridge to fill out the sound - well in the music shop when I'm messing around
19. For me, I'm going through a "must buy Jazz bass" phase. Not sure if it will last or if I will like it, but I've been looking at the Squire Classic Vibe. BUT I happened to call in to a shop in lincoln that had an MIA S1 in sunburst with Tort scratchplate (I'm guessing an American Standard?) WOW it played beautifully. Also like the look of the new Squier James Johnston singaure model. I think it's meant to be the same spec as the classic vibe but in lake placid blue.
20. I'm sure there was a wanted post for someone wanting a case for 2 basses recently. [Or am I going mental]
21. I don't use in ears myself for bass, but we have recently started using in ears for our drummer. We play an electronic kit and it goes Drumkit --> DI out 1 --> Desk DI out 2 --> Headphone Amp and Desk Aux -> Headphone Amp The headphone amp has 2 channels (cheapo behringer one - but does the job) so he can mix himself into the aux mix coming from the desk. He likes this as generally he want to be louder in-ear than the rest of us want to hear However, I have recently been advised that feedback could be a big problem if it goes into the in-ear mix (deafen the guy!), os I am now looking at getting a compressor/limiter for the aux line to avoid this problem. It will then go: Drumkit --> DI out 1 --> Desk DI out 2 --> Headphone Amp and Desk Aux -> Compressor/Limiter -->Headphone Amp This is a wired mix, not wireless. Hope it is of some help.
22. I am a christian and this sound as dodgy as anything. I agree with the earlier comments. Charities don't give away £1000 that easily. No offence, but if it's a promotional thing I can think of better ways to use £1000 for promotional material. Sounds like a scam to me. Avoid........
23. More info on the 2 behringer rack units please. I'm interested in both.
