3.
Anyone remember Oysterhead? Maybe we shouldn't yet.
I quite like them...
 4.
That bass line was written by Martin Lavender
I preferred him in Dad's Army...
 5. Don't think the Evox 12 would have the clout for a 700 capacity hall The nearest column jobby that I think would fit the bill is this one: https://www.djkit.com/fbt-audio/fbt-vertus-cla-406a-118sa-system.html?gclid=COenn9Lgq9QCFQK37QodymMAtA This would produce a max SPL of 139dB@1m, so that's 133dB at 2m, 127 at 4m, 121 at 8, 115 at 16m, assuming a spherical dispersion - so being a pseudo-line array it'd produce a little bit more than that. But it's >£5.5k!
 6. I listened to an HK Elements system which was pretty good soundwise - ran rings round the Alto system next to it but was also double the price - £5k just for the PA, plus mixer/mics/stands etc. And it wouldn't be able to compete on SPL with the JBL system - at full chat that would produce around 115 dB at the back of the hall!
 7.
Maybe but do you remember the metalwork shop with Mr Bruce.
I do! I made a hacksaw in his class that worked well enough for my dad to nick it...
 8.
Come again?
Note to self: Must read before posting! I meant sound absorbing thingummies dangling from the ceiling! I've left the committee to it for the moment... They seem to think that monitors aren't necessary (!), but I did convince them of the need for mics... The problem is they've spent more than £10k on a ridiculous electric screen that can divide the hall, but no-one is allowed to use it in case it gets broken. You couldn't make it up!
 9.
Just two DXR10s?
There were 2 subs as well..
 10.
Line arrays shouldn't be all that directional, that's the big point about them, surely? The ones in the link ^ say 120 degrees horizontal dispersion...
I was interested in the vertical dispersion - that would hopefully reduce reflections off the hard wooden ceiling... However, it might be possible to convince them to utilise the local "man shed" for retired chaps to make some dangle absorbing devices. As for Mr. Hobbit's comment about committees - I know... I've been on the receiving end of grief from some before; I once booked Wilko Johnson to play at a local hall (different from this one!). Someone from the comm decided it was a good idea to chain shut the cupboards in the kitchen so those nasty rock'n'roll types didn't damage the crockery and attack folks with the cutlery! I've also discovered that the committee has decided £3500plus VAT should be more than enough, as someone's mate specced a Yamaha DXR10 system at that price; I've pointed out that it would run out of steam very quickly in the main hall...
 11. Thanks for that! I'm actually leaning more toward a pair of JBL prx425s with 2x 15" subs, plus 3 Behringer iNuke6000 amps (that's a potential 2x9kW rms!), with Behringer wireless mixer... Just got to convince the committee they need to spend just over £5k!
 12.
Gets my vote; his best work yet. Still not enough cowbell, however.
Bleedin' lolzers! However, it was actually captured for posteriorty... Enjoy! And well done Mr Frog!
 13.
Have I missed something here? What's mr. smalls done?
I expressed this month's entry through the medium of dance... Though luckily, no one was there to witness this abberation!
 14. Id play it more like this...
 15. Just wondering if anyone's had experience of column/sub all-in-one PAs like this one? http://www.djkit.com/ld-systems/ld-systems-maui-44.html?gclid=CPSi9aHPmdQCFUg6GwodwKELag I'm looking into options for our local community centre which will be a one-PA-fits-all solution that can be moved easily - the hall is max size 700 capacity and that can be split into 150 capacity sections for smaller events. It has to work equally well for metal and folk, and the directionality of these sort-of line arrays would definitely be a Good Thing as the cieling is very high, and as a result the room is quite echoey...
 16. Likey!
 17.
Think how you would feel if it was happening next door to you.
Many years ago our band lived together in a housing co-op house on a lovely square in Pimlico - the whole side of the square, which was large enough to have St Paul's School cricket pitch in the middle, was occupied by co-op folks, so it was a mixture of crusties and punks and ne'er do wells... We were looked down on by the folks who actually owned houses there, despite the fact that we were always friendly, left no mess and were very considerate and were at least 100m from them... So when we finally got our notice to leave (as is the case with co-ops!) we decided to have a rather large party complete with our band, house DJ and a 5kW PA - we invited all the neighbours, especially the snotty ones, but none came. But at about 2am 2 police vans did turn up, and were very keen for us to turn it down. But I'll never forget the look on the police inspector's face as, while telling us to stop the racket, our roadie's large dog gently brushed through the copper's legs without him noticing what it was. All he would have felt was the fluffer's touch down there - he very quickly left. We did then turn down the music, having had a thoroughly lovely time; in fact Jimbob from Carter USM even broke his arm falling down the stairs. And we didn't feel bad about the neighbours who'd only acknowledged our presence by ignoring and complaining about us to the police...
 18. Back in the late 80s we played a house party and it was reviewed in the NME!
 19. I've never been sacked by a band (yet!)... But I was sacked by Chester Zoo in 1981 for having a goth mohican.
 20. And more excellent sax, again with Jamaaladeen Tacuma on bass, Calvin Weston on drums and Marc Ribot on crazed guitar:
 21. Sax?
 22.
Frog and Parrot?
Yup!
 23.
Wow! Brilliant! Also, danceable drum pattern and excellent funky bass with a discernable root. Them's the ingredients for fonk, right there... When are you next gigging?
Cheers! We've just turned down Glastonbury (!) due to not liking camping among 250000 people... We only gig when we really want to! And no other gigs planned at present - not easy with band members living in Shropshire, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Ireland and South of France. There is a Dredd and the Badass Weeds Facebook page - we've been going for nearly 35 years! And my new band, 16 Choke Start (funk metal, hopefully including a rapper and turntables!) will be playing pubs in the South Shrops/Powys/Herefordshire area. No covers either, apart from a few by The Wurzels
