1. A few more details, it's a biggish 3/4, flatback, E flat stop, ply construction, and built like a tank. It's loud and projects well, and having used it with a number of PUPs and mics it amplifies very well without significant feedback issues. It will need to be collected from me in or near Aber. At the price it's worth the journey.
2. It's with a heavy heart that I sell this old thing. Uglier than the Leeds United team of the early 70's and about as subtle, it has does however posses a number of charms, not least of which is that for bluegrass and similar I'd guess it's pretty much unbeatable. It was the DB on which I started, and one that several people have fallen in love with for reasons I certainly can't explain (it is in fact known as 'The Beast' among my friends). It had a setup last year and had an adjustable bridge fitted. We're moving back down to the south east and two DBs will be a luxury in terms of space that I simply can't afford so it has to go soonish. I'll stick some decent strings on for you also. C
3. As new in Tech 21 tin case. Details at http://www.tech21nyc...terseries.html. Redundant since buying a V4-B C
4. Amazing cab at what it does, it just that what it does isn't really my thing. Whilst I'd love to keep it as an option, an impending move back to the south east means that I'm going to have to downsize substantially, so my 1x15 is staying and this isn't. The sound is classic, the weight not so, it is quite literally a one handed lift which is more than can be said for the 100w head I match it with. It has had, literally, two hours play time. The wait list for these is about 3 months and the new price about £250 more than I'm asking. 5.
More a case of practicality perhaps? Having neatly packed your amp in bubble wrap and found a nice box to fit you then realise you have this odd shaped lumpy thing to include as well.
That has happened to me more than once, silly perhaps but there it is
6. I'm pretty confident that those babies are about to become THE big vintage bass, and that is a splendid example in every possible way. Good luck with the sale David, if it was FL it would have been at Beedster Towers one day after you'd listed it
7. Any idea how it handles acoustic guitar Clarky?
8.
... there is a tendency for certain people to try to become almost 'associated' or 'friendly' with certain manufacturers..
And from a guy with 'Musicman' in his username
9.
I'm just impressed that someone on this site has got an orangerie and a library.
Ha ha, + 1 to that, altjough I have to admit that I di find the acoustic in my wine cellar a little lively also
10.
I couldn't get him to sell it back to me, or trade it for the black one. It seems the colour IS important
There's a title for this thread
11.
We're all as bad as each other Chris. I am not a fan of black basses (the other fretless TF option). Although if I swapped the scratchplate to tort... Yes, yours is lovely indeed, but I fancy the PJ setup (Wateroftyne's video sold it to me!)
Indeed, IIRC the TF comes in white also? Re PJ, I used an East P-Retro in my old 70's fretted Precision and got tone very close to a J-PUP without having to mod anything. It's an option?
12.
I am in urgent need of one of these basses in sunburst finish. Does anyone know of any out there in retail land? I already have a post in "Items Wanted", but that was for a straight purchase/trade.
Ha ha, how can one be in urgent need of a bass in a certain finish? This sounds like the voice of GAS Gareth (it speaks to me all to often, and strangely, sounds a lot like Clarky) All the best though C PS my '78 FL is sunburst and plays and sounds like a dream...........
13.
you are incorrigible Beedster
Ha ha, it would take a very good legal firm to deny it
14. That's a serious bargain
15. Alex was 100% professional and communicative when I bought my '69er. It wasn't the quickest turnaround I've had on a cab order, but then I don't expect McDonalds-esque speed when I'm ordering at a Michelin restaurant. I also don't expect a craftsman to be on email all day, I expect him to be crafting. I've had far worse problems than that described by the OP with far better known amp and cab manufacturers.
16. I tend not to want to take the pin in and out each time I play as I'm sure that the thread is one of the weak links on the bass so either lie it on it's side or stand it up on the pin. Just worried that someone was going to come along and say "noooooooooo"
17. Can I assume that it's generally not recommended to keep the instrument on its endpin?
18. I'd really like this bit would need it posted. Ironically i recently gave away a hard case that would probably have done the job! Do you have a strong enough box and packaging for the task Stevie? Chris
19. Damn, thought you were welling one Dave
20.
IME the intonation problem with rounds occurs because the contact with the frets wears part of the windings which means that the unit mass of the string is no longer equal along it's whole length. I would have thought the same would happen to flats.
Fair point, I've noticed some loss of intonation on the La Bella E at the 8ve but that's about it, and they're five years old. Guess it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and might not be flats v rounds per se, or perhaps poor intonation is simply less noticeable with flats?
21.
Could easily be a part some had sold on from a whole one, way back when. I know what I'm going to do with it if I win. Strip it, paint it, get rid of that nasty switching system and rewire to volume tone for each pickup, or a straight volume for each pickup. Get a proper neck for it and blah.
You could probably get a far better instrument custom made for the total cost of the bass and all that work. However attractive the mongrel might appear, there's a lot of risks in buying something that far from original - and that's over an above the risks in buying a 70's Fender full stop. The routs don't look all the clever for a start. You could open the case and get a bit of a fright To get the bass you wnat it to be, you'd be far better of buying an MIJ Jazz with the neck and finish you want and getting Howard (Bass Doc) to install the P-PUP etc. C
22. I sooooooooo want it but I soooooooooo don't need it Help me out Gareth, drop the price a bit so someone buys it tonight! C
