  1. Agreed to a point. Vibrato is certainly a skill, but less of a skill on some instruments, voice included, than holding a sustained note in tune, something I learned the hard way when I switched from orchestral violin to bluegrass fiddle, the former requiring lots of vibrato, the latter demanding sustained and often double stopped notes with none. Without using vibrato it’s a whole lot harder to sound in tune with other instruments/voices, requiring more technical control plus a better ear for your pitch and that of the others
  2. Not a theory but a tried and trusted technique. Plenty of singers - and instrumentalists for that matter - can’t hold a single note at pitch for more than a few milliseconds. It’s why vibrato was invented
  3. Ha ha, I remember even at the time recognising that neither songwriting or lead vocals were their strong point. But the bass, rhythm guitar, horns and BVs are at times outstanding
  4. Had the pleasure of meeting Ian yesterday when he came to collect yet another item of bass gear that's departed Beedster Towers. Great guy, wish I could have invited him in for a decent chat about basses, amps, etc. Next time mate Chris
  5. Used to love The Higsons about 40 years ago. Stumbled across them again today and found myself realising what a great bassist Colin Williams was/is (no idea what he'd oing now, Wikipedia entry simply says "Got a full time job after the band split in 1986).. In fact, having assumed that my main slap influence in the 1980s was Flea, I think the relatively humble Higsons might have beaten the RHCPs to it Live version of Run me Down (many of you will recognise Mr Higson form his later incarnation as part of The Fast Show). Studio Version
  6. Alright Lawrie, don't rub it in, and everyone knows '64 was a far better year anyway
  7. £2.5k for a ‘64 in 2015 seems an altered reality! Good luck with your search, if you find it for sale I hope you get equally lucky with price
  8. Stunning body this, lovely pieces of wood with stunning grain, hard to show how good it looks in the flesh in mere photographs! It cost me a lot more to import it to the UK than the asking price here, and Warmoth aren't getting any cheaper! Not sure of the weight but it felt very light also. I was going to sand off the thin finish and oil it but just found myself with too many projects so sold it. It will build into a stunning bass for someone. C
  9. Hi Mark, it can use the RME TotalMix software https://www.rme-audio.de/totalmix-fx-routing-layout.html which some people love and some people don't love (i personally fall into the latter category so don't use it). I can't help much on options re your question, hope the link helps. Chris
  10. Binding works for me
  11. Isn't that just another example of the horrible eBay translation algorithms that many Japanese sellers appear to use, often resulting in 'Mis-shapen Bass' or 'Abandoned Interface'?
  12. I was wondering where you'd been dude, hope all's well. Chris
  13. I think we sometimes forget that music isn’t a science, it’s an art. It’s not about whether the science says they should work together, it’s about using our skill - and some nice cabs of course - to make them work together
  14. There is something of a Mesa renaissance on BC at present. May it long continue
  15. I read TB a lot, there's a lot of expertise there as there is here, and the US bias there around gear/music can balance the at times UK/Euro bias here. The two sites complement each other rather well
  16. Don't know what it is about the Mesa 6x10 and the Strategy, but they just work as a rig don't they
  17. It would probably make it sound fretted Owen, which perhaps defeats the object
  18. Thanks Martin, further details on this unit here https://archiv.rme-audio.de/en/products/babyface_pro.php. It's a bloody good piece of kit, great preamps, converters and drivers, bus powered (which I've always preferred to be honest), simple to use, works with a very wide range of hardware/software, and not only built like a tank but supplied with an equally tank-like hard case that will also store the USB/midi breakout cables. I'm only selling this as I've recently switched to UAD, and whilst you'd need to have very good ears to hear any difference between the two units, the UAD device allows me to use their plug-ins which was the deciding factor in the RME/UAD decision making process.
  19. Great piece of kit I've had for years but now surplus to requirement. Can run into Thunderbolt 2 using one adapter or into Thunderbolt 3 using two adapters. Bus powered. Has the Host light issue from new that is common with these, means you have to turn it on twice at the start of each recording session. Having said this, I can say with confidence that it's been rock solid through hundreds of sessions.
  20. Virtually unused, bought at the beginning of lockdown for a project that's still on hold. Plenty on line about just how useful a box of tricks this is. Immaculate condition as you can see from the close up photos. Mic & power supply both included in sale although not in photos. Insured courier around £30.

  22. Exactly the same cause as my current software woes, worst decision I ever made I think
  23. Lovely, and yes, Promenade are great people, went well out of their way to help me a few years ago when they really didn’t need to
  24. Thanks WM, I like the 'looks similar' as I've found a few apps that don't and that in itself is a big part of the learning curve. Is it generally stable, loads OK, no crashes etc on your machine. Also, do you have to use iLok to run it - I was require to link the download to my iLok account - or is that simply for paid-for plug-ins?
  25. Price tag?
