  1. This is what wikipedia says about the album as a whole Floodland was pieced together on a computer that used sequencers to help. Eldritch worked on the recorded parts with a Voyetra Sequencer Plus, while a Yamaha SPX-90 was used as an effects unit and the parts were saved on a Compaq Portable 286. The guitars were played by Eldritch himself, apart from the solo on "This Corrosion", which was played by Steinman's friend Eddie Martinez
  2. Another of his: when you attend a funeral / it is sad to think that soon or llll- / -lllater.....
  3. PS and thank you to whichever mod moved this thread to the right subforum. After I posted it, I realised that asking people with an especial interest in amps and cabs about amp and cab sims was pretty rude. Like going on the Bass Guitar subforum and asking which sequencer and synth best for replacing a bass player.....
  4. It seems like a future-proof choice: good with headphones, with a domestic speaker, with a bigger active speaker, with going into the desk, with going into a traditional amp. And working out how to program it should keep me occupied until the return of normality in 2023.....
  5. Thanks for the nice clear advice I've got some recommendations for headphones already sorted, but as I gave myself tinnitus a few years ago, I don't want to use them all the time. I think I should probably just get a move on with the Line6 and worry about identifying the right active speaker for me later on.
  6. For my domestic use, I have a small old practice amp, which makes a pretty basic sound. I would like to make a nicer noise, without making more noise. I'm wondering if an amp sim and/or a cab sim plus a small active speaker would make a more pleasing noise. (Thinking forward to a highly unlikely future, the amp/cab sim could go straight into a PA, yes?) I havent done much reading up on this subject yet, so feel free to be patronising, and please don't waste your time getting too technical on my account Like all things, active speakers seem to go from dirt cheap to money burning. How much would need to be spent not to make the amp/cab sims a waste of time? And yes I am looking at the cheap Line 6 for sale in the effects section
  7. I've checked my illusions and there seems to be no damage at all - if they look and sound the same, then what I've understood about the noise they make is intact, right? I did wonder about a cheap instrument, as it was then, having a brand name pickup.... Naivety, will I never shake myself free of you?! 😔
  8. Wonder how the lyrics to Talky Bass (Goes Down) go. When I was googling furiously last year trying to educate myself, I found that the vast majority of useful results were talkbass threads. It's a lot more pleasant than some other forums I've belonged to, and I found that the worst end of the spectrum of behaviour there vanished after only a handful of clicks of the ignore button.
  9. The tempting devil whispering in my ear is saying that it would be great to have a cheap j neck bass strung with flats for when my hands are tired. Despite the fact that I've already got a not-quite-so-cheap j neck bass strung with flats getting no attention whatsoever. 🙄 If I had one fewer bass than I wanted rather than one more than I would like to have, that Peavey would have got bought weeks ago.
  10. What's funny is that it would be SO easy for a youtuber to disingenuously flatter their way into a forum's affections, racking up the clicks all the while - hello you knowledgable people, I've done this video on using intelligent modding to transform a cheap bass into something really worthwhile - do you think I've missed anything? What do you think of the pacing? I didn't want to assume people knew anything, but does it drag at all? Etc etc. But I suppose a surfeit of self-effacing modesty isn't one of the primary attributes of the average YouTubeGuRou
  11. I'm pretty beginnery myself, and it seems to me like it would suit, but shall we ask @Paul S ?
  12. I had no expectations in one department, but I was definitely bemused by what happened in the other
  13. Theres a Peavey Fury II - slim 38mm nut, single humbucker, 3 band EQ, hard case, thoroughly pre-loved appearance - for sale here for £120-ish. If someone doesnt buy it soon I'll end getting it just because I can't bear the thought of it sitting there unwanted! I'll get the link.... Fury II for sale And here's a 2012 thread on the very instrument: Peavey Fury II
  14. I once did some searching for opinions on wiring a split in parallel, and found quite a few people being straightforwardly dismissive of the idea. Are these people simply blinkered, or is it that the DiM has enough welly not to be enfeebled by the parallel wiring? I've been stupid for the idea of those pickups since I came across a demo video of an early 80s Ibanez Blazer and was told that the glorious sound was probably a combination of one of them and Rotosound 66s. There was a very lightweight Cort P for sale here recently which had been fitted with one. I was so tempted that I was doing my best to persuade myself that my hands would be able to cope with the 1¾" neck. Fortunately I failed, but ah the regret. Obviously I had zero need for it neither.... 😏
  15. I've always been entertained by the irony that, since keyboard warrior is a pejorative term used to describe people who write in a pejorative manner online, it is impossible to use the term online without falling under its definition oneself 🙃
  16. I'm still listening to most of these albums repeatedly. So Far So Good is holding up well in the competition, definitely underrated - tho I can't help wondering what it would be like if Gar and Chris Poland had been playing on it. ...And Justice For All is still seeming like the out and out masterpiece of the 8 albums, despite being so stylistically extreme. Its singular tonal landscape suits the music. The other three Megadeths I can't choose between, now that I've reprogrammed the running order of Rust in Peace (amongst various changes, it now ends with "Hangar 18") Chris Poland's playing on Peace Sells is other-worldly and Killing Is my Business couldn't be better calculated to make me happy: fast, messy and cheerfully belligerent. Ride The Lightning I don't love as much as all the Megadeth, but it's still getting listened to just as much, because it's just so right.
  17. The pot is working fine, the reason that is because my hand never sets it anywhere other than the two extremes.
  18. I've noticed that I the tone knob on my 424 is either on 0 or 10 - it may as well be a switch. On the recent varitone thread, attention was drawn to this rotary switch made by@KiOgon - An alternative for the tone pot, a 4 way rotary switch that gives 2 tone positions + Bypass and Kill/Off. Clockwise operation gives; A = Off or Kill B = On - Bypass, no tone pot/resistor or capacitor, straight through output C = .033uF PolyDrop capacitor, changed from .047 for better differential D = 0.1uF PolyDrop capacitor, Old School deep velvet tone I was wondering how .033 and .1 would relate to whatever it is that I already have in my 424, and how they would behave with the three positions of the pickup selector.
  19. CLICK HERE to find out how I turned a cheap £1 bag of flour into a pro wedding cake 🍰
  20. Instead of being happy to concentrate on the transparent body and the pg-matched headstock, I find myself with three questions: what does the little switch do? is that a Di Marzio PAF? does anyone ever use tort for the block inlays on a maple fretboard?
  21. I keep wondering aloud if anyone's tried tuning a six string BD#GBD#G - same range as a five string, but with only a major 3rd from one string to the next, easier to get an immaculately smooth legato line - but for some inexplicable reason, I always just get totally ignored 😢
  22. Now I'm tempted to click on the link to see if this guy's ears stick out just as much
  23. 4kg 2024 on sale here on BC klaxon. Thank goodness it's not white 😅
  24. is more than what this thread deserves. Hey, how come the forum software substitutes a euphemism for bs when I quote yr post but not on yr post?!
  25. This needs posting again The story he tells would have been 1961
