  1. 70 seconds going back and forth between two bassists playing two P-basses producing very different tones, and it's all good: If you prefer one over the other, what is it that gives it that extra appeal for you?
  2. The same problem comes up in the opposite direction - here are some classical musicians trying to play Aphex Twin
  3. The first performance of The Rite of Spring caused a scandal, and a version for electric guitars etc produces nodding respect. Whither art thou, rock?
  4. Possibly of interest.... Reverb seller in Maidenhead
  5. I have absolutely no intention of attempting to resist the temptation to post this, a demo I'm absolutely fixated with. (At least, the second halves of the flats-then-rounds pairs of phrases: the flats seem a waste on such a vibrant instrument.)
  8. This has reminded me to look at Guitar Galleries website ... it looks like they have 1 bass in stock at the moment ... perhaps I'm pressing the buttons wrong. (As I write that, I catch my bass rolling its eyes and muttering, that's a definite possibility)
  9. Low-ball sellers of USA built G&Ls until one cracks in tears
  10. Rich just sent me a beautifully parcelled up Line 6 pedalorama and everything was easy and very pleasurable. Thank you!
  11. That was fantastic thank you. The answer to my question is very different to what I was expecting. When I was much younger, I was a guitarist and very much, as it were, a fan of Team Gibson. I'm still trying getting my head around the refusal of my love for humbuckers on guitars to transfer to basses.
  12. I might have done the same with photos of them.... 😬 I believe I saw that both are now marked sold?
  13. I'm holding that photo up to my sunburst 424 and asking it, wouldn't you much rather look like that?!
  14. Speaking purely from the shallow perspective of looks......that's now very tasty! 😛
  15. If you took a p-bass... ...removed the split pickup... ...and replaced it, in exactly the same spot, with a humbucker that, aside from the obvious, was as similar as possible to the split pickup ...then what would be the tonal consequences? Which of the elements of the typical p-bass tone are the ones that would be lost? What tonal characters would be added? (I can see that most single humbucker basses differ from this picture, so I don't need to be told that it's a bad idea etc etc, I'm just curious to know)
  16. At last I've been an explanation for the delay: because of the non existence of air travel atm, there aren't enough planes flying around to take the mail that usually hitches a lift. So the bass will still be sat in a queue in NY. Which reminds me of Casablanca. All the bass guitars stuck waiting for a flight out of America go to Rick's every night to drink champagne cocktails, flog off diamond rings, and sing the Marseillaise.
  17. Has anyone put a set of 50-110 Rotosound flats on a BB1100S? Given that his Precision is 11½ lbs of maple, his idea of comfortable might not be entirely in tune with, say, mine 😬
  18. With headstock and quote From a 1988 interview: "The Fender Precision is my instrument, my beloved Precisions. I've tried lots of different guitars, including some Lados, and they felt great and were really well made, but the sound just seemed to lack richness in the bottom end."
  19. You'll be pleased to hear that the Fury II has finally found a new home, where it is the only bass amongst a handful of guitars, and I'm told that it is being very much appreciated
  20. Can someone do a video analysing threads on tone woods and see if the contents of the OP of each thread makes any difference to what gets posted in the thread?
  21. I would like to hear a test where everything was the same....including the wood. Would they all sound the identical, or would there still be variation from one instrument to the next?
  22. I hate to think how little it would be worth as fenced goods. Fifty quid?
