How do we feel about influential rhythm guitarists like, say, Malcolm Young and James Hetfield?

Within that "world of overdistorted rawk", my real admiration is for the guitarists who are able to exploit that sound to expand the expressive possibilities of tone and articulation. For, example, what's going on here in the phrase between 2'18" and 2'25" is quite beyond my understanding of how you get sounds out of an electric guitar, and he's still in total control, it's real mastery and musicianship.

Oh, I should have had that on my list, too. Frustratingly, I had really enjoyed "Dr Mabuse" on Now 3, but didn't get around to getting to know A Secret Wish for another 30 years. Ugh. ps I also knew of The Cure and The Smiths from early Now albums, so I really had no excuse

...and sometimes the guitarist just needs a little help...

I'm perfectly content with my 424, but the knowledge that for just £5 more I could have had a 1024 is making me daydream a bit. I know that they make pretty similar sounds, but what would be the biggest tonal difference between the two? From the YouTube demos I've heard, the biggest difference is in the quality of the neck pickups soloed. I get the impression that the 1024's is the same style as the 424's but with a bit more liveliness and complexity. (On my 424 I find that I need both pickups together to make a satisfyingly complete sound.)
