  1. I get that…have a friend that plays one of those single cutaway coffee table sixers. It’s ugly to me but I wouldn’t let that stop me from playing it.
  2. I wish I could make this a survey question… I personally don’t care much about what my gear looks like. I’ve made out like a bandit rescuing other player’s abandoned and slightly beat up gear. I also would probably not consider playing a jazz, folk, or country gig on upright knowing I can produce an acceptable tone on my fretless Spector. I do, however care a great deal about how my kit works and sounds. Not being judgmental, just curious…where does the collective land on this subject?
  3. Old school and hefty… Main amp is a Fender Dual Showman with 4x12 cab Hartke kickback for practice and backup
  4. Where there’s a will…..
  5. Not sure…he couldn’t set it on fire 🔥
  6. I would settle for a 4x10 if I found one that gave me the tonal range I want.
  7. I would not change much. I probably would have started getting into gigging here a lot sooner. Starting from scratch without any connections at 67 isn’t ideal. Fortunately, folks have been very accepting so….just not a lot of gigs to be played.
  8. 1. A good 4x12 cab 2. an EUB 3. a red Pentabuzz
  9. I really appreciate his content….it’s not my groove, but he is an amazing talent.
  10. The first few examples show alternative chords, as has been well covered. I would ask the pianist what chords to follow…nobody else will know or care. The chord symbol with the slash like Dmaj7/B indicates that you should include a B somewhere in that section, preferably on the downbeat.
  11. 1. My Fender Dual Showman….it just works for the music I play right now. Both bands I’ve used it with rave at the tone. 2. Rumble 200…just should not sound as big as it does. 3. I used to have a little Traynor 1 x 12 combo amp…great little practice amp.
  12. Somewhere around 1200 seems about right. I had an RD Artist in the ‘80’s…cracking bass, but check to see if the neck needs reset.
  13. After Being lifelong 4 string player, I switched to 5 and find it almost universally better, mostly because you have easy access to 2 octaves. Amongst othings, that lets me play up the dusty end and still have good access to the “money notes”.
  14. I believe I’d be okay in most situations, but would definitely keep it simple until I had an idea of what was going on….space is your friend on these kinds of adventures.
  15. On the NE2, I start flat, then adjust as needed. This is assuming no FOH sound engineer.
  16. Very few songs I can’t see any value in. I don’t like Autumn Leaves because it’s usually the first song called in every annoyingly mediocre jam session. One more supporting vote for Mustang Sally… it can be such a great groove
  17. Never used a pedal. I have a clip-on for gigs and an old Peterson for setup.
  18. Remembering the early ‘80’s and a local band who would drop acid before a gig. The results were always less than optimal.
  19. Soda water with a slice of lime…party on!
  20. Love vintage amps…I’ll bet it sounds great…
  21. I have not gigged enough with my basses to only bring one, and both my fretted basses are active. My solution in either my classic rock band or a jazz gig is to bring one fretted and the fretless.
  22. “Could you use something other than a P Bass?”
  23. You do have a great, tight sound. I checked beginning and ending tempos with a metronome then listened for variance….old school.
