1.
Maybe BC could do those rubber wrist bands (like the lance armstrong Livestrong ones) and only sell to BCers with any profit going to charity?
That is actually quite a good idea. Like it.
2.
Is there any way of identifying fellow BCers at gigs?
Bald head and bad dress sense?
3.
(sometimes the bass player is just going R.R. rather than R5).
WHA??? Ah crap - I'm clearly in over my head here. Lol. I just had to google "jeff beck" to figure out what you meant there H. I'm stupid today.
4. That's great - you've come to my rescue again. Thanks mate! I love Cash - only one bassline to learn to cover the entire back catalogue.
5. I've listened to a few recordings of Johnny Cash singing Big River, and I can't actually make out anything resembling a bass line. I know there is one... (and I'll probably either go with a stock Root-5 thing or follow the Highwaymen's version)... but thought I'd post on the off-chance someone has better equipment and some clue what is actually being played. Cheers if you can help. Cheers anyway if you read this and thought about it. No cheers if you didn't read it - it had Johnny Cash in the topic title, what more do you want!?!?! 8
6. Mediocre is the new black. Welcome.
7.
Come and see Telebass pretend to have long hair!
Wig?
8.
Dean Stylist perhaps ? (mine's yellow) or a Telebass?
Hmmm.... interesting. I'd never live it down if I bought a Tele... after the grief I gave my mate for buying a Telecaster. But looking at it... it's alright innit!?!
9. Do y'all (see, I *can* do country!!!) think I'd get away with a Squier or would it make me the red-headed stepchild? Just trying to remain open to all options at the minute. Also trying to work out whether I'd get away with a Zenith. Now there's a guitar I'd be happy to own regardless what happens to this project in the future.
10.
If it was more rockabilly and less country I would suggest that from a visual PoV the Vampire might be a good fit.
It's country really. But I'm excited anyway, especially at the prospect of maybe getting to play the upright one day. Hell, I'd love to do rockabilly/psychobilly/gothabilly at some point - that's the stuff that got me interested in playing bass.
11. I just don't want to stick out like a sore thumb... and my current roster of guitars all look a bit too metal. Shouldn't really be buying another bass at this point; but it's the first sniff of a band I've had in ages so I'd like it to be successful.
12. Lol. I figure if I keep this thread going long enough, someone will tell me it's ok to take the Vampyre to a country show.
13. Cheers guys. I'm definitely keen on bringing in the double bass as soon as I can. But it looks like maybe a cheapish Fender-P will do in the mean time. @BigRedX - remind me to check your Myspace page when I'm not at work. Dick Venom and The Terrortones is such a cool name.
14.
I just looked it up. Now I know.
Lol. I was trying to think of a good way of pointing it out. When I first started listening to rockabilly/psychobilly, I even posted on the internet asking what kind of drum makes the slapping noise on those records.
15. Some great ideas there, thank you.
If you haven't played a hollow-body on stage at full gig volumes, then tread carefully.
Ok now you've scared the crap out me. I have no idea what I'm doing on stage... and really wouldn't need to be worrying about feedback etc as well as everything else. Think I'll stay away from hollowbodies and semis until I can hire a guitar tech to deal with it all for me.
16. It's a story for another time but i might be doing a bit of country/rockabilly bass playing. Eventually I'd hope to use the double bass, but I'd be starting out on this project with bass guitars. If you ask me, my Schecter (+ flatwounds) sounds fine for this, but wouldn't look right. So I was considering whether I should get something like this: However, £2k is too much and I'd rather have a full scale neck if possible. A Fender would work... but assuming (for a second) I'm after the hillbilly look, just wondering if anyone has any ideas for suitable alternatives to these Gretsch things? Cheers.
17. Rockbass. They took the Rockbass branding off the headstock this (or last) year. (The German Corvette $$ has a swamp ash body and ovangkol neck btw)
18.
Whats all this nonsense about fakers? Is someone playing the bass for you or are you miming over a recording?
+1 I'm not buying this "fake" thing. You played bass in bands, that makes you a bass player - so if you're not happy with your current skill set then, like anything else in life, you just have to work a little harder until you are happy. Working out songs by ear is kinda fun - and seems to be one of those things that gets easier everytime you do it. Just start there if it's something you'd like to be able to do. If you quit for such trivial (i.e. fixable) reasons, you'll really regret it one day.
19.
Err, check the date... Nice one Wayne!
Ah come off it!?!?! When are they going to ban this April fool nonsense. Lol.
20.
I took the plunge :S Jens is a great guy to deal with.
You've ordered a Ritter??? Clearly punk pays better than I thought. Tell us more (about the bass, not the punk).
21. I hate the falseness of having to stand around and clap... you know the band is coming back out because the song everyone has been waiting all night to hear still hasn't been played. Ban encores. There's no need for them.
22. In order of preference... 1. 1978 Fender Precision Preferably in black with the black scratchplate. Only played one old Fender and I really quite liked it (shocked myself) so I quite fancy the idea of getting one from the year I was born. 2. Ritter Raptor Just curious if I'd actually get on with one of these hideously priced, pretentious things. They are cool though. 3. Warwick Infinity NT By no means an unachievable goal... but I haven't yet touched one and I'd love to have a go. [s]4. Esh Stinger[/s] Would have been number 4 but now scratched from the list because I just got one. 5. Peavey Project Bass Yep... one day I'd like to actually finish the project I started last year and play the damn thing.
23. Hahahahahaha. Sorry mate, didn't see your post until now. That's had me in stitches since reading it. Cheeky git!
24. God I hate this. There's no excuse. Most of the big online music stores in the UK have burned me this way - and I never deal with them again after they've done it. If something says 'in stock' and lets you pay for it then and there promising x days delivery, then I expect it at my door x days later. Not x days after they've eventually managed to source the item from a distributor. Bastards.
