1.
Been lurking on this thread coz I was thinking of posting the same question so just to say a huge thanks to everyone for their suggestions. Ticked My Baby Just Cares for Me and Moon Over Bourbon Street off the list now working my way through Fever and realising what a fscking great song it is ! Many thanks ladies 'n' gents.
Hahah. I did My Baby and Fever (not to a high standard I might add). I feel like I should try this Moon Over Bourbon Street just so we're on level pegging. Although I do feel the allure of A Boy Named Sue... not a phrase I ever thought I'd utter.
 2.
5 Am I really this awesome? Yes, so I shall slap. (black shirt, white tie)
Hahahaha. This is the face I pull when I actually play something right. So gets my vote.
 3.
Do you think he 'sent the boys round' or 'splashed the cash'
Hahahahah - he certainly had a few options available to him. 1. Splash the cash. He's probably got enough now. 2. Metallica's legal team - oh mummy... 3. I bet his homies from the old days are not people you want to mess with. Regardless, that bass was heading home one way or another. Good on him. Always struck me as a nice guy, a great player (Infectious Grooves just kill) and way too good for Metallica.
 4. Trying to work out whether (if legit stories, which is highly unlikely) this is one of the funniest uses of the internet since gopher was abandoned, or whether it's repulsive trash.
 5. Thanks for the extra suggestions. Just been trying My Baby Just Cares For Me... this double bass thing is harder than it looks But coming along.
Glad to hear your delving back into DB. Enjoy
Cheers mate. First time around was a bit of a false start really - but now that my ear is better and I actually know a little about bass, I'm hoping to make more progress.
 6. Cheers guys, I'll have a crack at them. It's quite exciting to be picking the thing up again - only this time with a bit better of an idea of what I'm supposed to be doing.
 7. I'd learn to read music first - there's lots of info out there relating to music theory but much of the stuff I've read would be harder to grasp if you can't read the examples. Just 2p from someone who's also working through theory stuff.
if i guitarist says to me his playing a tune in G, would i be right in saying the bass riff root note would be in G?
Not necessarily. He probably means in the key of G major (g a b c d e f#). So you could have any chord progression built on notes from that scale and your root notes would be based on the chord not the key. E.g. A min, E min, D maj would give you the roots A, E, D. All in the key of G.
 8. I've decided this month is the time to start using that double bass I bought years ago which has done little else but stand and gather dust. (Bought it before I had a bass guitar and then realised I didn't have a clue where to start on a bass instrument). Looking for any suitable song suggestions (pizz not arco) to help me get going. I can play some scales, and can slap a little but that's about it. Cheers guys. BTW This is also the first time I've ventured into this area of the forum. It's like going into the back room of that local boozer.
Bit of a pain really, but they asked for it, they also have a no 5 string bass rule,
I don't play 5s... I don't want to play 5s... but this is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. And actually, I suspect I'd lose my cool quite badly if someone decided to tell me what I can and can't do like that. If the bassline is fine, I say they should mind they should mind their own business as to how you get there.

 11. If it's crap - at least we'll be the first ones to be able to say so.
 12. I've played loads of Jamerson in recent months, and know some of the basslines quite well indeed... but could never get my head around playing with one finger. I tried repeatedly (for laughs) but got absolutely nowhere. Two fingers came naturally. Three I'm working on with moderate success. But one? Nah. Can't.
 13.
Money making scam hey...
Maybe... maybe not. Bare in mind they're promising structured development, resources and feedback (if you send in clips of you playing etc.) then it's more or less what I get from my bass teacher (not quitting regular lessons btw) and have found extremely beneficial over just picking tunes I like and playing them. I doubt it will be as good as they're claiming (that's what marketing is all about) but it's a bit early to write it off as a scam.
 14.
Have you seen any content yet? I can't help feeling a bit sceptical that they will have enough to justify daily updates
They don't officially open until June but they've posted a few exercises and things to work on in the mean time. Stuff like the spider and crab exercises, g major scale all over the neck, blues scales, slapping + popping exercises etc. Basically, things you're going to "need to know" for the actual course. I don't know if it will be any good or not - I'm betting on it being useful enough *for me* to justify the cost. I have my doubts exactly how useful it'll all be for someone with more playing experience and knowledge of funk; but since I have very little of either then I'm sure I'm going to be easily pleased.
 15. I went for the monthly option. Near enough equates (cost-wise) to one extra bass lesson a month, so if they keep the promise of uploading new stuff daily then it could be a very good thing for me.
 16.
now i can't play what i want to play as smoothly as i want.
Let that be a lesson to you about quitting bass.
 17.
So, we still don't know what cloaking is, apart from we cannae fire if we are cloaked
It's basically getting your site to detect a search engine and presenting it with different content than you'd show to a user. You can read more on Wiki if you're interested - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloaking Traditionally, Google will ban you from their listings in a flash if they catch you at it.
 18. Just bought a compressor from Andy, and in addition to the unit being just as desired (and described), I just wanted to say he's a very friendly guy, easy to chat to and an all round fine fellow. Cheers Andy.
 19.
I just wanted to say 'stupider' is now my most overused word!
Hahahahahahah.
 20. Looks good to me. I've used a couple of Tascam mixers which were nice - don't know anything about their audio interfaces though. Seen a few USB Mixers which mislead you into thinking they record each channel to the DAW independently when in fact you only get a two channel audio interface used to record the main mix output. But this one specifically states you've got 16. Fancy it myself now. Pricey?
 21. Cheers guys. It's very much appreciated... without BC I'd be lost sometimes.
I presume you have a jack to speakon cable to connect your compact? If the cab you buy only has jack inputs then you will need the same kind of cable.
Yep, I had to buy one when I was using the MAG300 which didn't have a speakon port. Because of my confusion, when I got the Pro Fet I just used the same setup.
If your still stuck check the manual as some amps can be odd. If you don't have it Warwick should have it on their site as a adobe PDF file download.
I have the manual - it's not much help really. I think Warwick tend to assume that if you're buying their gear then you know what you're doing. As opposed to be a newb with more money than sense.
 22.
Does it have one speakon and one normal jack for the speaker connection? If so, plug one into each. You can also daisy chain although not from the Compact as it only has one speakon.
Yep - one speakon and one normal. I'm currently plugged into the normal jack. Am I having a blonde moment here (still a few strands of blonde left)...? If I says 4ohm min... does that mean I can or can't use an 8ohm cab with the speakon? I can never remember if 8ohms is greater or less than 4. Like I said, dumb question.
 23. This question probably makes me look even dumber (but hey, if you've been on this forum for a while then you've seen me make stupider posts)... I'm currently using a Warwick Pro Fet 5.2 and a Barefaced Compact. The Fet is 500W @ 4ohm (so maybe around 300W into the 8ohm Compact). I often see posts about getting another 8ohm cab to get the most out of an amp... but if I did where would I plug it in??? The amp has a 1 x speakon (I think) port marked "500W@4ohm Min" and 1 x standard jack "Speaker" output. I'm probably misunderstanding but presumably you can't plug an 8ohm cab into the speakon??? So can this amp only take one cab then??? Or am I missing the vital piece of information all other bass players know?
 24. How much non-posted? I'd throw in a pint
 25. Bugger bugger bugger... I just started writing one but there's no way I could compete with IK. Still... I'll be buying theirs.
