1. Can I be first in line if you decide to post? (If only you'd been selling this two weeks ago when I was driving past. Git )
2. Also, Peavey do one, http://www.dv247.com/guitars/peavey-ampkit...nterface--76618 And there was something else at a similar price point wot I saw in Guitar Guitar last time I was in there.
3.
Oh dear. I sense some form of proprietary Apple lead that costs a million pounds and is made like crap.
Hahahah. £23 will get you an adapter (and in some cases, an extra app) http://www.dv247.com/guitars/ik-multimedia...and-ipad--74305 It's just because the "headphone" socket on the iOS devices has three segments. One of those is the mic... Meaning if you found a plug which happened to connect to the right segment in the jack, you then wouldn't be able to hear anything from the device (since it would think headphones are plugged in).
4. It's not great; but it is good. And apparently they've just added support to import loops and sound files - Though I haven't tried this feature yet. Playing in your own drums is easy enough; and the keyboard instruments (little limited maybe) are also good. For guitar input - you'll want to google for something like the iRig adapter - you can't just plug a 2.5mm adapter in there. But it's not fully loaded for guitar and bass amp modelling blah blah as something like the iOS version of Amplitube or the Galien Kruger app.
5.
I'd heard that Warwick were putting many more conditions on shops before allowing them to be Warwick dealers.
Yep. I've had a few dealers tell me this. One, not naming names, told me that they were actually selling loads of Warwicks but the company made itself so difficult to work with that the dealer decided not to bother anymore and pushed other brands instead.
6. I'm in. Will PM you in a bit - have to rush off.
7. Also... these things must be agreed quite a while before the gig, right? What if you got there and decided that you didn't want the pizza you have on your rider, but actually want curry??? I can't even do a weekly shop because I can never tell what I'm going to want to eat one day in advance.
8. Weird. I never knew Geezer was vegetarian/vegan. Well... I suppose it isn't weird that I didn't know that... it's not like we're in some brotherhood.
9. Still not finished the primer stage OR ordered a new pickguard. Good job really. After seeing the 50th Anniversary Jazz in BGM, I decided this bass needs a thumbrest - couple of quid and some precision drilling later, the body now has another extra hole and the pickguard is finally ready to be sent off as a template. Slow progress... but progress nonetheless.
10.
The other thing I have noticed is that musicians lie like hell. While anybody else will tell you, "I'm a great tennis player because I've been practicing for twelve hours a day for the last fifteen years", musicians say "Hey, I just picked it up and could play it".
Hahaha. That's true - I'm sure we've all been guilty of overstating our abilities or understating our practice at some point. Particularly when there's a girl involved.
11.
I'm not saying there's some mysterious force behind his abilities. I'm saying that genetically he had some predisposition towards musical ability and creativity, and as it so happened that he grew up in a musical household, he blossomed in that environment. To deny that is to deny that humans differ one from the other. Talent is relative, rather than absolute.
Show me the science behind that and I'll agree with you. But no, denying there's a genetic reason behind musical 'talent' does not deny that humans differ.
12. I think the thread could be handy. I'd like to know if someone was deeply unhappy with the luthier I was thinking of going to - and I would assume that if other people had received an excellent service from the same chap then they would also post. That way I can read some different opinions. Of course, I'm in the norf so we have BassDoc. Nuff said really.
13.
We're not talking about some mysterious force, we're talking about DNA and how they where raised in their early life, stuff that we can't change now, not with any amount of practice.
Show me the genome that makes one person a more "talented" musician from birth. Early life = early start. Which is not the same argument as being 'born' more musically gifted. Anything learned early in life, can be learned later in life (just not as easily).
14.
Explain Mozart then.
You mean that Austrian kid who's father was a musician, and who spent his early years watching his father teach his sister, before he himself started picking out notes and intervals? Mozart was not born a brilliant player/composer - he didn't sit down at the piano one day and suddenly write at his best. His early years were critical, as was his whole approach to learning. Is it rare for kids to show that discipline, motivation and clarity of thought? Absolutely. But it doesn't prove the existence of some mysterious force behind his abilities.
15.
Just get a keys player and a drummer and work though some motown/stax/northern soul like everyone else is playing.
Fixed. I wonder how many times the examiners will be listening to Bernadette this year.
16. There's no such thing as talent. There's no such thing as being "musically inclined". Some people are maybe more interested in music than others; and this is important when comes to motivation and how much time you spend thinking about/understanding what you're doing instead of just going through the motions hoping to get better. Someone mentioned earlier about related (or something unrelated) skills/experiences unexpectedly playing a part in your development of another skill - this is a point which is deeply under-rated. And since we were talking about Wooten, think about what "born into a musical family" means. It's not that there's some code in his DNA which makes him a great musician, it's that from the moment he was born he was learning from other players... and he worked at it. Edit: Me, I'm miles away from 10,000 hours. My practice routine is not as comprehensive as it should be... but I'm doing okish.
17.
There's an app on iOS that does this, called 'Bass Clef', but it requires you to 'play' the notes by tapping a virtual string on your phone, rather than just giving you random notes to play on a real bass - if that makes any sense?
Play This Note Bass Edition supports the iDevice's mic - so you can, in theory, use your real bass instead of tapping on a virtual fretboard. I haven't tried that bit of the app though - since I only used it while at work for a few weeks.
18. I know they say bass is easier than guitar, but we'd really be in for it if you could learn to play at Steve Harris speed in a month. Don't worry - just practice.
19.
Maybe I need to drink less coffee
Maybe. On the other hand, sometimes you don't know how good an idea is until you try it. And I'm sure the pedal could be put back together if required.
20. Bizarre. I think it would be fairly straight-forward to do this. Not sure about the CS3 specifically, but I would have fancied my chances with the pedals I have taken apart before.
21.
Bass - C'est moi! Vocals - Nina Hagen Drums - Henry Spinetti Guitar - J (Jay Noel Yuenger - White Zombie) Keyboards - Roddy Bottum (Faith No More)
*sigh* Had to sack Roddy - he just didn't get what we were trying to do with this band. I'd like to dismiss rumors of the band's demise, we are stronger than ever having secured the services of the amazingly talented Kristen Lawrence. (http://halloweencarols.com/) Bass - C'est moi! Vocals - Nina Hagen Drums - Henry Spinetti Guitar - J (Jay Noel Yuenger - White Zombie) Organ/Keys - Kristen Lawrence
22.
Absolutely. The issue really is that digital books are pretty easy to copy between users, and given that most young kids want everything for free, I'd be very worried that my books would quickly end up on torrent sites.
I understand... but if people want to pirate your book then they will. It's pretty trivial to scan books, magazines, comics etc. these days - happens all the time and there's lots of software/stands etc. to help with the job. Even the cameras on mobiles are good enough to take a picture of the pages, and from there you're a few clicks away from a PDF. But your concerns are completely understandable - a lot of people are in the same boat. The question being asked is when do the digital sales offset the risk; distribution through Kindle/iBooks helps a bit if you can do that. Anyway... I'll be buying it regardless and very much looking forward to the announcement saying we can all get our wallets out.
23. You know you want the Squier, and you know you're going to get it regardless of the advice you're given here. The clue is in the topic title. Just get it; and enjoy the rare feeling of getting to spend that money you work a boring job for etc. on something you want instead of crap like food and bills.
24. I think we did this a few years ago, and I ended up with the monkey from the Cadbury's ad on the drums and Nina Hagen on vocals (I still want Nina). So... in keeping with my current musical ideas... Bass - C'est moi! Vocals - Nina Hagen Drums - Henry Spinetti Guitar - J (Jay Noel Yuenger - White Zombie) Keyboards - Roddy Bottum (Faith No More)
