Another year, another deal with Chris, rather as usual involving swapping the same stuff back to each other! This one involved me acquiring a particularly special old bass; and again as usual nothing was too much trouble for Chris - he made a long train trip from Canterbury to Cambridge and back to make the deal happen. Thanks mate - until next year then!

I'll get me soldering iron out........

Sorry if this is repeating a previous thread - I did a search on speaker impedance and only got more confused! Is it possible to wire up a 4-driver cab, each driver being 8 ohm, such that the net cab impedance is 8 ohm? Cheers! Greg

Just bought a couple of Ashdown cabs off Jim - smooth easy deal, great communications, and he even delivered them to my brother in Hampshire the morning after we agreed the deal Top fella - thanks mate!

Bought a truss rod cover off Simon - easy deal, and always the sign of a top BC-er when they take the same trouble with the small deals as the big ones

Still using my Halfords imperial set bought in 1982, so I can vouch for their longevity........
Has that Explorer bass still not shifted?
Hope you're well Jules, and Lol, no - not even Flyguitars loves Gibson Explorer basses! Think I'm now contending with cetera's Spector Rex Brown sale thread as the longest running, but actually not too sorry as I've rediscovered the Explorer again, as it suits some new band material - it's surprising the extra speed on runs achievable on a medium scale neck compared to my usual long scale
Really Free by John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett. (yes, I know Otway had a second hit 25 years later, but I count that as MY hit, not his )
Saw them play in in Cambridge back in the day, great live act My choice - "Feels like heaven" by Fiction Factory; takes me right back to a particular time in my life

Used to be quite a high profile company; I really wanted a Hamer Explorer like Martin Turner's back in the day Didn't realise Fender had killed them off - damn shame

Went to see Turin Brakes play an excellent gig at Pontardawe Arts Centre last night - the bassist (Eddie Myer) playing some lovely melodic lines, although mixed far too low Got me pondering once more on why the bassist is almost always the coolest looking dude in the band - seems to be the rule for rock and pop, and invariably the case for soul, funk and jazz bands. Just bias on my part? And is it bass attracting the coolest musicians, or does bass transfer coolness on the player, ultimately into a permanent state? Apologies if done on previous threads.....

Excellent latest twist to the story Chris - that bass has your name on it alright! I look forwards to trading it back........

"I thought I was The Fender modding king But I just handed my bitsa crown to him......" Absolutely fabulous - I feel quite inadequate having only one bass project currently on the go (though a couple of other instruments too) That Ric is going to be a monster
That has got to be the worst name for a colour description ever!! Nice looking bass though
A lot better than the alternative "turdglo"! Lovely, good score

I haven't slogged though all 4 pages of this thread, but definitely Simple Minds "New Gold Dream" for me - so many superb others though

'83 Wal Mk 1 for under £2,000 anyone? **SOLD**
Shaggy replied to Beedster's topic in Basses For Sale
Gobsmacked to see this up FS. This was mine for over a year, I had it restored to original spec by Electric Wood (Wal) and can supply the buyer with the invoice for the work done (£1300 worth!), which they did to their usual fabulous standard. Technically not totally original, though on the other hand it's golden era mid-80's Wal - I was told the handwriting on the control panel label was Pete's - but with the benefit of brand new p/ups and preamp, and 100% of the work has been done by Wal. I've played a good few Mk 1 Customs and this is in all honesty far and away the nicest playing and sounding. Can't say I remember it being particularly heavy, though no Wals are light. Only moved it on to Chris as I had the chance on a 1914 Gibson F4 mandolin, that I'd have done anything short of murder to acquire .... I'd predict fairly confidently that this is likely to be the last reasonably priced Wal that we'll see FS anywhere, and I'm currently counting my pennies to see if I can buy it back! -
Just finished building this from scratch from separately sourced components, but I'll post on here rather than the build diaries forum as forgot to take photos of the build. Always fancied a '70's white P for that Sid Vicious / Dee Dee Ramone / Paul Simenon vibe - taken me years to get around to it, but really pleased with the result......

Solid alder body with Oly white finish
One-piece flamed maple neck, Jazz bass width / profile
Lollar vintage spec split P pickup
Celluloid vintage-spec tort pickguard
Solid brass (lacquered) hi-mass bridge, through-stringing
heavy solid brass neck plate and control knobs
Schaller gold tuners
CTS pots / Switchcraft jack / cloth-covered wire circuit with solder-less p/up connections
Tiny bit of touching up to do (old screw holes by bridge) but she's def the new gigging bass!
