    It does seem that a big hit early on does ruin bands. I think they end up afraid to do anything creative after that just in case it doesn't do well. They need to keep the sales up once they've got used to the money, women/men/other and drugs. Like Dave Hedgehog in Bottom said, it's all about birds, booze and budgerigars.

    I would argue the talent point is unfair. He can technically sing, he just does it in a way that sounds so bland. I think that's the problem with Coldplay, they're all decent enough musicians, they just make music that is extremely bland. It's the sonic equivalent of beige.

    Yes, I'm amazing at playing bass because I can do something that isn't a part of playing bass. I'm also an amazing lover because I can change the oil in a car.

    I rarely play guitar and I'm not good at all. Any idiot (including me) can play barre chords.

    It'll be fine as long as there's a roadie with a fire extinguisher and a bucket of sand. Rammstein is one band who need a big stage but their shows are so much more than just music. I think someone whose not in to Rammsteins music could enjoy their shows almost as a theatre show.

    I read something online from a guitarist who said he will respect bassists when he meets one who can play barre chords. I guess 95% of bassists can play them but why would you use them on a bass?

    According to guitarists we're the troglodytes who can't read or write and failed at guitar. Good drummers are definitely not troglodytes or neanderthals but there's a lot more bad drummers than good ones. Singers are odd.

    I think that's the case with a lot of bands/artists. Stadium shows suck no matter who is playing though.

    In my last band, I played a 5 string and the guitarist played a 7 string. During some of my rare trips up beyond the 12th fret I ended up higher than him.

    I saw her at a tiny venue in Bath. Probably 100 person capacity. She was very good but I wouldn't want to see her anywhere much bigger.
