1.
[sup]Shack used to do one where you could reset almost anything you like....right across the range, but you would have to have the back off ..and not something you could/would do mid song so not a sweep as such[/sup] [sup]tbh...It was too much choice and it could get confusing unless you were VERY methodical about your settings.[/sup] [sup]I wouldn't say this was a drop in pre either...[/sup]
Yes I had a Schack bass and tbh the ability to tinker was MAHOOSIVE almost too much as you could get some very weird results... including a whistling feedback! It was a great preamp but I don't think they were available as an after-market!
2. I drove from Northumberland down to Lincoln to buy a motorbike which was described as 'excellent condition'... hand painted over every panel and surface inc' swingarm where it had slid down the road at 30+mph did not constitute 'excellent' in my book and that was virtually a full day wasted travelling to and from! Folks on here can generally be expected to be fairly accurate (at least if they wish to maintain any integrity over time) but the problem is definitions of poor/average/good/mint! Oh and in the very near future I will go into greater detail about sellers not declaring faults that they 'knew nothing about' and what one can reasonably expect to be done to rectify things when it is found that basses have things like duff pups and seized truss rods!
3. No worries, it was a spare with the SONY and would have been used at some point but hasn't been in a laptop for a few years (laptop died years ago). If you take the battery do you want the floppy as a spare or for emergencies (it is a genuine integral SONY part and does go into the actual laptop not an external drive)?
4. Spare battery pack (Sony - PCGA BP71A 14.8v/3000mAh), no idea how often it was charged used and also a slot in floppy drive (i.e. you remove the CD/DVD drive and this fits in the slot). Free if you can collect (NE24) or pay for delivery and I'll post.
5.
Hi. Is this bass still for sale?
I now own it I'm afraid! TBH I don't know if it balances without the frame though that weighs nothing so I'd think so!
6. Got one of these, nice solid reliable tuners.
7.
Use the VU meter and trim it to just less than 0dB. Its what its there for so you trim the input to the optimum level irrespective of passive or active input..
This is the 'Ashdown' VU meter we are talking about... well known for being as much use as a chocolate fireguard!
8. As it happens I have already PMd Dan to let him know that I'll be airing this publicly but I'm not sure what they can do. Ultimately I've given the guy time as he has stated that he has been selling up as he is going through a divorce but I'm still the one sitting with a £900 bass that has a dead E string piezo and a seized truss rod... he is sitting with my £900 in the bank and his sole defence is that it wasn't like that when it left him!
9. You can put passive pups in without any further mod as the preamp is the thing that affects the pot values (I installed Wizards in one of my Infinettes and that had active MEC pups and preamp, no further mod was required). I'm afraid I wouldn't know about the instillation of the JE pre and the affect that would have on existing or replacement pups! Good luck.
10.
fair play john. many wouldn't give someone that much of a chance.
Diplomacy is all used up now! I've tried phoning, emailing and leaving messages/PMs on Basschat and despite some initial contact I think it's time to name and shame. Regardless of the fact that I'll no doubt get tails of divorce and family health problems, people should take time to sort out sh*t like this especially on a £900 purchase.
11. +1 with using whichever sounds best... your ears will tell you if you are driving it too hard and you can then tweak it back.
12.
I didn't realise that but ebay and paypal are the same people aren't they?
They are but they want the least hassle possible so it is correct that you start one dispute and you need to run it through; I go paypal everytime as they don't like the fact that you can get a chargeback from your credit card and they tend to sort it out sharpish.
13.
the real question should be "how much does the Bass Doc charge for one of his masterpieces" Matt
Drop him a PM... I have!
14.
Don't think for a second that ebay 'buyer protection' will do a F'ing thing to help you! I'm stuck in a dispute at the moment over a £400 item which the seller described as 2 years old & as soon as I got it I saw the Date 2007 on it's serial number & the manual! From my experience their customer relations are at zero, it's mind blowingly useless
From my experiences (seen from both sides), paypal will act and sort stuff like this very promptly and they have set timelines by which parties have to act otherwise it gets resolved in favour of the other party.
15. If you paid via paypal he is stuffed! I don't blame you for pushing this regardless of the fact that it is just £14.
16. You seem to be in the same boat as WoT!
17. Do you want my keys player's number to see if he wants to flog that burst PJ that I had a while back?
18. what's with these *ipb* files that everyone is posting? My PC isn't liking those at all or is it some conversion that my browser is doing?
19. Get another 400RB! Honestly! As a former user you are probably well aware that they are cracking amps and punch way above their ratings... in fact if the budget allows get the 800RB.
20.
ok so the cab is rated at 400W RMS and the ampeg is a 450Watt head. How concerned do I need to be about blowing the speakers? Whats the best preventative measure? Less gain? Less master?
Not even something to consider tbh! Have a look at the 'stickie' re ratings etc and you'll get the gist!
21.
And I'll be trying to find them... but my 2x210's walk all over the 2x112's. I wouldn't use them singularly and I love the footprint of the 12's..and also need that at times...and the low end is better, or rather bigger, but that isn't something I need in the context of the band. And I wouldn't say the 2x210's are light in that area anyway..just the 12's are probably bordering on excessive. Where the 10's score massivley is the precision and cut in the higher mids. The 12's don't have this clout..and I'll need to EQ it in..whereas the 10's don't need it..at all. I'll continue to search for single 12's and use them paired and see if I can close the gap, but IMO, it is a BIG gap. Also, to get the kind of bite I want, the 12's can only compete when with a new set of strings..and then the sound is very pleasing..but I can't be doing with liveing up a pr of cabs with strings changes all the time It isn't the low-end that is the problem it is the clarity and definition higher up and both have tweeters as well. . The 2x210 is my fave config..and as close to the 410 sound I prefer without the weight. I consider 2x12 the compromise. One that can work, of course, but a compromise all the same, Basically, I think if you tune the cab too low you suffer elsewhere.
You seem to be making a sweeping generalisation about all 2x10s and all 1x12s! If you are comparing one manufacturer's 2x10 v their own 1x12 there 'may' be a case but even then I'm not sure that rule can be applied.
22. No photos, no bass... them's the rules!
23. T'bird seems to be the 'in thing' at the moment. Even Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick has gone to Lull to get a sig T'bird bass... not one for the slappers!
24.
It isn't a Silver Series either.
LOL didn't even see that!
25.
No idea what you're talking about :-D But thanks!
Among the many (and spurious) figures quoted by the manufacturers, you'll find a sensitivity rating; it could be anywhere from low mid 90s up to about 104+ and is generally expressed in db. However... as with any stats given you need to be careful as they can be quoted as 'continuous' 'broadband' 'peak' etc! A 104db sensitive cab will generally sound a bit louder than a 94 db cab and a 4ohm cab can 'generally' sound louder than an 8ohm cab (blimey this is hard working when you have to make so many caveats), so essentially a 4ohm high sensitivity cab will sound louder with the same given input (though obviously amps are equipped with a magic knob that can make them louder or quieter) than a 4ohm less sensitive cab. Which brings us back to the fact that a sensitive 8ohm cab can sound as loud (with the same given input... following ) as a less sensitive 4ohm cab! Phew!
