I'm in - As I mentioned, the song I have planned all year didn't pan out - but a last-minute choice emerged just in time! Blurb: I was stuck for a song, until this popped into my head - originally just to perform at a local acoustic session. It's old favourite of John Peel. It got a lot of JP plays at the time, but not sure it made much traction outside of his show. But it's stayed with me over the years anyway! The large majority of the time, my thumb is clamping a pick to my finger. Never is my thumb banging the strings slap style. Although I'm happy to pick with no anchor, I feel I need to when attempting finger style. Sometimes I anchor two fingers under the pick up and play with the thumb. But when actually using fingers I anchor by clamping forearm against the body of the guitar while my thumb acts like a spare part. So basically I have not developed any good finger-style technique.

I had a song in mind to cover all year but it never worked out. So I thought I would not be able to enter... but inspiration has struck, and I have track most of the way there 🙂

Or go to a decent tribute band?

My old covers band (punk / new wave) always did one or two at Christmas, just to get into the spirit. People are at covers gigs for fun rather than chin stroking. The odd bit of xmas clothing (hat/shirt) etc goes down OK too.

Napalm Death have no original members, but they still sound like Napalm Death and have maintained the quality. I think when both the members and sound have changed then it's time to stop using the name.

I couldn't name a bass that reflects that period - but I'm not a hardware person as such. I'm not sure the audience will be able to either... I think they could just about do : Violin Bass 60's, P Bass 70's, Cricket Bat 80's.

Amongst Fall fans a number of celebrity Mark E Smith lookalikes have been proposed (Including Richard Madely and Hurrican Higgins IIRC), but the American actor DJ Squalls comes closest for my money:

The producers of DID encourage the islanders to choose their songs based on the latter (important life moments etc) more than the music quality. I had always suspected as much, and in one episode a guest actually alluded to it. My (tongue only slightly in cheek) response to this is to say that discovering my 8 favourite songs are the 8 most important moments in my life!

Saw a Wilko documentory... on the subject of his style/gear/technique/etc the interviewer asked about his pedals. Response: "Pedals? I'm not driving a car!"

Here's my entry. The picture gave me vibes of looping and continuation, so a repetitive bassline and yes it goes on a bit 🙂..... The words (such as they are) came from a bit of word association: Blue Circle > Cement > Concrete > Abstract Finally, the sad death of Keith Levine means I tried to channel some KL/PIL.
