  1. That was my second thought…. How can she sing at the same time!
  2. Stranglers are still sounding great despite JJ getting on, and having the new guys in. See the recent TV gig on the second page of this current thread.
  3. Wow almost missed this in the thread. Amazing stuff. Quite an interesting tone on that guitar, thought it was a bass at first... Same… was impressed at how she played a kind of hybrid bass/guitar line on the six string. But it was good all round though.
  4. Often wondered that myself, never seen a decent explanation.
  5. Didn't think I'd make it his month.... but inspiration and a bit of time came, and here it is. blurb Picture is someone sliding, so I (eventually) thought of slide guitar. I only really use a slide on my cigar box guitar, made with my on fair hands a few years ago. So Cigar box slide it is. Technical details: DAW: Studio One, Drums: mix of Studio one and MT-Power drums, Bass: Vantage Avenger, Guitar: homemade Cigar box guitar - 3 string fretless - Pic below
  6. The Raven was the first LP I bought 'new' too. I'd bought the back catalogue of 3 LPs plus the live LP and loved them as a punk band. The fact that teen-punk me really liked the new album when it was a bit (spit) prog speaks volumes for their talent.
  7. A lot of their early songs, including hit singles, had both a guitar solo and a keys solo (take it Hugh, go Dave 😉)... but I put that down to their pub-rock roots more than prog.
  8. The front is one of my all time favourites. The back is great too of course!
  9. Yes, I understood what you meant... just wondering why you used the word 'Unicorn' to say it?
  10. Fleetwood Mac - back As in "that bass cab was heavy, nearly put my fleetwood out"
  11. Los Bitchos, Bedford. Whole band were great, but especially bass player- great lines and sound.
  12. Question to OP: Is ‘unicorn’ a term in your native youngest for something universal? Or was it a typo or something else?
  13. Apparently when the filmmakers approached the family about the biopic his son (Baxter I presume) said ‘OK but you have got to show what a c*** he could be’ or similar.
  14. Absolutely, while his rhythm guitar did not feature high in the mix his solo and lead work was always really we thought out and mostly avoided pentatonic noodling and the like. In any other band it would have got a lot more attention. Not many could do sardonic and deadpan better than Hugh either.
  15. One of the great unsung personalities of rock IMO.
  16. I like how Dave, unlike the others, decides to make a pretty convincing job the the lead vocal miming.
  17. I also found that cheapos have bad intonation…. even if the open strings are in tune a chord even in first position would sound just wrong.
  18. So why does the OP think it TE and why is it not?
  19. With musicians (plural) it would have been something my first band wrote ourselves… good chance based on one of my own bass lines. with one musician (using the term loosely as we were both learning together) it would have been with my mate and have been a classic walking bass line from a “teach yourself” book. First cover was maybe Blitzkreig Bop.
  20. A highlight for me was when a lone piper was playing in the gallery and then walked away while still playing.... the sound gradually faded to nothing. Very poignant and symbolic of a departed person.
  21. I had the Queen's funeral and procession etc on TV, and couldn't help thinking that the bass drum was mixed a bit high, a bit like modern sound engineers do at rock gigs. But it got me thinking, how is the sound done for music at events like this? For example it has static performances at the church - organ, choir and audience, but also a marching band. Anybody have any insights to how it is done?
