  1. I can't be the only one who feels like this, but there are some bands who, during a certain period, I was so totally 'bought into' I loved every track on those albums... even if there was the odd track that may not stand up alone. For example first 4 Stranglers albums, first 3 Ramones albums, first 3 Velvet Underground albums, first 10-odd years of Fall albums.
  2. An album which springs to mind as an archetypal "All Killer" as generally considered (personally I love the album buts it's never going to make my top ten): Parallel Lines by Blondie Yielded a lot of singles for sure.
  3. That's the best way to have a flawless career. Erm, ignoring The Great Rock and Roll Swindle of course...
  4. Absolutely... no filler, sounds like a greatest hits.
  5. Yes, I do hate it when I see an acoustic ensemble and the bassist is using an unamplified acoustic bass or bass Ukulele. Double bass sometimes ok Unamplified . Wish they would use a battery amp wether it’s an electric or acoustic bass instrument.
  6. Remember, if you ever say that out loud it will be hilariously funny to emphasise the wrong syllables in the words "emphasis" and "syllables"
  7. I can't be the only one who's first thought was 'not even toilet break'? 😀
  8. I felt the same way when I heard that Beefheart drummer Drumbo was going to ressurect the Magic Band without the Captain. But the Magic Band gig I went to was one of my best ever gigs.
  9. I’m by no means a Rory Gallagher fan, but it’s great that Gerry can keep his work alive and bring such joy to the crowd.
  10. Deadletter at Bedford in a couple of weeks
  11. So anywhere between 0.0015 and minus 0.0005 then 🙂? 0.0005 inch is 0.0127mm ..... anyone got frets that low?
  12. People may have certain associations with fretless bass... like lots of glissandos and 'Mwah' sounds, and may not want that in their music. After hearing you play they can hopefully see if what you actually play like suits them.
  13. Ruts DC at Bedford Esquires… it was a one show as they were recording a video there in the afternoon. They were very very good! Support band where spoiled by the sound engineer mixing the drum kit twice as loud as the rest of the band 😡!
  14. I’m presuming you mean second in a list of No-No’s rather than great things! What be the remainder of the top 5 (or 10) then?
  15. Never heard of it before... but have now! Interesting, but it's far above the standards I demand of my instruments, so I'm unlikely to go for it. Anyone know the approximate cost?
  16. I'm pretty sure I'd forget to lock the wheels on those trolleys and go a**e ove t*t
  17. Good voice and good image? Great... but not all you need to be a singer. Go ahead with the gig for the sake of the other guys ..... might be people you want to work with in future. Singer is there for the ride. If you think the singer is up for some feedback then tell him about learning when to come in, rehearsing and all that stuff
  18. I don't think I've been to a jam night as such... the nearest is a) the occasional open mic where a couple of open micer's get up do do an impromptu song together b) folk sessions where peopel join in with each others songs. But a formal Jjm (especially blues) fills me with dread for the following reasons (some of which may be mis-perceptions) Clique-y-ness fear of people not getting a fair 'turn' I don't read music I don't have a good ear for working out chords (but I can improvise to a chord chart) fear of too much 'widdling' fear of failure song selection be too cliched
  19. Whoops... just noticed a typo in my original post... I advised to sell up....... I actually meant to not sell up (as shown in the now-corrected post.
  20. One thing that does my head in about reading is the key signatures. Once I worked out that all the sharps and flats are there only once at the beginning it was a 'this is not for me' moment.
  21. Yes, I was hoping against a GG Allin routine too!
  22. Here's mine: Tube Overdrive Blurb: I've been reading about how Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica LP was made, and listening to a lot of Beefheart. The picture inspired a Beefheart-style wordplay... the musician term Tube Overdrive Vs how someone taking the Tube prefers it Over Driving (a car). Musically I tried to use the same compositional techniques as were used on TMR. Also used some tube overdrive and tunnel reverb on the vox! Technical Notes: DAW Studio One, Drums- Piano roll in Studio One's drum program, Bass: Vantage Avenger, Guitars - Squier Tele, Vox, SM58.
  23. I would not advice selling up. Try a few more routes in music... and worse case keep enough gear to be bedroom player. But keep some kind of gear for the bedroom and if you get an invite to jam or whatever.
