What % of gigs should band members be available for?
Nail Soup replied to Gypsyfolk's topic in General Discussion
For me, missing a gig is only ok occasionally. Iโd expect that a band I was in would do min 90% of gigs with the full main line up. I guess the 10% would be shared out between the members. -
If he doesn't have a gig bag, that could be a good option. Gig bag or a Zoom-style multi effect would be my top two, with cleaning kit quite a long way behind.

Or , further, choose the pickups attached to the bass we like the sound of. Without even knowing how much the pickups contributed to that sound.

Fun Thread , Have You Ever Been Asked For Your Autograph ?

Reminds me of this from David Mitchell -
Let's hope that the radio stations can choose something better - HHSL is totally unrepresentative of his work.
-
Correct! Maybe the original clue alluded more to the Experience.
-
I can only half-remember one clue... goes something like this: Funnily enough he never played there, just the Isle Of Wight (NB - that was the clue that made me get it)

Don't leave that hanging!

Ok, so we're boasting about our 6 music achievements now are we? Good, here I go ! ๐ Couple of comment read out: one Lamaqc (or Lammo as we 6'ers call him ๐) , one Tom Robinson. Won the Marc Riley "Who's on My T-shirt" a few years ago, including an on air chat with Marc. See picture of the shirt ... can you guess who it is? My favourite band is the Fall so it was big moment for me, but a bit embarassing when he asks who my favourite band is. Got selected for a feature on Tom Ravenscroft where you pick two songs from a particular year, plus a significant object from that year in your life. On air interview included - pre-recorded though. Both the songs I chose where ones I first heard on John Peel, so was dreading making some clumsy comment/reference about his dad. (Songs were: "Mind you Own Business by Delta 5, and Heidi's Head by Kleenex)

Remember that he was involved with the early punk scene, so he does have some music credentials outside funk and soul. His Trunk of Punk feature is great! (Trunk of Punk - listener or sometimes a guest chooses 3 punk tracks, daily feature)
-
Same for me..... including folk show, plus R2 Blues show ( presented by yup, Cerys Mathews)
-
I guess you're talking about Chris Hawkins. Yes, he is a bit 'hospital radio', but a lot of listeners eventually warm to him. I his defence he is a good workhorse for the station, often deputising at short notice for other presenters - and he has a good knack (with a gentle style) as an interviewer.

I love 6 music, essential part of my life!

Good idea - weโre all taking pitchforks for the six string traitor, right?
-
Yes indeed it's not very well known, but does deserve the title 'hidden gem'" - if anyone is interested it's "Bloody" by The Golinski Brothers. But things could be looking up for the song.... my 2021 entry to the December covers competition was Goo Goo Muck by The Cramps. It subsequently went viral in 2022 thanks to the hit Addams Family spin-off 'Wednesday' - so maybe "Bloody" could follow?:

What are you listening to right now?

Bob Dylan - Bring it All Back Home album. -
Agreed - show would have been vastly improved by having 100% Ruby-led songs. Although the JH backing vocalist who stepped up for a couple of leads was pretty good too.
-
I usually stick up for the Hootenanny, but this year was very sub-par. Seems like Jools can no longer attract artists. I thought Cat Burns would have been good in the context of a normal Later, but didn't really have a 'NYE party' vibe. Really can't see the appeal of George Ezra .

Thatโs nothing compared to the detour into the definition of sanity.
-
To paraphrase Harry Hill: My dad always said that the definition of insanity is repeating the same action and expecting a different result. That's why he got sacked as a psychiatrist.

I'm in - As I mentioned, the song I have planned all year didn't pan out - but a last-minute choice emerged just in time! Blurb: I was stuck for a song, until this popped into my head - originally just to perform at a local acoustic session. It's old favourite of John Peel. It got a lot of JP plays at the time, but not sure it made much traction outside of his show. But it's stayed with me over the years anyway! Tech stuff: DAW: Studio One, Bass: Vantage Avenger, Guitar: Vox Standard 25, Keys: Studio One basic keys via MPK Mini controller, Vox: Sure SM58

The article contains links to about 5 other artists who tried to stop Trump using their songs... You'd think he'd get the message being the sensitive type he is!

Didn't see a Bass Ukulele in there ๐ ... but I have very modest needs so I'll go for a cheap and cheerful:
-
The large majority of the time, my thumb is clamping a pick to my finger. Never is my thumb banging the strings slap style. Although I'm happy to pick with no anchor, I feel I need to when attempting finger style. Sometimes I anchor two fingers under the pick up and play with the thumb. But when actually using fingers I anchor by clamping forearm against the body of the guitar while my thumb acts like a spare part. So basically I have not developed any good finger-style technique.

I had a song in mind to cover all year but it never worked out. So I thought I would not be able to enter... but inspiration has struck, and I have track most of the way there ๐
