1. My cute little TH350 has arrived, rehearsal at the weekend so I'll get a better idea of how it sounds but on first listen at low volume I'm loving the sound with a little drive dialled in with a P bass. I bought it as a rehearsal amp and backup as it's so small it can live in the pocket of my gig bag. Anyone been using one of these 'in anger' yet? 2. Thank goodness you're in Surrey otherwise I'd be looking to empty my bank account Lovely bass... cant believe it's still here at that price!
3. I used to have that very combination of 121p and NY121 - it's a fantastic rig - enjoy!
4. Not sure how much help i can be but, I've had a MarkBass rig with MarkBass cabs (121p with 121NY cab), MarkBass head (SD1200) with Barefaced cabs (midget and compact) and now RH750 with Berg AE212. If you want my opinions on any of those combinations I'm happy to oblige but to be honest it's all subjective and dependent on ones own playing style, bass, type of music etc. as to what suits best. Based on what you've said though, I wonder whether you should look at a different cab before you change your amp. You mention Berg or Barefaced cabs, and either of these should be a significant upgrade over your current Ashdown cab and may better suit the amp you already have.
5. Hi All posting this for a friend - R.E.M. tribute act REMUK are needing a bass dep for this Saturday 9th, if you are up to speed with the REM repertoire please drop me a P.M. This is a bit of a long shot as they will need to know by tomorrow really or else have to cancel the gig, but you never know who's out there! Cheers Martin
6. I'm way too old to be of any use to them but just wanted to say how much i enjoyed the song and the video Martin
7.
Yeah I was going the cloth route - green for me, cos its the new black darling. That ae212 looks ace , and its certainly at the "right height" standing on the hop up isnt it!
Yep, I think it will do nicely, - plus I can put covers and gear bags etc underneath out of the way.
8. My MIJ 57 bought last year from a fellow Basschatter, now with a few mods, such a comfy bass to play.
9. here's my AE212 sitting on one to give some idea of what it looks like - for the stage a bit of black cloth draped over should hide its obvious DIY lineage.
10. My hop-up arrived this morning so i shall try it out this sunday - sadly this now leaves me with no excuse not to finish the hallway ceiling!!
11. That hop-up is just what i've been looking for, will do for the diy plus raise the cab at gigs - brilliant! Thanks for posting it 51m
12. 2 X 12 cab here plus 1X10 for practice
13. If money is not a huge problem then I say go for it, - and you'll be contributing to the British economy + as someone mentioned earlier they tend to keep their value better than boutique or custom build basses, should you need to off-load it. Best (or i should say most playable and comfortable) bass i've ever had was a Status S2 Classic 6 string headless, only parted with it as I just didn't need a high C and I love my Fenders now...although they are pretty agricultural by comparison.
14. Yo Rich, Martin here from LSH days, hope you're doing well and a Happy New Year to you. Very nice bass! To anyone looking to buy and cautious about buying from newbies I know Rich and can vouch for him as a good bloke! Cheers Martin
15. Seeing Alex's response makes me think you'd actually do very well with a Barefaced Midget T if money's no object. It's small light and can go very loud if you need it for gigging, I used to have a Midget along with Barefaced Compact and inadvertently did a pub gig useing just a Midget (I forgot to plug the Compact in!)... handled it no problem!
16. I recently bought an EBS neo110 cab from a fellow basschatter which is proving excellent for low volume hifi sound. I'm using it with my TC electronics RH750 head but I would imagine any of the current crop of micro amps would work well, the new TC electronic BH250 amp springs to mind or perhaps a GK MB200. The Epifani 110 might also be a good choice, in short I think small quality cabs are probably the way forward ... oh and PJB cabs would be worth a look. cheers Martin
17. Bollington/Macclesfield Bass player available Hi all I’ve just moved to the area and am looking for a band. I’m in my late 40’s and have been playing bass for many years and in bands for the past 5 years or so. Previous bands have all been covers bands playing functions and pubs with the usual repertoire covering songs from 60’s to the present day. I’m a fast learner (though not sight reader) and have plenty of gigging experience, good gear and transport. If you are looking for a bass player and in the Macclesfield and surrounding area I’d love to audition for you. Cheers Martin
18. I have 2 basses with j retro's in and would echo what others have said, keep the wizards and be amazed by the way in which John East's electronics just make everything sound better! You'll probably find the mid sweep alone will enable you to get a very modern sound if you want it. I recently replaced the pre in my Fender 2010 jazz deluxe and although the difference is not dramatic as the Fender preamp in the latest deluxe models is actually quite good, having the mid sweep and proper active pickup pan make it a very effective upgrade. Cheers Martin
19. It's sometimes worth trying a counter intuitive approach - want more authority in the bass? Roll off the bass and turn up the overall volume... It's very easy to get into a cycle of increasing low mids then high mids and you end up with a very boomy or nasal sound. It all depends on the character of your rig to start with but might be worth a try.
20.
There is a high-pass filter acting below 100Hz on these amps and the response is 6dB down at 40Hz. Whether you can hear it and whether it bothers you is obviously another matter. However, it's good to be aware that it's there, as no other bass amp manufacturer does this as far as I'm aware.
'Fire in the hole!!!!!' lol
21. Well this is one of the things I love about this amp is I can leave my pedal board at home. I ended up buying the foot switch and its great, you have the tuner/mute and channel switching right there at your feet, makes life so simple and neat. Because I play mainly pubs and am in a 4 piece, any room you can free up by not have stuff around your feet is a real bonus!
22. From my experience of MB stuff I imagine it will go very nicely with the MarkBass cabs, I'm using my RH750 with a Berg AE212 and I have to EQ a fair bit of bass out, but I think the MarkBass cabs might be a better initial pairing. It'll be interesting to hear how you get on. I also found the compressor to be very good as it does what you expect without having to fiddle with a dozen parameters which for a simpleton like me is a major plus!
23. I don't need another amp and I'm perfectly happy with mine....but...and I know this is shallow....I think this is the nicest looking amp out there...and it would look so good on my Berg 212 which just happens to be the same width....must look away now..
24. For all your cableing (is that a word) needs OBBM, I also got him to make me a cable for my wireless transmitter as the standard one was pants.
