  2. So, I got a 2006 Warwick fretless thumb 5 a few months back and I thought I might treat it to some lovely new strings for christmas. Now, this is where things get complicated. As far as I can understand it Warwick 5-ers up to 2006 will only take a tapered B string as with Warwick's own strings....but Warwick don't make flatwounds. So I'm trying to work out what brand of string has made it on to my bass somewhere along the line. They've got red end thread - does anyone have any idea whether I can narrow down on that basis or if there's anything else I can do to work out what brand they are?

Thanks everyone for the replies, I was a little sceptical about GAK before I went down there based on various comments but I got there and fell completely in love with the Thumb BO fretless 5 they had in there and walked away with it (hance why I've been far too busy this week to reply). The staff couldn't have been more helpful
  10. Hi, I'm currently GASing for a Warwick thumb bolt on and looking to demo one. I phoned GAK today but they said they didn't have any in stock, but I'm just a bit conufsed as to whether that applies to both the mail order and shop, or just the mail order. Does anyone have any ideas...or has anyone been into the GAK store lately who might have seen a Thumb BO there (or anywhere else in the south) ? Thanks!
  11. I tend to think that the instrument is completely irrelevant, the bassline is the important thing, regardless of what it's played on
  12. It is annoying...everyone seems to think I should get a better car but to be honest mine gets me from A to B perfectly well, anything on top of that is just to have a fun 'toy' to play with...and I'd rather spen dmy toy money on basses!

Having been through this recently I was re-ignited after see one of my all time favourite bands live and last night I someone had really pissed me off and i can't remember the last time i had so much fun rocking out and venting my anger...so perhaps have a few days off, and find someone who annoys you ?

I always think this sort of thing is sort of a non-debate...to me, there's room for everything and I might not always chose to listen to every type of playing, but ultimately I'd rather there was more diversity out there, and I can appreciate most types of playing. I'm glad that all these musicians do their own thing and play what they want rather than playing what anyone else tells them they should.
  15. so the deal is I used to play a lot, but over the last year or so, work has kicked into over drive and I've let my bass playing slip (I know, I should be shot!) So I'm now making effort to try and clear away some time to play, but I'm just tstruggling to get back into playing - I just keep getting frustrated because I'm even worse than I ever was before. Has anyone got some ideas for instantly fun things I can learn ?(I'm essentially starting from scratch here)
  16. Hi, I was hoping someone might be able to offer some advice with an issue I'm having... Essentially, I tend to do my home practice through my PC...so that's: Bass > Bass POD XT > M-Audio Delta 44 Now, I've recently moved to a different PC, from one with an Audiophile 2496. I have 2 basses, and Ibanez DWB3 and Ibanez SR905. Since moving to the new soundcard, I'm finding I can hardly hear the SR905 at all, and to do so I have to turn everything way up on the bass/POD, which looses all tone and is still registering as high input on the soundcard, causing some distortion (and it's still not that loud). So when I'm playing with guitar at the same time it's completely inaudible. However, I think that the DWB3 has a very high level of output (at least it's always seemed to when I have had the opportunity to play it with another bass through the same amp) and although this isn't quite as loud as I like in comparison to the guitar, it's useable. Given that this is the case, it would suggest to me that it's a problem with the soundcard rather than the SR905. I know this is pretty vague, but does anyone have any ideas how I can get around this...I'm getting to the end of my tether with it as I'm barely practicing as a result. Thanks in advance for anything you can suggest!
  17. While all the solo type stuff isn't exactly my cfavourite style of bass playing, I also think there's a place for everything and let's face it, that kind of stuff is far more visually interesting. Hence why youtube is likely to be dominated by that sort of thing

I'm struggling at the moment, after just buying my first house and adjusting to working away from home half the week, I've really let my playing slip and I'm now really struggling to get the motivation to just play...but I've lost all ability and need to get something back before looking for anyone to jam with

In one word: "s***e" In more detail: Female, 23, been playing 3 years...or maybe 4...+several on g****r before that I like anything that's remotely metally/jazzy, I wouldn't want to give anyone the insult of describing them as an influence of mine and I guess I have a slight preference for 5 strings

As Alun has said, a polyrhythm, is more like...say you've got one part in 4/4 and another part that's 5/4...but you squish that 5/4 into the 'space' of that 4/4 bar, so that they each repeat after the same length of time (so theoretically, that "5/4" is really like haveing 5/5 notes if that makes sense)..that would be a 5:4 polyrhythm I like to think of it like this [font="Courier New"]1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + [/font] See how both patterns repeat at the same point?
