1. Metal + fretless makes me happier than anything
2. I love them with a passion . Always loved the look and dreamed about having gone, long before I ever played one. From the moment my fingers touched my Thumb BO5 fretless, it was love. It just fits. I got its fretted twin a few years back and seriously haven't lusted after anything since. They are just for me
3. Thanks for the feedback Steve, really helpful!
4. After having had work completely dominate my life for the last couple of years, and destroy my musical output, E made a decision a couple of weeks ago to gwt back into playing more. Ihave had my first bit of musical inspiration in ages...the trouble is, I've got a half idea and I'm really not sure whether it's really worth progressing, or whether it's just that my standards have dropped so much! I'm really hoping for some thoughts and feedback (purely a guitarpro export at this point, and please excuse my hideous attempts at adding drum tracks, but it sounds really lacking without!) https://soundcloud.com/cloudconstructor/mightystorm Thanks!
5. I have always been fascinated by rhythm, and I always loved the sound of the bass, but started on guitar when I was 13 because it was cheaper, and my friend started playing drums so at the time, it seemed more essential than bass. A few years later, I taught my now husband to play guitar, and picked up an old bass around the same time, started messing about to accompany him and fell in love (with both him and the bass, haha!). Haven't looked back since 1) Just loving the bass, and thinking its the best instrument 2) Ryan Martinie. That guy still blows my mind, and the start of my obsession with Warwicks, that resulted in me being financially lacking, but the proud owner of my twin Thumbs 3) Seeing the (I now realise rather cheesy) Stu Hamm solo on the satch DVD. When I first started, I was at the stage on guitar where I was progressing a lot technically and here I was, pretty inept at bass, but still not wanting to play boring root notes. That was my first thing I aimed at being able to play
6. Haven't got 10 in my head, in no particular order Jaco Pastorius Geddy Lee Ryan Martinie Sean Malone Lars K Norberg Steve DiGiorgio Joe Lester Tony Levin
7. No, I'm not trying to locate a missing copy of the Mel Gibson movie. I've just come to these boards for the first time in a long time, but it has really helped me reconnect with bass this morning. My job essentially went completely mental and I have been managing like 30mins max bass per week for the last 18 months. This has meant that when I do play, I'm even more crap than I ever was and it just isn't enough time to fuel a desire to play. I am determined to change this. My job's not going to get any better any time soon, but I need to start making some time for something I enjoy. While that's not bass right now, last night's drunken rock out has reminded me how much I used to love it. So, my plan, in embryonic form right now, is to start waking out some small bits of playing time, use my time stood at the station every day to catch up on these boards and try and refuel my passion. Anyone got any other tips?
8. Awesome, thank you! Great band, great bass player and any interview that references 22, thus feeding my uncontrollable obsession, is alright in my book!
9. Selling this baby as I'm now working crazy hours and barely get time to play bass anymore, let alone piano so it's just a waste of space. Specs are here: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/musical-instruments/keyboards/digitalpianos/clp_series/clp311/?mode=model I'm in Portsmouth and would need someone to pick up as it's a big heavy beasty and while my Hyundai Getz is a bit of a tardis, I think this might just beat it! It's in really good condition - just needs someone to play it instead of gathering dust. Looking for £250
10. So my current PC is really getting to that stage of slowing down considerably, and given that - since the day I bought it with Vista, it's obviously been a pain - I think it's got enough life left in it to keep it as our internet machine - got a little bit of unexpected income I'm thinking of getting a new computer purely for musical purposes. So the plan is to go with a laptop, as it means that me and my other half have the option to sit and work on really dull copying of programmed drums/laying out time sigs etc. and can make progress on all that boring stuff while we sit and chat in front of the tv So at the moment, we're toying with the new Macbook Pro, or a PC (a whole separate debate as to whether we can really justify such a huge additional cost for the Mac), and I was hoping you good folks could give me some feedback on the spec we're looking at for ideas as to whether this is a good option. So main uses: - we've got a line 6 toneport ux-2 which is used for daily just playing/jamming etc - composing stuff in GuitarPro (so essentially, we lay out all of our songs here first) - with the view to making some decent recordings of the several years worth of compositions we've got. This will include a fair few virtual instruments etc (I've yet to find a reliable drummer who can cope with loads of time sigs and I like adding in synth stuff etc) We're currently using Cubase Essential 5, with the view to changing when budget allows Proposed spec: Processor (CPU) Intel Core i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-740QM (1.73GHz) 6MB Cache Memory (RAM) 8GB SAMSUNG 1333MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (2 x 4GB) Graphics Card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 - 1GB GDDR3 Video RAM - DirectX® 11 Hard Disk 500GB WD SCORPIO BLACK WD5000BEKT, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16MB CACHE (7200 rpm) Thanks!
11. Being a simple soul, my approach is usually: Start with everything flat Usually end up with plenty of mids, bass a bit lower, treble even lower and that basic pattern will depend on the circumstances
12. Having just sold a Roland drum kit to silddx with absolutely no hassle, I can definitely say he's a pleasure to deal with, honest and his ability to krypton factor a lot of gear into a small car is simply mind-blowing, thanks!
13. Hi, I'm selling my amp, purely because I'm no longer playing live so it's just sitting in my spare room not getting used. Hartke 3500 Mosfet Head - 350w, 10 band EQ, passive & active inputs. I'm not sure how old this is, but it's served me well and is in full working order. Comes in a Rockcase rack case Ashdown MAG 1x15 - in mint condition, again, it's serverd me really well, but I'm just not getting the use out of it so it's got to go Ideally, I'd like to sell them both together, and arranging some sort of pick up (I'm based in Portsmouth) £200
14. Hi, I've got a Roland TD-3KV electronic drum kit for sale. It's essentially this kit: http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/2928...d-td-3kw-p.html The only difference is that the link is for the TD-3KV +P...I'm not sure what the +P part is but I can't seem to spot any difference from the listed specs. It'd basically brand new, literally just been used the once (bought to hold band practices at our house almost immediately before my last band's demise). It's all boxed, with instructions etc. Pics here http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b398/fra...oland%20TD-3KV/ It's about to go on ebay, but worth a shot on here first. I'm looking for £400 (open to offers) Cheers,
15. Hi, I've got 2 tickets for Herbie Hancock at the Southbank Centre on Saturday Nov 13th but unfortunately I can't make it. I'm looking for face value £35 each (front row of balcony) Cheers,
16.
You could stencil a large F on one case for fretted and a large F for fretless on the other one. Wait a minute......
Sounds like a perfect plan to me... thanks everyone...I'm actually liking the keyring idea, just need to find something suitable classy
17. Hi, I'm looking for some bright ideas from the undoubted genius of Basschat members.... I've got 2 identical cases for my fretted and fretless twin thumbs and I'm trying to think of a decent way to distinguish the cases (without stickers - sticking out like a saw thumb - pardon the pun! I want something relatively subtle as the whole point is I wanted them in matching cases) Has anyone got any ideas? Thanks!
18. ok, you've really not helped to fuel my addiction, going to Sutton too now - this is going to be a good weekend!
19. I'm going to Ronnie Scott's on Saturday - third time of seeing Holdsworth and I'm just as excited this time as the first time!
20. Hi, I'm selling my Ibanez SR905. I bought new in 2005, it's only been gigged once and in perfect condition apart from one small ding above the neck pickup (see pics - the bluck guitar pick is pointing to it) Features (from the Ibanez catalogue): - 5pc Maple/Bubinga thru-neck - Figured Maple Wing Body - Medium frets - Accu-Case B25 bridge (16.5mm string spacing) - Bartolini MK1 Neck & Bridge Pickups - Bartolini MK1 - 3-band EQ More pics are here Ibanez Pics I'm selling because of a couple of new additions to my bass family and unfortunately this one's going to have to go to make room. I'd prefer not to post, so ideally looking to arrange pickup/collection (I'm in Portsmouth, but if you're interested, let me know where you are and we'll see if we can work something out) I'm looking for £400
21. I am sooooo with you on Road Games
