1. That sounds like an extremely kind offer I can't refuse. Although, if they are pointless, it would save you the postage! How do they work, exactly?
2. I believe there are various gizmos that can speed up winding strings when changing them, although I don't think I've seen one that is designed for a bass (then again I haven't looked that hard). Are they worth bothering with? If so, any particular recommendations?
3. This post cannot be displayed because it is in a forum which requires at least 1 post to view.
4. Devil's advocate here. Is it worth spending the money? What is the total spend to do this upgrade (including new pups), and how would that compare with buying one that already has a similar spec? Could you get like for like, even secondhand, or does this really give you a standout instrument? Just curious. Totally agree about individual variation. When I was buying my main bass I tried everything on the wall and, despite my mind and wallet telling me I wanted a Squier, none came up to scratch compared with MIA Jazz or, what I ended up with, the MIJ Jaguar. But the Squier VM fretless Jazz I have (currently for sale - shameless plug) is a diamond.
5. Add the 151 to the comparison and I'll be glued to this thread too.
6. Sorry - I have too many as it is, otherwise I would probably keep it.
7. Hi Jim No decal and no batteries (but do active pups need batteries? I know pre-amps do . I have no idea) Anyway, here is a pic: And here is another dink I didn't take a pic of:
8.
Rhythm Stick is awsome...wonderfull bass line..i could listen to it all day...fairly simple really, those 16th's over changes are the bugger...awsome bass player...
Awesome is right. i saw The Blockheads again last Saturday at Edmonton. The guy is a legend. I am trying to get to grips with it using a pick - no way could I move my fingers that quickly - it is neither easy nor sounding correct. Also trying to learn Muse's 'Hysteria' and am still at the stage where my fingers seem intent on trying each other into knots when doing the passage in E - you know the bit when it bounces between the open E, 12th fret E and the G on the A string. Should I stick to Status Quo?
9. As they were in stock and I didn't want to hang around for the La Bellas I bought D'Addario Chrome flats, 50-105. One set will go on a bass with regular tuning, the others will be detuned to E# - basses are similar so it should be a decent comparison. I'll report back when I get them back from the set up/clean as to how the detune affects tension etc.
10. not so long back these were going before the seller had even finished typing... BUMP!!
11. For sale my FrankenFender p-bass in glossy black, black scratch plate, maple neck, gold hardware, EMG pickup. All quality fittings and nicely put together. I bought it in August last year from fellow basschatter Davetbass - here is the thread. Put together nicely from quality bits - I believe the neck is Mighty Mite. No idea what the body started life as. There is a cheeky Fender JAzz decal on the headstock - neck is jazz skinny but a tad deeper than my Jaguar. It looks magnificent. It plays and sounds just like you would expect. Generally it is in great condition -some buckle rash at the back, the front is largely blemish-free. There is a dink on the bottom end I have tried to picture. The finish at the rear base of the neck has been removed at some stage - I guess when fitting. The EMG pickup sounds great, though the output does seem less than my Jaguar bass. No idea if this is what you would expect but I thought I would mention it. I need to turn the amp up a tad to get the same volume, but when I do it performs nicely. I bought it as a back up bass but have been well and truly bitten by the inscrutable Matsumoku bug and just bought a JapCrap one for this purpose - this has to go. I would like £175 - if you come and pick it up from Benfleet in Essex that is what it would cost. Posted in a sturdy box and sent via Parcelforce 48 it would be £190. I have a tweed Fender-a-like hard case I don't require - posted in that would be £205. Collected in that £190. 12. For Sale, my Squier VM Jazz fretless. I bought it around 6 months ago from fellow Basschatter Lateralus462 (Chris) - here is the thread. I put some Rotosound 'TruBass' black nylon flats on it which, to my ears, made a large improvement. It is in exceptionally good nick - I won't say 'As New' - there's a tiny bit of rash on the back but you have to search for it and no dinks I am aware of. Chris put a granite effect scratch plate on it, which I have kept on. Like it or not it is there and, if removed, would leave some holes. I took it to one rehearsal, played it at home half a dozen times and it has been sat in a gig bag apart from that. There is nothing I need to say about these - generally considered to be the best value for money fretless you can get and one of the jewels in the Squier crown. But not for me. I play in two rock covers bands and am unlikely to ever use it so it is a waste. I am looking for £160 - what I paid but I put new strings on it and some fuel to get it. If you come here (Benfleet) and pick it up that is what it will be. Add £15 for Parcelforce 48 delivery in a sturdy box and well padded. I have a tweed Fender-a-like hard case I want shot of, either with this, with my other bass or on it's own - if you want me to post it in that add £30. (Or, if you want to collect it in the hard case add £15) Payment either cash on collection or Paypal. Here are some pics:
13.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Westone-Thunder-1-A-...=item4aa0427ef0 Westone body. Not sure if it's likely to be useful for anyone.
I've just started watching that, as it happens. If it goes for next to nothing I might have a tickle at it for spares as I eventually found the decent Thunder 1 A bass I was looking for. Or, more precisely, it found me. And I had just bought the Thunder Jet that came up on eBay, too - my Japcup runneth over this week! The Scavenger has a day to go with no bids - could be a bargain.
14.
That's really nice. I wish I could afford it!
Maybe you can now? Bump for a price drop.
15.
The only live album I regularly listen to (to my wifes horror), is Humble Pie at the Filmore East.
+1 for that one. Brilliantly atmospheric. But bands can vary from performance to performance, can't they? Taking Deep Purple as an example 'Made In Japan' is, for my taste, just about the perfect live album. But if you listened to any of the other live performances from that era you'd get a pretty mixed bag. But the sound (and arrangements) on Made In Japan are, for me, way better than the studio sound on Machine Head in particular. Ditto Wishbone Ash - studio stuff sounds a little weak and wishy washy, 'Live Dates' is up there with the best - powerful and melodic (that reminds me - add Ted Turner's guitar solo in 'The King Will Come' to best guitar solo thread - that wahwah!!).
16. Hmm, never straight forward is it. A bonus is that the D'Addarios 50-105 are in stock... but they aren't really cheap enough to start experimenting with on a whim. Just a thought - when I bought my Scavenger bass it was already strung with some gorgeous but quite heavy and stiff flats - they are still on there and a different feel entirely to the TI Jazz flats. They have black silk at the business end and a brass ball at t'other end - would this be a clue as to what they are?
