1.
(or sitting down in the bus, on a seat still warm from the previous occupant).
The correct name for that situation is a "Shoeburyness"
2. When I left the band I'd been playing bass with for 13 years (in order to move to France) I flew back three times to dep on drums. All good fun. However, I later found out that when my sax playing brother also left the band, due to musical differences he was told, in the heat of the moment, that they were glad I'd gone as I was so "down" on the performances and always "going on" about wanting it to be better I never mentioned this to any of the band after it came out as we were all old friends. However, I did get to see them at a pub gig 3 years ago when they were going through their "we want to play real music to real people" phase I walked in the pub in Brentwood, lead guitarist's big moment (Sweet child o mine) see's me, and starts the intro like he's had Les Dawson's hands transplanted on an hour before. I stayed for the whole gig, catching up with old mates. On my return to France, I had an e-mail accusing me of having given the guitarist "a look" and raising an eyebrow, and maybe it would be better if I didn't go to any gigs in the future when visiting the UK. I'll be the first to admit that can get on someone's case when things are bad but I don't mean cock-ups. They happen to everyone. Good nights and bad nights. That's live music, but what I can't stand is a "that'll do" attitude when it won't do. Members obviously trying learn a number in the car because they haven't bothered since messing up at last rehearsal. I'm no Marcus Miller but I know what sounds bad and that if you're being paid, you have a duty to the public and to your band mates to execute it all to the best of your ability. I have no problem with playing for fun with mates and it sounding crap if having a laugh is the only intention. Take someone's money, and it all changes for me. Anyway, haven't seen them since.
3.
The other is that the more I play the less I give a sh*t about my instruments and buying new ones. As long as it looks good, feels good, and is reliable and well made, then that's enough.
That there +1
4. Glad I watched that. Apart from being extremely interesting, I can rest easy now as I was quite fearfull that he'd have a Welsh accent
5.
If he is putting in the hours for practice but still making errors then he needs to work out some form of crib sheet, even if it's a few notes on the setlist. Something like: I, V, C, V, C, B, C, S, C. Could be enough
Ha, you can talk.. you forgot there's a double chorus at the end
6. Got rid of the 2 Eden rigs (a 500w head + 4x10 and a 300w 2x12 combo) and the Mark bass 103 combo due to weight and size. Now use a Genz 6.0 combo + 12T ext. HEAVEN!!
7. When you admit you'd been thinking about it for a while, it means it's really a done deal and there's no going back. It can get postponed but usually ends with the same result. I think you've done the right thing. Best for you and best for your old bands. It's not as if you don't have anything to do now so just enjoy the remaining band.
8. I usually find it depends on wherever, whatever twat of a keyboard player we've got sets up. It usually works out like this (can't do a pie chart) 30% of stage = keyboards, various monitors / stands 25% of stage = guitar rig, 2 spare guitars and associated floor spaghetti 25% of stage = drum kit with at least 2 unnecessary drums and 2 extra completely crap cymbals for "the look" 15% of stage = vocalists mic stand and array of water bottles, song sheets on floor, throat sweets and sprays 5% of stage bassplayer, with headstock stuck up in air
9. Brilliant. Not one cut-away acoustic in sight and some guitars supplied with "waterproof cover" Classic stuff.
10. Good luck with that.. that...that...that....that....that.....
11. The first actual protest singer. A great talent.
12.
"playing the jazz neck" - never heard it called that before
Yup, a sore palm is very common after playing a jizz neck
13. Sorry, I meant this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRBE06gR6KY
14. Yes, there are some really beautiful songs out there. I wish I'd written this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGdI7CXZUXc

16. Any good for metal?
17.
DP...... Digital Performer......
Not in my world it isn't
18.
You know that doing the same thing twice and expecting a different result the second time is a sign of insanity?
It would appear so as the two mistakes were an outlay of £2,600 Still, a worthwhile lesson. Just because it has one "the" names, doesn't mean etc etc...
19. Great band live. Saw them at Wembly. A huge gig with Fleetwood Mac, JethroTull and River City people. Hall & Oates and Tull left the rest of them for dead.
20. Yep, done that a few times however, I'm more stupid than most since I actually bought the same model a 2nd time thinking it would be great (it wasn't)
21. Why not just get one of these? but if you have to change basses, put all the Jazz numbers together and the Precision numbers together. I change basses rarely and only if it's an absolute must. I don't really think it helps the flow of the performance and can look a little unpolished.
22. I know the body woods are the "making a statement" bit but apart from that, I like the bass in general. Nice shape.
23. And one of the true masters of the Harp guitar. A really sad loss to music. I think he had so much more to offer. The guy was a genius.
24.
I really am not sure what's going on, but I'm scared. I've started listening to Jazz recently, and I have been enjoying it. I blame my boss. He's a jazz musician. I know what's going on! The Jazz agenda is being promoted from those within the circle to incite new recruits! On a serious note - how far into the vast genre of Jazz does Air lie? Probably pretty tame, right? Well, I've been listening to Air a lot recently. They have some seriously good songs, and are clearly very talented musicians - an aspect of Jazz which nobody could deny. Are they a "gateway" [s]drug[/s] band?
