3. I'm gigging with 2 loud guitars and a thumping drummer. Love playing my J, but after 2 years & several pick-up swaps, I just couldn't ever seem to get it to sit right in the mix. I'm back to my P with a Squier Jag as a backup.
4. My first "proper bass" - different wood combo, but always liked the neck on these. Sold many years ago - would like to think it's still giving someone some pleasure.
5. Bass highlights.... Mani (Primals), chap from the Kaiser Chiefs and the chap from the Eels (including the beard!).
6. + 1 for GuitarGuitar (London) Epsom - massive range of gear - certainly more basses than all of Denmark Street put together. It's 30mins by train from Waterloo and 5 mins walk from the train station - but sadly the London Underground tube don't run that far out to the sticks (of London.....).
7.
This has single coils, the previous one I owned had humbuckers. I would say the best way to get a taste for the tone is to check out the lakland website clips (which are actually from a Skyline model, not a USA one even though the webpage infers it) Lakland Decade sound clips
Thanks - had a listen - sounds quite full and rounded to me. I'm getting more of a Gibson than a Fender vibe (massive generalisation I know). How do you think it would sit with two noisy guitarists and a full on rock and roll drummer? (curiosity mildly piqued!)
8. Pleasantly surprised by the new flagship London (!) GuitarGuitar store in Epsom. Lots and lots of nice stuff (Laklands, Sadowsky's, higher end Fenders) in amongst the usual Squiers (nothing wrong with them mind) and Mexi-Fenders. Worth a look if you're passing by... think there's more basses in this store than there are in the whole of Denmark Street. And altho' the prices are tad on the sharp side (i.e bricks and mortar prices) it's great to get access to many makes and models that don't normally get much shelf space locally.
9. That's loverly but I'm a tad confused.... the pickups on this one - are they single coils or humbuckers? Not having played one, would you say it thumps like a P or does it have more of the cuttiing edge of a J-bass.... or something else?
10.
£350 ono Dan.
Hi - did you end up selling this?
11.
..... all necks are C shape and all fingerboards have a 9.5 radius these days but then I saw this 'American Special' thing with a 'unique feature' in the form of a new 'slim', fast action neck. What is that all about? Is it really noticeable? Sounds interesting. Or is it just some go-fast-stripes marketing bull? Can you share any experiences?
The neck on the one I tried recently felt ever so slightly shallower than a normal P-neck. Probably a bit "squarer" if that makes sense. Have to admit though the (factory) set up didn't do it any favours. +1 on the "not worth £800" comments
12. Lovely - is that Olympic White or a more standard white?
13. ah! consider me enlightened.... made by Shed... in a shed... how does it sound compared to the stock Squier pups? (do you still have 'em - just in case?)
14.
Hey there would you be interested in a swap for a Peavey Grind 5 String? Thanks
Hi - did this go in the end?
15. Hi, I need to replace one of the pots shown in the attaced pic. I think it's a 250k/250k stack pot - but the majority of options seem to be 250k/500k. Anyone know where I can get a better quality replacement (the volume knob spins freely right now). Also - what is that little red thing 2A503J (i'm a complete novice when it comes to electrics). Will I need to move that across? Many thanks.
16.
I found this on Talkbass EDIT: Just realised the questions were identical
Thanks - twas me.... guilty as charged!
17. Hi - I want to try series wiring my J-bass, however don't want to have to install a switch right now. Have had a hunt around and most seem to include adding a push-pull switch... which I don't want to do right now. It's a US Fender with Seymour Duncan 1/4 pounders if that helps. Has anyone got a wiring diagram (or can anyone point me to a link with a wiring diagram) for this? I'm a novice solderer, so simple as poss would be fab. Many thanks
18. Hi - I'm trying to find replacement speakers for my 1980's Loco Micro Bass Amp. It's got 2 x 6.5", 8ohm speakers, one of which has developed a buzzy vibration. Any suggestions on suppliers would be gratefully accepted. Cheers Zig
