These little b****rs cost about $22 a pair to import from British Audio in the US. I need a green one, so I've done a trial 3D printed one, with layers 0.05mm (0.002") high. Unfortunately it's blue, but it looks a lot smoother than the picture with such thin layers, it cold be tidied up a bit and polished. I've ordered some green PLA and I will print another one with 0.025mm layers which is as close to injection moulding as I can get. The white dots appear to be painted on.

That's not just a bass, it's a biography!

Geddy's Lee's Big Beautiful Book of Bass

Many thanks, , of course the really interesting thing now is 'what are the other 80 basses' and the Fender outliers and oddities' 🙂 -
You mean the old technique of going on a pub crawl round town and handing out demo tapes to any landlords willing to give you a few minutes dopesn't work anymore?

Geddy's Lee's Big Beautiful Book of Bass

If anyone wants their books signed for a far more modest fee, let me know. I have quite passable handwriting. I'll repeat my original and long-forgotten question is there now a list of the featured basses (or can someone take a photo/scan of the contents page) -
I ended up buying four or five different types. The best is a cheap stripey and long strap witha big velcro pad on it, I just cut it short so it just warps around my wrist. I didn't like the 'thumb' one although i was able to cut the thumb bit off.

No, they had them all set up ready. Just didn't bother plugging in. Swarby suffered serious hearing loss in the seventies which were part of the reason why Fairport broke up.

The seller's username is "tedkarslake" and lives in Leigh on Sea. He's also selling this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ovation-Custom-Ballladeer-1612/223533081085?hash=item340b9c21fd:g:yaQAAOSwa55cVZ6L A professional musician called 'Ted Karslake' is on twitter and shares tweetws with Paul Karslake, the artist who was indeed Ronnie Wood's BIL and also lives in Leigh on Sea. As the guitars are 'collection only' I think the balance of probability is that they are genuine.

Ivor Biggun and the Red Nosed Burglars, but it's been done...

I saw Martin Carthy and Dave Swarbrick in a pub in Brighton. The room was so small people were crowded outside the door. They went to get started looked at each other and Martin said 'let's not bother with the amps!' I spent a magical hour or two narrowly avoiding being poked in the eye by Swarbie's bow.

Might be three separate businesses to keep under the VAT threshold. Those mutes might look expensive if they were £36 each...

I thought a heavy metal band could be called Truss. But they would only ever be support...

I have some sympathy - I read this on Wikipedia earlier: Translates as "let the bass player use whatever effects he wants, as long a she keeps the volume down and we can send a dry signal to the punters". Surely what's needed (and I have no experience of big shows) is being able to trust the sound engineer (and making sure your DI switch is set to 'post').

I'm going to have to give this Westone Thunder proposal some careful thought now...

I've just been 'noodling' without the 12x12 attached. With the input gain set high and preshape on and gentle (3dB) lift at the bottom end I couldn't really go past 1 on the volume in my workshop. The 'dum, da-de-dum' riff from Human sounds great. As does a bit of Sly Stone. It's definitely sending me funky...

Harvey Bainbridge shouldn't be underestimated. Hard not to love Warrior and Hall of the Mountain Grill. Some of my other favourites are PXR5, Hawklords and Chronicle of the Black Sword. I felt The Machine Stops a few years ago was a return to form. -
What matters is the frequency response of the speaker as a whole. All a bigger woofer does is make it easier to design a speaker that can deliver power at lower frequencies, but its far from the whole story. You seriously need to stop worrying. If you rely on internet rumour rather than your own ears, instead of enjoying the new gear you will end up looking for ways to check it and measure (or worse predict on the basis of other's comments) its performance, which leads to convincing yourself that it has minor issues and has to be upgraded when in reality it probably does the job perfectly well. In am distressingly familiar with this story in the context of people who buy kit and get frustrated chasing test numbers rather than comparing the results they get against the results they need. They usually end up frustrated and out of pocket, plus they leave a trail of frustrated retailers who have perfectly good kit returned as sub-standard, that they then have to discount as b-stock.

Congratulations!

A rule of thumb that applies across most 'durable' goods is that once they show any signs of use the value drops to about 60% of new. You might get more for immaculate with-box items, most most buyers willing to pay, say, 80% of new value for a perfect example will usually consider going tehe xtra mile and buying new to get a warranty etc. It's very easy to assume that because I paid X for this and it's 'still as good as when I got it' that it should retain most of its original value. Obviously these rules don't apply where scarcity/collectability is a genuine factor. Also worth bearing in mind that (a) 'there's one born every minute' applies to buyers and sellers and (b) the secret to selling for a good price or buying a bargain is patience and willpower (plus a little luck).

Listen to some funk and learn some nice syncopated rhythms, that's what I'm doing at the moment 🙂
