We used an old small pa as monitors but wasnt loud enough then tried an alto active speaker between us but then had problems with feedback. We need to set it all really and play around with it as its always a rush at gigs
yeah it's always tricky trying to sort out feedback when there's already people in the room, I've been trying to get our singer to use in ear monitors but the tight arse won't buy any, one thing I've found could work is having the main speakers behind you (then you don't need monitors), I know it goes against everything anybody says but our singer's got a cordless mic and regularly goes out into the crowd (therefore he's in front of the main speakers) without any feedback problems.
 2.
Your set up is similar to us. What monitors do you use if any? Interested to know as we want to buy some and have tried a few without much success
We use a couple of cheap no name wedges we bought from a local company, we daisy chain one channel for the main speakers and use the other channel for the monitor, what problems are you getting?
 3. depends how much messing a bout you want to do, we play pubs mainly just use a Yamaha mixer amp http://www.gear4music.com/PA-DJ-and-Lighting/Yamaha-EMX512SC-Powered-Mixer/6JJ?origin=product-ads&campaign=PLA+Shop+-+GENERIC&adgroup=GENERIC&medium=vertical_search&network=google&merchant_id=1279443&product_id=8479d1&product_country=GB&product_partition_id=124394595679&gclid=CLWym5i4n8kCFYU_Gwod7hsPOQ and a couple of 15" Wharfdale Titans for vocals plus backline and that's it, the last gig we did some folk said we were too loud, takes us about an hour to set up then we're good to go, that includes a few lights. I've seen bands turn up with loads of gear, mic everything up, takes them ages, total overkill IMO
 4.
Not free.
this is very true, but the potential market, if you're willing to deliver, is huge compared to Basschat (which is also not free) and Gumtree, if you're selling something at the low end the fees aren't that bad, it's when expensive items are being sold the final fees are prohibitive, but a better price is probably obtained which can compensate for this. I think when people put stuff on here there's an unrealistic expectation of the value, I recently bought a combo off ebay far cheaper than the asking price was for an identical model on here. One thing to remember is when buying an item new there's VAT on it, so that means you lose 20% straight away
 5.
A fair point, but where are people selling them instead ? There isn't much on Gumtree either.
ebay?
 6. I think the prevalence of high end basses on here may be due to the pricing structure, i.e. not a percentage of the selling price just a flat fee
 7. we all slag off how much paypal charge, but I always use it when I'm buying of anyone that offers it (not just ebay), definitely gives you an extra layer of protection.
 8.
I'm pleased you got a refund, and I don't mean to make a personal criticism here, and I do understand that's the ebay position; but it seems to me somehow not quite right not to return the goods. I can see that one might argue the seller deserves it or that there is the problem of the cost of return but nonetheless I remain uncomfortable about it. Maybe because I've heard stories of others losing the goods and the payment when they are on the selling side of the fence, so to speak.
the fact that the seller is refusing to enter into negotiation means he deserves all he gets, all he had to do was offer a refund on return, doesn't even have to offer postage
 9. would be interesting to see the results
 10. supply and demand, if people refused to buy the tickets at inflated prices it wouldn't happen, I think they could charge a £1000 a ticket for Glastonbury and it'd still sell out, people can be such suckers
 11.
Didn't he pick Cynthia to start with though?
yeah, that was his good taste period, Yoko was his twat period, personally I blame the drugs, apparently LSD has all sorts of long term disillusion effects, perhaps they ought to use him as an example of what drugs can do to you, "look who you could wake up with, every morning for the rest of your life if you overdo it"
 12. just bought a Trace Elliot with built in 'dual band compression' it certainly makes it louder but I can do that with the volume control so I'm not sure about it. But I also always use a little bit of overdrive which, I believe is a sort of compression
 13. another Beatle was a bit of a twat as well, Lennon, I mean all the women in the world to choose from and he picks Yoko Ono, I rest my case M'Lord, on the whole, still much prefer his songs to Macca's though, so I can't say it put me off liking the Beatles, though his solo stuff is decidedly mixed
 14.
On an acoustic stringed instrument the bridge is the mechanism by which the vibrations of the string are transferred to the soundboard and thereby amplified. Unfortunately the more adjustment you build into the bridge the less efficient it becomes as more of this transfer is lost.
right, that makes sense
 15.
That's explained in the article linked above. The thicker the string core the more compensation is necessary. The plain B is thicker than the core of the wound G, so more compensation. Or something like that anyway.
right, but what I don't get is that only some acoustics have this type of bridge, and would it be so difficult to have adjustable saddles on an acoustic?
 16. I would imagine it's not what you know but who you know, word of mouth must be huge in the recording industry
 17.
(I restrung my electro-acoustic bass, so now the intonation with the fixed bridge is terrible, but hey, my ears are not that good)
I've got the same trouble with mine as well, I have to have the B string slightly flat open to get the fretted notes right. Not bass related but intonation related, why do some acoustics have that saddle where the B string is further back than the others?
 18.
When I was working at A Very Big Record Shop in Brum, Simple Minds did an in store for us, plugging their live double album. This was at the height of their pomp and every time I saw Jim Kerr on TV, my opinion of him dropped to an almost subterranean level. The band arrived and were whisked to the managers office for champagne and nibbles...Mr Kerr however, joined us in the staff room and had a cup of tea. No star trip, no ego. A lovely affable chap. I may never be a huge fan (although their first two or three records are ace), but my preconceptions were totally depth charged by 10 minutes in the man's company.
I think a lot of 'stars' just get totally pissed of with doing the round of interviews to plug a new record or whatever answering the same questions over and over is it any wonder they start to look bored and therefore up their own arses?
 19.
I just do open and 12th fret. Some people like to do 5th and 17th frets but I haven't got all day.
surely if the open and 12th fret are right then if any of the others aren't it's a case of the frets not being right, as I've said before it really doesn't matter that much on a bass (unless you're playing chords) nobody's going to notice, I was once chatting to a double bass player and asking him how he managed without frets, his reply was "As long as you're somewhere near it doesn't really matter"
 20.
Lot of money. Would being l/h make it more expensive? I once had a tidy '63 Watkins Rapier guitar which I got £250 for - that seemed to be a pretty good price. Jon.
bloody hell I've got a l/h Wilson Rapier, thought it was worth about 50 quid
 21. I've got a left handed Wilkins/Wilson guitar, very very average, that's got a zero fret too, a good idea can't understand why more manufacturers don't use it
 22.
other way on for me, if I really really like somebody's music I can forgive them almost anything

lost prophets anyone?
fortunately I don't like the Lost Prophets anyway, I really don't think I could forgive that, still like listening to the occasional Gary Glitter song though
 23. other way on for me, if I really really like somebody's music I can forgive them almost anything
 24.
Halfway through our last gig I realised we were on our 4th Stevie Wonder song - woops!
now that would worry me, the Foo's are ok can't stand Stevie Wonder
 25.
I've not got any of the albums but would have their greatest hits (if and when it gets released) in a heartbeat.
there you go http://www.amazon.co...s/dp/B002OFWG7E
