  1. Completely agree! I tried flats before and they just didn't inspire me as they felt dull and lifeless to play...not to mention the high tension which I am not a fan of. I like the sound of other players using them, but for me they just don't work. I've always loved rounds whether they be Elixir Nanowebs or D'addario. Currently using Fender nickel plated steel 45-105 on my Precision and loving them. I've always heard great things about DR strings but there's so much choice I wouldn't know where to start..any recommendations? 🙂
  2. Is the Ampeg scrambler available?
  3. If it's a 13 screw hole pickguard, it will fit. I bought a US pickguard for a 2017 Mexican P bass and it was perfect. The only thing is it will have the truss rod notch cut out but sure!
  4. Interesting! I prefer 1. Brand new and boxed but I've had good experiences with new or used.
  5. Hi all. I was just wondering what people prefer when they are buying a new (to you) instrument, and what are your reasons behind it if any? For example - Say you are in the market for another bass. Do you prefer to buy 1. Brand new, boxed, unplayed by anyone else's filthy mitts. 2. Display model, can try it out in shop, possible display discount? 3. Used, discontinued/vintage instruments, someone else has taken the depreciation hit. Just interested to see what people's thoughts are!
  6. I've been in a situation where there used to be a local originals band that I was a enjoyed and would go see play. When their bass player left they asked me to dep for a few gigs before they called it quits. Learnt all the originals set list in about a week and played 3-4 final gigs. A few years later they decided to reform and asked me to be a permanent member. So I accepted, hit the road, helped write new material and recorded an album with them. Only lasted for about another 3 years but I still always think of the original line up being the classic line up rather than myself in the band .
  7. Just noticed also, have you fitted chrome straplocks buttons to yours? Or did those come as standard?!
  8. @BrunoBass Wow!! That looks absolutely fantastic and I'm glad to hear about the sonic improvements it has made! 😀 You really have me tempted now to make the same upgrade to mine, it's probably the only weak aspect of the bass IMO. Again, it looks awesome!
  9. @brunobass I am very happy with mine! However, while I do feel a high mass bridge would be a bit more solid and look much cooler, I wouldnt class the original bridge as flimsy. It serves its purpose just fine but i may well upgrade it to a high mass in the future if there's a suitable one that would just drop in without further modification. Keep us updated if you do change yours!
  10. Not too bad actually. There's a good video on YouTube from the manufacturers themselves i think, which I followed step by step. It involves a bit of tuning, adjusting the thumb screw and retuning. Id say it took me about 45 minutes or so but once set up its sweet. The odd time it might need some minor readjustment but you soon get used to it. I love being able to go from E to D so quickly!
  11. Looks excellent man!! I'm digging my black one! Very versatile bass!
  12. Awesome! Post pics and I'm keen to hear what you think! Enjoy!
  13. Love hearing stories like this. I once lost my keys for a Hiscox flight case so I emailed them to ask if it was possible to buy some from them. A few days later a new set of keys turned up in the post direct from Hiscox. Respect.
  14. Can you tell I like black? I definitely think its a keeper, Thanks!
  15. I purchased a new amp about 4 weeks ago and never got round to posting here as life has been busy. Ampeg BA112v2 75w combo. I really wanted a new amp to replace my ageing but still functional Ashdown. My needs are just for home practice, an aux input, headphone jack, and to be able to be loud enough for the odd jam with 2 mates who I used to be in a band with over a decade ago (a guitarist and drummer) So after some research I settled on the Ampeg BA112v2 combo despite the known issues of a noisy fan. First impressions are great! This amp has great punchy tone, even with EQ set flat. It can go pretty loud for 75w too! The scrambler distortion adds a nice grit, I wouldn't say it's an authentic tube emulation but good enough for a solid state combo. Aux in and headphones work as they should and tone still is nice through headphones. Only downside is the fan is loud on start up but after a few minutes of playing I don't really notice anymore. Overall I'm very happy with this and what it serves it's purpose for. And for some added bass karma I donated my old Ashdown amp to a friend who has just begun his bass playing journey. 😀 Sorry for rambling on. Pic below.
  16. Wow. That is one nice looking piece of wood!!
  17. Great man! I really hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Postyour thoughts when you get it! Yeah they both look great. The P pickup as far as I know is in the standard position and the pickup itself is the same as those in Mexican Standard / Player Series Precisions. It is a very typical P bass sound when solo'd - thumpy and middy. Select both pickups together and you have a bit more bite and cut..Great rock tones from a passive bass in my opinion. Hope that helps! PZ
  18. I really much prefer the first one..could we call it the pre-lawsuit era D-bird? 😁
  19. I bought one of the Ibanez SR300's in the weathered black finish back in 2015 from Thomann when they were first released. After a couple of days of very light playing the matt finish started getting shiny as would be expected around the pickups. I didn't keep it long enough to know if the paint comes off like the SR500's. In my opinion I'd imagine it will be as fragile. Still though, great sounding basses! Enjoy it!
  20. Correct fretmeister. I purchased a Duff signature bass and can confirm it's 41.2mm nut. Definitely not jazz bass 38mm.
  21. Yes I am wondering this myself but I suppose it's modelled on Duff' s Jazz Bass Special from the 80's. But to me it's a Precision bass no doubt! 🤣
  22. Thanks guys! I'm very happy with it! A slight action adjustment required for me and I'll check intonation at the same time. It's a pity that the Hipshot wasn't fine tuned already for me but won't take much to do that when I have some more time tomorrow. Another thing I will add is that it feels heavy! Haven't anything to measure weight but as heavy as an old Warwick Streamer i had. Weight doesnt bother me though.
