Hipshot Rickenbacker Bridge - Saddles Gone Mad!
spongebob replied to spongebob's topic in Repairs and Technical
Was yours a Hipshot as well Mr. Machine? -
Replaced my original bridge on my 4003 with a Hipshot a few months back. Despite the horror stories, mine has been great - until last night! Without warning, the D string saddle moved flat right down, and the string was basically on the fretboard. I then had to adjust it upwards after nearly every song we played. Not a good night! Looked at it just now, and some of the other saddles have moved about as well. It's gone from all okay, to the whole thing going haywire! Online, some have used Loctite Blue, which will apparently let you adjust, without being affected by vibration. Just wondered if anyone else had had similar bridge issues, or can offer any solution? Just lucky I've got the Geddy for today's 12.30 gig!!

We had a guy approach us in a band I was a part of about 5 years ago before a gig. He made out he was official, and wanted to know exactly what we played, to see the level of which songs were being played most, so artists could benefit from royalties! I was extremely cautious - though he was from the Inland Revenue or something! I never did find out if he was genuine, or if it had ever happened elsewhere - I'd actually forgotten about it until now!

I can't wait to see it. Can never have enogh Jaco in my book. Maybe I'm all the more fascinated as he died when I about 13, so I had no idea until some years later who he even was. To me, not being there at the time, I suppose it's Jaco the legend I've taken from. I'm sure it wasn't all good, as in the biography.

Thanks - it's fine giving a quck tweak, just when knowing which way to go LOL!
-
Done it! Seems to have stopped it - will leave to settle and see how it goes. Deffo a lefty - thanks for the info!
-
It's the 4003 - should have mentioned that, sorry! It had a full set up about 2 months ago, and all was fine then...but it's been gigged a fair bit since. So a slight left turn to both (buzzing affects all 4 strings) should quell this?
-
Very simply - when you're action is fine at the 12th, but bass has developed buzzing at the lower frets, is it a lefty loosey or a righty tighty?

Wombats bass tone....a Stingray, a Jazz?...no, a P bass.
spongebob replied to iconic's topic in Bass Guitars
Here's that Glasto clip - excellent tone! https://www.youtube....h?v=g4KHCQ98mzs -
Thanks - should be fun! We're not a Wedding band as such (we're an R'n'B trio) but they wanted what they like, so it should be an experience!

I know the feeling! Always feel quite quite zonked out the next day, even if I get a good night's sleep. I never touch any alcohol on gig days/nights, or when I get home, so it's not that! Mostly work Saturday's, but I find if I'm up and about - and at work - I don't feel as sluggish as if I were at home. Off to play a Wedding reception tonight.....so late night + that Monday feeling....great!

Strings Won't Grip On Geddy Lee Jazz
spongebob replied to spongebob's topic in Repairs and Technical
I never cut strings on Fenders...
I won't in future, either!! -
That's the one. I bought one a few years back for that same reason. I do remember it being a bit chunkier than yer average J. Wish I'd have kept it. Block and binding....mmmmmmm!
-
Bit late now, but the Fender Classic 70s Jazz model has a wider than normal Jazz neck. Good luck with the new arrival!

Wombats bass tone....a Stingray, a Jazz?...no, a P bass.
spongebob replied to iconic's topic in Bass Guitars
I remember them on TV from Glastonbury a few years back, and I too was surprised at the P bass, moreover his tone. An old pub covers band I was in recorded a version of 'Moving To New York'.....just remembered that. Will not be posting it here.....! -
Signature Ric for me please. Tube Ampology bezel and Hipshot bridge. Then add about £500 to the normal price as I'll add a crappy signature to the headstock. Kerrrrr-ching!!
Didn't digg very deep then did you, seems a bit of a dumb question.
Very nice. Thanks for the kind reply. Only one g in dig, BTW. Bit of dumb spelling. Mods - please delete this thread if this is the line it is taking - thanks.

That relic'd Geddy is about 3.5k....and it's 'road worn'!

Been doing a bit of digging since I picked up my used Geddy MIM. Do I take it now all of the signature models are Mexican-produced? There's a fair few. I suppose in my head I always thought of anything MIM as a bit of a poor relation to the US Standards....but obviously they don't offer US alternatives to these basses, like the Standards MIM and US. Even though the GL feels exactly the same as my old MIJ, maybe even sounds better to my ears. Is Fender trying to up the MIM image a bit? There seemed to be bit of a debate when they moved the GL and MM manufacture from Japan....but after all, where it's screwed together doesn't reflect where individual components are constructed? ....and if you want a signature model, I can't see any alternative!

Strings Won't Grip On Geddy Lee Jazz
spongebob replied to spongebob's topic in Repairs and Technical
Here's how I did mine. Do I assume that the tension on the neck, etc. is the same regardless how the string is wrapped around the tuning post? Up, through, around, tied together....? -
Music Written on Bass Guitar - Echo and the Bunnymen's Latest
spongebob replied to HowieBass's topic in General Discussion
I listen to the songs there, and it all just sounds like typical late-Bunnymen fare. They seemed to turn in Travis or Coldplay after they reformed! Even though that was pre-Coldplay, you get the gist....just that style of music which totally turns me off! I like the early stuff, but I think they're a long way from that now, especially as Les P has been gone a long time now. I always think that Will S is a great guitarist, but somewhat underused compared to their earlier sound. Personally, I think they should have called it quits after 'Porcupine'. Yes, before 'Ocean Rain'.....sorry! -
Thanks Mart, I do love the finish on this one. My first Ric 10+ years ago was a FG - was nowhere near as nice TBH. Only had the smaller inlays, no walnut wings, and always sounded like it was being played through a muffler! I picked this one up last year, and it's been my go-to ever since. The good ones are out there.....!
