I've seen a Steinberger XM double neck, but very long ago. If you want only one neck, check Ibanez Ashula. There's the older white, and the newer coloured version. Half fretted necks I have seen few, but comments have been like they represent the worst sides of both worlds, and they require very hard setup. But I haven't had a chance to test one.

DIY walk up performer stand. Design input and suggestions please!

I may help you with this, too. I have to write down the history behind my one idea and two solutions. Stay tuned... -
There's also a component called step attenuator. Using metal film resistors and a rotary switch you can build something like this: The maths behind this is simple, whether you want to build a lin or log pot.
-
...so it could a very simple and battered, two strings missing... A bit like it could be found from George O's book. You could name it as Truth, maybe?

When the freq gets lower, the processing takes longer time. It's hard to produce reasonable sounds in the lowest register, pure physics. Would you consider using sounds one octave higher - at least the ones needed - and process your sound with some pedal? Some compression and OD/dist/fuzz? A hint of reverb may make the sound full. EQ is always your friend. Cabs are not even capable of producing any feasible sound in that 20 - 40 Hz area (instrument handling noises consume lots of energy - this is the reason to use an HPF). It's the harmonics we hear.
-
Weren't there also the G-bass (maybe in the picture?), and Brian Bromberg bass? What was their story?
-
Complicated solution. Check the Gruv Gear Duostrap that has three ends. I have had a slightly different approach, but need some time to write about it. Probably not that ergonomic, though.
-
I read the question as what would be useful, and my solution is the amp: a good eq sure has more possibilities than a resistor. I have few basses without pots, or a circuitry that can override hi-Z components. Amp eq and certain pedals are very good for sound sculpting.

. Drop tuners on all strings in the headstock and bridge + TransTrem . Auto tuner on the headstock . Luminlay and LED markers on the fretboard . Fretted and fretless mod with Autotune for fretless . Slide able interchangeable pickups . Pick up selector switch . A mix of tone woods . Mono and Stereo out jack . Built in internal Roland synth module . Preamp with headphones output . Parametric eq for bass lomid himid treble / Filter type eq / Tilt eq / Tones styler type tone control . Built in compressor . Built in distortion / drive . Built in octaver and transposer . Kill switch . S1 switch . Smart phone / iPad compatibility . String thru body option . Emergency tool kit compartment (similar to battery compartment) . Built in wireless option . Yes, surprisingly rare nowadays, although very powerful in just one knob. I think Quad had also another switch to choose the desired tilt frequency.
-
This is so called tilt-eq. Can be found in some Steinbergers, Quad preamps and so on.

I get your point. Too well. A looper has revealed many faults from my playing. I've had a feel how do I sound, but the looper doesn't feel anything. It just reveals everything I've played. Then I have fixed the wrongs, or at least few of them. Overplaying is my biggest mistake, and really hard to avoid. Theory has helped me a lot. I consider it as a toolbox, although I just have a hammer, and a Phillips #2. Hoping to get few more, but an old dog like me has already issues in learning those old tricks.

Built in compressor (where's that Canadian, when I don't remember his name? JTEX?), fretless with Autotune (I know, practise...), fretboard with lights for specific scales, detuner bridge (Zon Hyperbass, MManring), Steinberger TransTrem, easily detachable neck (fits airplane cabins), moving pickup(s) (Spalt vViper), touch pad (Misa Kitara/TriBass)...
-
...if there's only one pot in the circuitry. I don't like those extra high impedance components. Only when I want to cut the highs. I still rather use a dedicated eq (read: amp) if needed.

Why isn't the power amp in the cab? I suppose your cab will not be in the board. (But will the board be in the cab -> combo?)

Ibanez Pentatone PTEQ 5-Band Parametric Equalizer Pedal
itu replied to dave_bass5's topic in Effects
That's a five band fully parametric eq in pedal format. A bit like tce 1140 on steroids: smaller, lighter, and one more band. How much is that? -
After those mentioned in @Doddy' comment you might try Dolly Parton, Trisha Yearwood, Emmylou Harris, and my all time favourite, Linda Ronstadt (BTW: check her version of Esperanto with Don Grolnick on p). Their bassists have to be very good if they are even half as good as these ladies.

A rotary switch would allow ser/par switching, too.
-
I bought a rotary switch from @KiOgon. It has four positions: ON/tone1/tone2/OFF. Very functional, recommended.
-
Fernando Saunders and John Giblin are the first two that come to my mind.
-
Which equals you should try to find a second hand one. The price should be right.
-
But that's the bass of your parent, then?

Is there a popular bass player, that you just don’t get?
itu replied to Rayman's topic in General Discussion
Me too. I have seen some of them on stage. When a certain trio (SMV) was playing I liked Miller the most, when he played in the background. But soloing, meh... I do understand worshiping this very narrow band of very fast (mainly Americain or those few popular in the States) bassists. Where are the others, are there any? I am much more interested in those who are supportive. Flashy stuff is nice sometimes, but would I listen to bassists slapping their asses off on a daily basis? Larry Klein and his long, thoughtful notes on the other hand. At the moment I listen to ABBA - Lay all your love on me, and Tears for fears - Everybody wants to rule the world. Solos, anyone? I wish I can (read: could) make the songs sound and feel as good as these guys have done. Now I will take my bass and start my daily playing and try to reach the feel of those unsung heroes'. -
Good quality silicone cable (Sommer/Cordial/Gotham) + Neutrik NP2X, a bit like Cordial CSI 3 PP Silent 3 m for instruments. Cab cable, like pro snake TPL 1,0 LL. (Except your set has old plug connectors, instead of Speak-Ons.) I suggest 2x2.5 mm2, because people tend to think cables last forever, no matter how bad they are treated. 2x2.5 mm2 is too much now, but after some serious abuse and touring life, there may be 2x1.0 mm2 left. An addition: If you order your cables from @Chienmortbb, he really knows what is feasible and functional. You don't have to care about my previous comments.

Why does it have to be direct fit? Why wouldn't you put the one you want instead? Like this top loader? https://www.allparts.uk.com/products/bass-bridge-with-lock-down-saddles-adjustable-spacing
