Pretty good price considering the near-new condition, think these were about double that originally. That said, for reasons I'm unclear about SRs don't hold their value at all well, so lots of bargains around.

Aggressive, hamsfisted, hyperactive bludgeoning. The object being to fit as many notes into as little time as possible in order that the wrong ones pass more quickly. This doesn't always work, but as they're my own basslines I will always insist it's intentional, and if it sounds wrong - you [i]just don't get it[/i]. Man.

Very interesting bass, Chris Squire played one. Never sold in the UK - Electra was a US brand. So not very many of these around, and sadly many of those that are have been hacked about with, in emulation of the modified one that Squire played. Considering its rarity, that's probably an almost reasonable price.

I'm almost inclined to march off to the Pet Peeves thread with "Tokia" (dragging "Squire", "Jass Base", "frettles", "kneck" etc with it) but all those knobs are bizarre. Wonder what on earth they do? These [s]Tokia[/s], sorry Tokai LBXes come up very infrequently, narrowly missed out on a very cheap one locally a few years ago.

Rick 4001. When I first started paying attention to the actual instruments I realised most of my heroes at the time (Lemmy, Geddy Lee, Bruce Foxton etc) played Ricks & got the sort of agressive, bright tone I liked - and they looked cool as f*ck. Never owned one, quite likely never will - I have several MIJ Fakers that look better, sound great, are better built and don't have any nasty John Hall associations.

Having gone through countless gigs - and in fact life in general - without experiencing a lot of violence or threatening scenarios, I'm starting to wonder if there's a connection.

I remember seeing Tool at the London Astoria in 1997 - a punter climbed onto the stage & Maynard Keenan floored him with what looked like a martial arts move & completed the song sitting on top of him. Back in the real world, punters could sometimes be a problem when I when I was playing in a cover band around the Glasgow circuit. Between sets we'd often have to physically dissuade enthusiastically wrecked people from picking up instruments & howling down mics. All good-natured, fortunately.

Absolute madness. And awesome.

My first "serious" amp in the early 80s, certainly looked awesome and the light-up green control panel more than made up for any limitations it might have had. What's interesting is that I now have a washing machine that resembles an HH VS Bassamp. It even has a light-up green front panel. Well, sort of.

My CSL Jazz copy cost £60, it's my go-to bass for pretty much everything. Our guitarist has been known to gig with a Sunn Mustang Strat I gave him for his birthday a few years back. Cost me £5 from a car boot.

If ever I need an illustration of the concept "a solution in search of a problem", then I can point to this instrument. After scratching my head over what possible use this thing could ever have, I finally realised that the split colour scheme is a massive clue: it's the Brown Note Bass!

MIne turned up, it lights up in pretty colours when switched on so I'm delighted with it. It's a bonus that it seems to be a perfectly functional tuner as well. I did find the battery cover to be very stiff to remove and it looks incredibly flimsy too. Don't think it'll handle abuse well.

I like it but I'm probably biased - Atlansia is the brainchild of Nobuaki Hayashi - the "H. Noble" who designed all of Aria's finest, including the SB range.

Always GASed for a Status, specifically a S2000. I now know I'll never own one. Unless it's that one.
