1. Hi, Is the Bass a Standard or Deluxe model? Cheers, Steve.
tuesday but think its monday type bump!
2. Japan anyone? I loved the Quiet Life and Polaroids album and what about Mick Karn!? Simple Minds had a great Bass player in Derek Forbes, Sons and Fasination and for some good slapping on a Fender P the follow up album New Gold Dream. I liked the Associates and thier 3rd Album Sulk is a classic. Strange thing about the 80's most of the 'pop' bands had great Bass Players!? A shout for Echo and the Bunnymen!
 3. Now why didn't I think of that!? ;-) First thing I checked... looks like I am stuck with it sadly ;-(
Forgive me but have you checked the battery?
5. I have a 70's reissue which plays like a dream and have owned Squiers in the past I think price is the best marker between the qualities. The MIM's in theory are a better bass hense the price difference, but there's not too much in it. I would always hold out for an American which will be good 99% of the time - mind you it will cost you! Bass snobs with a grand plus basses will always look down there noses at Squiers, but its horses for courses and for the money they are hard to beat.
 6. Apologies to Pete, I had my heart set on this Bass and spent my holiday salivating over the pics. Out of the blue I have now joined the swelling ranks of the unemployed and am looking so forward to my appointment tomorrow at the local JSA (whatever that is!) I have to say Pete was brilliant and understanding and whoever buy's this baby is dealing with a top bloke. Any vacancies out there for a Project Manager!? Steve.
Hi all, This is back on the market. Apparently, bassatnight has just been made redundant, and cannot afford to go ahead with the purchase. I wish him the best of luck, but in the meantime, it's back up for sale! Pete
7. Cheers Guy's, I must admit the Lakland is favorite. I'll have a look at the one for sale on here. Cheers, Steve.
 8. I was wondering if anyone out there had any advice for me regarding a forthcoming purchase I intend to make. I have a budget of around £700 and was originally set on either a 70's resissue Jazz or a decent P, a pro player I know suggested I look at Laklands I appreciate its the age old question between a P and a Jazz but just to add to my confusion having heard a few Laklands on you tube and the Lakland website now I am really in need of experienced advice. I am a little worried about dipping into the second hand market after getting burnt with a dodgy Stingray a few years back off the Bay.
 9. Hi Gents, I have a potential big problem, my 1980 Aria SB1000 has gone all quiet on me! It may be an age thing but my Aria has recently decided to not send a lovely signal to my amp. A few weeks back it developed a slight buzz to its sound and after swapping the batteries having a look at any obvious elecrical issues it is now silent both in active and passive modes. I have a terrible feeling that the pre-amp has died. Can anyone recommend a good repairman in the Bexhill/Hastings/Eastbourne area? Much Obliged! Cheers, Steve.
 10. Hi, About two weeks ago one of my prized possesions a 1980 Aria SB1000 started developing a strange buzziness to its usually lovely warm jazzy sound. I tried all of the obvious; changed the batteries, leads, switched amps you name it but now when Passive mode is selected I get a barely audiable fuzzy sound when playing. When I switch to active theres no sound at all, a bass playing pal has suggested I might have a bad pre-amp which sounds very bad and where on earth can I get someone to repair this old but faithul old girl? I am in Bexhill on Sea (East sussex) anyone reccomend a good repair guy? I love the SB and it fits with an 80's cover band I am putting together perfectly. It will cost up to a grand to replace it these days. Advice appreciated. Cheers, Steve.
 11. Wow what a lovely Bass, would love to buy it but not sure the redundancy money will let me play! ;-) Good luck!
1985 Jaydee supernatural in black (serial No 05611) Made of wood, plugs into 'lectric, makes a noise. A beautiful bass, got a few dings but nothing tragic. See photo's. Can't play slap to save my life (and after reading the slap thread, wondered if it should be in a skip???), so it's gathering dust and deserves to be in a home where it gets used. Unsure of it's current value but guess you guys will give me some guidance. Hoping for around £700. If you want to come and plug it in and slap it around, I'm in east yorkshire. Got an Overwater on the way and if I want to keep it (and my soft dangly bits!) then I have to part with one of my collection. 12. Sounds interesting, let me know when you are willing to flog it... I am just looking for a toe-in-the-water fretless so don't want to fork out too much, just in case we don't get on ;-) Cheers, Steve.
I'll be selling my Jaco copy soon, USA Fender pickups and pots (and logo). Really nice player, my first fretless and only a bit of wear on the fingerboard (it's a de-fretted bass) Will be looking for £120?
13. Your right, so he is selling a fretless with frets on! Mmmmmm that's got me!
Here it is. Anyone know what the body is made of? It wasn't mentioned anywhere in the posting. Edit: oh, and scroll down to the "Is there a fretless version?" question. The answer may surprise you. S.P.
14. Mmmmm having trouble pasting the link, but there's a 'LAKWOOD' for sale on E-Bay - I am in the market for a decent fretless but something seems odd about this one - apart from the price - what do you think? Ste.
 15. Hi, My 1980 Aria SB1000 has developed a problem, literally overnight the sound has gone from bright and punchy (classic SB1000 tone) to a flat almost dull sound. I have changed the batteries cleaned everything up but to no avail. I treat these babies as if they were gold and I know that no damage has been accidently done to it (it's more than her life's worth! ;-) The amps are fine and my other babies still sound fine through them, so I know its the bass itself. Bearing in mind that this instrument is nearly 30 years old could the electronics be on their way out? Can anyone offer any advice or reccomend a suitable doctor to give her the once over? Cheers, Steve.
 16. Thanks guys' all comments most appreciated and some very good pointers. I have decided that I will go for both! Just ordered a P and will order the Jazz as soon as Christmas is out of the way and I can sneak it into the house 'unseen' ;-( Cheers again! Steve.
Yes, but what feels really nice in one man's palm might not be so good in another. (ooer missus). Bit like saying 'size nine shoes fit really well'. I prefer a Precision, and I have small-to-medium hands; my guitarist friend here has hands like shovels and hates the P, loves the J. +1. As is the P. Nothing quite like a P with a pick :-) Sorry, that's really unhelpful. Luckily P and J necks are easily swapped (and re-sold).
17. People, I am really in two minds between purchasing a Precision or a Jazz or possibly the P Hybrid (P special). I own an old Aria SB1000 which is a thing of beauty but I feel its sound is close to that of a Jazz so what I would really like is an instrument with a much fatter sound so the P would seem to be the answer. Ideally I would like both but following a recent redundacy buying the two might be pushing it with 'her in doors' mind you with three years salary perhaps a Wal or similar ;-) So what instrument would be best - the P or the J?? Anyone out there an expert in both that could give me a brief run down of the sound difference? I have a budget of £500 to play with.
 18. Thats got to be the worst copy I have ever seen!
You fool. Its clearly a Fender Jazz Base If that's real Fender I'll eat me Christmas tree
19. Hi Shonks, I have that Arsenal record! You going to sign it for me!? Cheers, Steve.
you can see some of my basses here: http://steveshone.tripod.com/ enjoy Shonks
20. Guy's 'n' Girls, Just seen this on the bay - looks like it has been moded, check out the jack socket. Fender Fretless Precision Bass What do you think? S. Whoops forgot the link...
 21. Just seen an Aria SB900 on the Bay for the princely sum of £795! As a big fan of Aria SB's I am gobsmacked, the SB1000 is the series flagship (not the 900) and I have seen second hand 1000's ones go for up to £700 but if you shop around you can pick one up for around £500 I will be amazed if this goes for that price! Anyobne got more money than sense? S.
 22. The first Bass I bought was a Westone thunder 1 in Natural, it was a hound of an instrument the tone was awful and it weighed a ton. I soon replaced it with an Aria SB which was a similar price but twice the instrument. I would go for a Thunder 3 if one comes up it's vastly superior. I seem to recall the action was very high and it went out of tune in a very short space of time - which was very frustrating at the time. Might have been just a bad one but then again it was 25 years ago! It does look in good condition though... S.
Westone Thunder. What a beauty! I've been gassing over one of these for a while, and the sound would suit the new band I'm standing in for at the mo, and this listing is doing feck all to help! If I didn't need to pay out a similar amount of cash next week for Council Tax I'd be all over this. EDIT: Although this is an absolute minter, and right on my doorstep to boot. I bet when I have the cash together to put in a bid in a couple of weeks, there'll be nothing going
