1. Love Mugstar but they don't play local enough, that's a good thing for them though. Do you use two basses sometimes in your stuff? What's up with the Ampeg? I was thinking of having a punt on a 1974 SVT but it may cost me a lot of money in the future, as I will run it very hard. I used to own an early 90's SVT II and that was lovely but a 70's one has always been the holy grail for me but I want it to be reliable.
2. And me.
3. I'ts still for sale, how come?
4. What's up with the amps, is the Sunn bust? We (I'm) writing a set to start gigging with, heavy, psychedelic, face peeling material. We have about 5 songs, need another 5. When the set is complete and we're so tight that we're loose, then I'll put a MySpace page up and what have you.
5. Fantastic. How does it sound?
6. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gotoh-Bass-Bridge-4-...usical_Instrume Here you go my son.
7. Side by side, with the 2x12 raised off the floor. I tried them either side if the drums but that was a waste of time. Having the 2x12 under the 6x10 would be a total waste as all that Glock goodness would end up in the backs of my legs. On top of the 6x10 would make amp changes a bit of a stretch. I would have liked that Tech 6x12 that was knocking about, did Waynepunkdude nabb that?
8.
Here's my Overwater beauty. She's become my main gigging bass and I think this is everything I've ever wanted in a J bass format.
Wow and wow again. That's a beauty.
9. I run my bass into an Ampeg SVTIIP pre, into a QSC PLX3102 power amp (3100 watts), then into a Tech 6x10 and a Glockenklang 2x12, sounds alright. I want an SVT still.
10.
theres a lack of joyfull abandon sometimes on this forum.
There is something exciting about going to a gig and seeing big stacks and hearing huge sounds coming from the stage. I saw Loop once and that was a blast to another dimension, lots of speakerage and lots of wholesome volume. Mr Foxen are you playing anywhere near me in the future? (Liverpool) Enormous volume and power cleanses the soul of dirt.
11.
I get the feeling your problem lies with your amp rather than your bass. Ashdown gear has a decidedly 'old school' bass sound, and don't really do bright too well. Have you tried other basses through your amp? I suspect you might find them all lacking that bit of sparkle. A
I thought that too, as I use to have an ABM combo and couldn't get anything out of it that I liked. I was at rehearsals a couple of weeks ago and heard this amazing bass sound coming out of a room, the door was half open and the bass player had a Spector going into an Asdown ABM 4x10 combo, it sounded great, not as good as me but not shabby at all. So there you go.
12.
IMO theres nothing wrong with the USA bridge and thru-stringing. its far batter than the standard piece of bent tin on the mex and squier models. Unless you want really long sustatining notes for reggae or dub or something i wouldnt bother with upgrades. I think there are better pickups out there and you could look at Nordstrands or Wizards for a deeper tone. Or you could look at an eq system like Audere or East JRetro for more flexibility. Not sure about EMGs as your bass could sound like any other bass with EMGs then. if I were you (and Im not) id hold off on any bass upgrades and see how much better your bass could sound through a better amp.
I don't understand what you mean about EMG's. I've got EMG's in my P bass, Jazz and headless and they all sound TOTALLY different to each other. This is a common misconception about EMG's, as is they are bright sounding with lots of midrange. They are powerful and give a great even tone and they have plenty of low end response, they do not make all basses sound the same. Upgrades wise, don't bother, you have a great bass there. Take your bass to the shops and try out some new amps. I owned Ashdown for a while, not a bad amp, then Hartke, totally different, much more presence, then this, then that all different. So try as many as you can and keep an open mind. Good luck.
13. Compressors are for ladies. The careful use of fingers on the bass guitar for controling dynamics has an effect that is far superior. Only kidding, I used a compressor for a while but found it took more away from my tone than it gave.
14. I like Zeb very much. Does he play nice?
15. Wal basses. Tried three, both 4 strings, both customs, heavy, uncomfortable necks, poor finishing. IMHO.
16. Love that avatar.
17. Nice Vic bass, that's the only Fodera shape that melts my butter. Does Kev now own that White Jaydee? Great price for the GB, what's incoming?
18. Is that rack handle shot?
19. Seems like a Harmony Central review. Is your name Tara or Pete? http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...+112+Combo/10/1
20.
Nope, doesn't do it for me. Lyrics are a bit lame IMO - also maybe I'm just not keen on her voice? Ah well, we are all individuals ("I'm not!")... Alex
Bland, record company tripe, can't stand the way she pretends to be wired, video just showing pretty drummer, rock music for those who don't like anything too challenging or dangerous. Cass is a dude though. I've seen SA years ago and I left after about half way through because of all of the above.
21.
Had my 62 p bass nicked from my house (and to order I reckon) back in the day .. That was horrible. Meanwhile you should ask the citezens advice about the fund to cover stuff like this when scumbags smash your stuff. You may have to wait until the theif is convicted though so it may be tricky ..
This has made me feel sick, do you know who did it and did you ever get it back?
22. There may have been an issue with a jumper lead.
23. Through the body stringing can shorten the life of your strings if you play heavily. I bought an old Japanese Fender Jazz and it had very little sustain, so I fitted a Badass bridge and it has transformed it, seriously. I use DR Lo Riders and it just delivers.
