In a band that plays 60 gigs annually, no. A band that does 5 shows none of the points would bother me. I could even live with the guy that comes to a rehearsal unprepared. He still has plenty of time to nail the material before the next gig. Blue

My favorite gig was not one if the big stage, big festival gigs. It was a small NYE bar gig. Great sounding room and it was the crowd that made it so special. Lots of other local known musicians in attendance and hard core live rock lovers. Mostly folks over 60. Blue

I think most do, and most have full time traditional jobs and families as well. I'm the odd ball. Blue

I'm single, retired and all the free time in the world. No hobbies outside of gigging. Blue

I think you get in trouble if you start believing and taking all the compliments on your playing from non- musician punters the wrong way. Blue

We usually play 5 nights in a row at Wisconsin State Fair, 8:00-12:00. It's probably my favorite week out of the year. I love it. We're all different. Blue

Agreed, and if your only playing 5 gigs a year, you have all the time in the world to prep to put on 5 great shows. Andit certainly shouldn't take or require weekly rehearsals. Blue

I only know how to know if I'm an average player. After 50 plus years of playing I know I'll never be more than average. I've never gone out and seen any other bar level players and thought they sucked. I always feel, I play pretty much at the same level as other bar band level bass players. Blue

I agree 100%. My issue is with the ad. They seem to be saying; "We play 5-6 gigs a year but our requirements are the same as a band playing 100 paid gigs per year." Blue

I have no issue with senior musicians that want to pull back and put their feet up. Blue

We played one of my favorite bars on NYE (we play there every NYE & Holloween) we are booked again in April. I can live with it. For me, it really depends on the venue. We played a new club for the 1st time on December 23rd with marginal success. We're back on February 14th. This club is fairly new to booking bands. The bands they have booked are known established credible bands so we're in good company. February 14th is cutting it a little short. Hopefully the place will start to catch on. It use to be a Harley Davidson dealership and someone bought it and sunk a ton of money into it and turned it into a bar/restaurant. Blue

I'm 64 soon to be 65. When I feel I can't keep up, learn material or drive safely, I'll milk it out for another 3-4 years then quit. ☺ Blue

I have no problem with up to scratch musicians that want this sort of thing. I have a problem with a band that does 5 gigs a year and expects top notch candidates. Why? I think it's expecting too much and offering too little. Blue

Playing bass and singing is the only job I've ever had that I can honestly say is fun. Blue

We're all different. For me, when gigging started to feel like a job I celebrated. I finally felt accomplished and was getting somewhere. Blue
