  1. The bloke I bought this kit off sells the bodies on eBay for about £30 which I didn’t think was too bad I think tram Olympic white will look nice but I have a aversion to tort!!!!
  2. No worries sounds like yours will be a bit more interesting than mine anyway
  3. I know someone who changed their cap from a 0.047uF to a 0.1uF and they reckoned it made a big difference to the sound it removed a lot of the brightness
  4. Did you end up using Hardglaze? If so how did it come out? I’ve just found some I had kicking about so I’ve started to use it on mine (still on 1st coat tho) I think the grain is looking quite nice!?! I don’t know whether to make the finish gloss or satin I’m kinda swaying more towards satin but who knows what it will end up being!?! I think it will look good in the end with Black pickguard and Black hardware?
  5. Yeah teak oil does dry quickly but if you can get quite a few coats on it before you put it outside then that would be good
  6. I would probably would go for teak oil as that’s for outside hardwood items, only problem would be it would need to be re-coated every other year really to keep it properly protected
  7. I preferred the look of the two humbuckers they balanced the look but each to their own, looking great tho!!
  8. My vote would be cream Or Black definitely no tort!!!
  9. That looks lovely!!! I really like the black on black!!
  10. Is that the Harley Benton project? That looks stunning!! I love the pickguard!!
  11. I had a Vintage V900 which the neck is very similar to an Ibanez and I just couldn’t get on with so I got a P bass instead and it felt so much more comfortable to me But I’m sure you’ll have loads of other recommendations of other people
  12. You could consider a squier Jazz or Precision I think the best thing you could do is go and play some different types and see which feel most comfortable
  13. Panga panga is in the same family as Wenge it’s usually used as a substitute for ebony
  14. Nice jig!! Have you made it so you can do different radii?
  15. That’s great news I think we need some pics tho i was just looking on eBay and came across a Marshall B30 Bass state amp for £79 collection only (Atherstone) I don’t know if this is any good
  16. I’ve altered the position for the neck and highlighted where the neck pocket will be I think this looks better Im still thinking that the end of the fretboard needs to be slightly less of an angle so it follows the lines of the body better
  17. I’m just thinking that it’s slightly different but I would want to recess the control plate so it’s flush with the body but I spose I can just screw it on top to start with and decide once I’ve painted it whether or not to put the pickguard on
  18. I’ve seen a few pics of 51/55 p basses without a pickguard and I think it looks quite good I don’t know how it will look red with walnut-ish neck and chrome control plate whether it will look a bit bland?
  19. That’s the template done for filling in the cavities Now just to transfer it on to some timber and get it glued up, sanded and filled then I can re-rout the pickup and control plate cavities get it all sanded lovely and smooth then think about spraying the body Ive decided on a Pearlescent Diablo Red finish, I’ve ordered a Cream pickguard blank (well polypropylene sheet virtually the same thing and a damn site cheaper) so as soon as that turns up I’ll cut the pickguard and start trying to get it together Then on to the Jazz Bass!!!!!
  20. Lovely looking bass!! Once again great work Andy!!
  21. I’m swaying more towards thru neck now because I really like the contoured look where the neck meets the body But your right the neck pocket does need to be made longer and move down as it’s a bit too bottom heavy at the mo
  22. Thanks I’m always open to advice that’s kinda what I was trying to do, the extra lines that you can see on the top and bottom edges is where I’m going to sand down the veneer more so it shows the contrast of the light and dark woods No doubt it will probably change a bit more when I come to actually cutting and contouring the body but I think it’s a good starting point I’ve had an idea but I’m not sure if it will work/look ok? but because I’m going to do a bolt on neck, on the back where the neck comes out of the pocket make the neck thicker there so I can contour it to the depth and shape of the body so it will kinda look like a neck thru or just do away with the bolt on and just do a neck thru which may/will probably be easier in the end?
  23. Looking at the plan again I wasn’t completely happy with it so here’s the updated version
  24. This is going to be a long build as I can get the bits as and when I can afford them hopefully I should get it done by this time next year Slight change of plan I’m going to do individual saddles instead of tunomatic bridge (as I can’t find a 5 string version anywhere) so I’m going to need some advice when I get to that stage Ive got two other kit builds to finish first then I can focus properly on this one
