  1. It’s all a bit of fun anyway I’m not making £3k guitars or anything But my next planned build might be considered a bit unconventional but I won’t spoil the surprise just yet not that it’s really exciting
  2. I think this one is lovely!! I would love to see how it would look without the pickguard tho?......
  3. I know that I have some odd ideas but not even I would cover it in suede Im not really interested in doing replicas, saying that I want to do a Adam Clayton style Streamer but it will be in the style of not a exact copy As this build isnt an expensive one I thought let’s try something a bit different The idea of a FF appeal to me as my builds go wherever the wind takes me but I’m sure the pure blood fender owners think it’s a travesty
  4. I’ve decided to go for this configuration coil tapped with push/pull pots......
  5. How about something like this?? I think that this would make a nice finish and show off your grain aswell......
  6. Looking really good!!
  7. Good choice sounds very nice!!
  8. I agree what finish you thinking?
  9. I’ve only ever come across Albizia as a wood for turning, the problems I encountered with it was that it splits a lot on the end grain and had lots of checks in it also it was quite difficult to machine as the grain is very tightly interlocked but I could have just had a not very good piece?? As you’ve said that if it doesn’t work then it’s not the end of the world so just go for it and see how it goes I’ll be interested in seeing how it turns out...... Also love the shape, but @Jabba_the_gut has a really good point
  10. Thanks for the advice but you say a stingray sounds good because the pickup is in the “sweet spot” but the pickup closer to the bridge than being central, but on your Sandberg it sounds good because it’s in the “sweet spot” which is in a central position?? I don’t know if it’s my inexperience with owning/playing basses with MM pickups but why is the “sweet spot” in two different places on two different basses??
  11. The ones I’ve been looking at can be coil tapped, If I understand correctly then it involves putting a switch in but I’m not entirely sure where the switch needs to be??
  12. I was thinking that this would be a good option as it covers standard p bass and stingray pickups placements Would be best to just wired them like a Jazz bass??
  13. Thanks for the advice I’m still undecided if I want just 1 or 2? I don’t know which would be better? The other configuration I was thinking was Or
  14. I’m doing a ‘72 style P bass kit build and have decided that I’m going to put a double Humbucker in instead of the split coils Can anyone advise me on how much difference the placement of the pickup will make to the sound/tone??? The positions I’m considering are, Or Or should it be somewhere in between?.....
  15. I think your right it needs to be about half way between where the normal pickups would be and where it is on the picture I haven’t got a clue how much of a difference it will make sound wise hopefully someone on here will be able to advise? I’ll do a new thread to see if I can find out?
  16. Yeah stingray style
  17. I think you’ve got a point 1 at the bridge is a good idea, I think 2 might be too much
  18. Here’s the different configurations I’m thinking about?......
  19. I’m toying with the idea of scrapping the split coil and putting in MM pickups in instead??......
  20. That’s a stroke of luck re the neck!! I thought you might have gone down the route of chambering the oak to lighten it but thats good news that it’s not overly heavy....
  21. Finally got time to sanding off the walnut stain of the neck 1 1/2 hours later........ It was quite hard work but I think it was worth it, You were all right it definitely looks better maple against the red/cream The neck will be a little bit darker after I lacquer it Now it’s time to sort out the pickup cavity.......
  22. Nice!!!
  23. @BreadBin sorry I meant do it properly not the bodge that they had tried to do it Ive always been a fan of the JBS but I would have to do it Duff style!!! I’ve been looking for a JBS project for a long while but they are always go for too high price a price for me
  24. So you weren’t tempted to make it into a Duff Signature? Nice and simple great job!!
