1. I was considering that but I was thinking how it was going to look with the neck pocket because I would have to pack the neck up the same thickness as the top veneer but would that make the back look a bit odd? But I’m a carpenter/furniture maker by trade so making a good job of filling the cavities won’t be a problem because it’s going to have a painted finish anyway if I was going to leave it natural that would be a different story Wheres the fun in just buying a ready made body!?!
2. Could you really consider the sex pistols as “greatest” their career only lasted 3 years apart from a short lived reunion in the mid 90’s but the sex pistols wouldn’t ever be about if wasn’t for the likes of the Small Faces, the Who and I know they aren’t British but the New York Dolls and Iggy and the Stoogies who they heavy took influences from Don’t get me wrong I really like the sex pistols I grew up listening to punk but in reality they could barely play their instruments
3. I always found Microsoft Publisher a lot easier to use than photoshop and it’s a lot easier to layer images and add text etc if you’ve got that program maybe give it a go instead?
4. Thanks for the advice I’ll give it a try, How do you finger it do you do two then three then three then three then back to two? because I’ve seen it done so many different ways that it gets a bit confusing?
5. Looking very nice!!! I’m doing a P bass build at the mo as well but I’m doing mine ‘51 style with split coils in instead of single, I hope mine comes out looking as good as yours!?!
6. Hi Grangur Yeah I’ll give that a go and see how I get on
7. In your opinion is the subscription charge worth it as I’ve been considering signing up?
8. Hi B’chatters Im looking to improve my playing so I’m looking for a tutor around the north wales area I’m based in Denbigh and I’m more than happy to travel up to about 25miles Please message me if you can help
9. Do you mean the ‘51 style? that’s the one I’m swaying more towards It will look a bit like this one when I’m finished but it won’t have a plain white pickguard on it, a different shaped headstock and I might change the dots for MOP blocks instead I haven’t quite decided yet
10. I sold I think it was a Marshall JMP super bass amp head I was told it was a late 60’s/early 70’s model and it had a 4 x 12” Trace Elliot cab with it for £150 when I was about 17 which I deeply regret proper dumbass move on my part It looked like this one but in slightly worse condition
11. Hi i going to do my first kit build, I bought a standard P bass kit but I’m probably going to modify it into either a Mike Dirt ‘51 style P bass or I might do it in a ‘72 P bass style as I’ve already got a standard P bass Either one I choose I’ve got to fill the pickup cavity to re-rout them to neaten them up as both pickguards won’t cover Because the body shapes are different I can just go and buy a ‘51 or ‘72 style pickguard I’m mocking up them at the moment to see if I can make a decision to which style I prefer The body is Basswood so I’ve got some on order to fill the cavities Which one does everyone prefer?
12. Ha ha i’ve got like that a few times where it’s not me it’s my hand that has a mind of its own
13.
Playing along to tracks is completely different than playing live with other musicians. Be carful not to over estimate your abilities. Blue
Sorry if you thought I meant that because I try to play along with backing track I think I’m ready to join a band I know my abilities and they are at the beginner level but my goal when I feel I’m ready is to try and join a band so I’m not really over estimating my abilities I’m quite a optimistic person so I prefer looking at it as “don’t under estimate your potential”
14.
Slow the lines down to a speed that you can play. Work out short sections. Gradually put the sections together and then speed up. In many paces you don't have to play all of the notes, use short cuts. It's called developing your own style. Everyone does it.
I don’t know if I’m gonna get crucified for admitting I use “Rocksmith” to learn but it is good in the aspect I can slow the track down and reduce the number of notes then slowly add more notes and up the speed only problem is that it measures the amount of correct notes you play so trying to use short cuts and developing my own style isn’t possible but I spose once I’ve learnt it I can start adding my own style in
15. That’s what I’m aiming for is to play in a band again or even feel confident to even jam with people but I stopped playing for almost 20yrs and only recently picked up the bass again so it’s feeling like a back at square 1 at the mo but saying that I still really enjoy trying to play so that’s spurring me on
16.
Sorry but putting the dirge that is Radiohead at 3 loses it all credibility to me.
Completely agree
17.
If a dog is born in a kennel and lives in a a stable with horses he's likely to start acting like a horse.
But acting like a horse doesn’t mean the dog is a horse it’s still a dog
18. I don’t play in a band but i try to play along with backing tracks I struggle to play more songs than I can actually play but I’m really struggling with “the trooper” I just can’t get the gallops however hard I try I’ve tried two fingers and three fingers but after I do a couple it all goes to s**t Was it just practice that made you master it or did something seem to just click and then you could play them?
19.
I think a British band would be defined as one where the members grew up and formed the band in the UK. Although AC/DC wouldn't qualify as British by virtue of the fact the Youngs were born in Glasgow and they have a Geordie singer. U2 don't count as all the members were raised in Ireland, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience don't count 'cos really it was Jimi who was raised with American influences and a couple of hired hands.
Sorry but I disagree if you are born in Britain you are British irrelevant of where you are raised, if a dog is born in a kennel but then lives ina stable does that make it a horse?
20.
Didn't The Jimi Hendrix Experience break big in England first. Maybe another blurred line since Jimi was American. Blue
That was the point I was making is the fact that the band was formed somewhere in the British Isles make them British or Is the fact the members of the band were born somewhere in the British Isles make the band British???
21.
British in the sense of British Isles? AC/DC are fair dinkum aussies though, someone mentioned them above. Surprised no one has mentioned Fleetwood Mac?
My mistake I always thought they were British because of Brian Johnson 😳 Technically Fleetwood Mac are classed as British-American rock band so the line is a bit blurred
22.
Last time I looked U2 were definitely not British.
Half the band is English (The Edge was born in Barking, Essex and Adam Clayton was born in Oxfordshire) and the other half of the band is Irish so maybe they could be classed as a Irish/British band????
23.
I completely get the building something from scratch idea. I just don't get the kit approach.
The end result is the same, you end up with a bass finished in the style you want, both of them will have no resale value what so ever, I would love to build a bass from scratch but I simply can’t afford the cost of sourcing the materials and hardware compared to a kit that has every thing included for a fraction of the price I’m a carpenter/furniture maker by trade so I have the skills, knowledge and tools to do a scratch build but not every one has so a kit build for some people is the only option as all you need to build them is a drill, soldering iron and very basic woodworking tools and with some kits you don’t even need a soldering iron to install the electrics
24. what about Saxon, AC/DC, Stereophonics or Manic Street Preachers? I personally can’t stand the band but surely U2 should be on the list
25. Hysteria was a great album apart from all the songs and the band
