1.
Sorry but putting the dirge that is Radiohead at 3 loses it all credibility to me.
Completely agree
2.
If a dog is born in a kennel and lives in a a stable with horses he's likely to start acting like a horse.
But acting like a horse doesn’t mean the dog is a horse it’s still a dog
3. I don’t play in a band but i try to play along with backing tracks I struggle to play more songs than I can actually play but I’m really struggling with “the trooper” I just can’t get the gallops however hard I try I’ve tried two fingers and three fingers but after I do a couple it all goes to s**t Was it just practice that made you master it or did something seem to just click and then you could play them?
4.
I think a British band would be defined as one where the members grew up and formed the band in the UK. Although AC/DC wouldn't qualify as British by virtue of the fact the Youngs were born in Glasgow and they have a Geordie singer. U2 don't count as all the members were raised in Ireland, and The Jimi Hendrix Experience don't count 'cos really it was Jimi who was raised with American influences and a couple of hired hands.
Sorry but I disagree if you are born in Britain you are British irrelevant of where you are raised, if a dog is born in a kennel but then lives ina stable does that make it a horse?
5.
Didn't The Jimi Hendrix Experience break big in England first. Maybe another blurred line since Jimi was American. Blue
That was the point I was making is the fact that the band was formed somewhere in the British Isles make them British or Is the fact the members of the band were born somewhere in the British Isles make the band British???
6.
British in the sense of British Isles? AC/DC are fair dinkum aussies though, someone mentioned them above. Surprised no one has mentioned Fleetwood Mac?
My mistake I always thought they were British because of Brian Johnson 😳 Technically Fleetwood Mac are classed as British-American rock band so the line is a bit blurred
7.
Last time I looked U2 were definitely not British.
Half the band is English (The Edge was born in Barking, Essex and Adam Clayton was born in Oxfordshire) and the other half of the band is Irish so maybe they could be classed as a Irish/British band????
8.
I completely get the building something from scratch idea. I just don't get the kit approach.
The end result is the same, you end up with a bass finished in the style you want, both of them will have no resale value what so ever, I would love to build a bass from scratch but I simply can’t afford the cost of sourcing the materials and hardware compared to a kit that has every thing included for a fraction of the price I’m a carpenter/furniture maker by trade so I have the skills, knowledge and tools to do a scratch build but not every one has so a kit build for some people is the only option as all you need to build them is a drill, soldering iron and very basic woodworking tools and with some kits you don’t even need a soldering iron to install the electrics
9. what about Saxon, AC/DC, Stereophonics or Manic Street Preachers? I personally can’t stand the band but surely U2 should be on the list
10. Hysteria was a great album apart from all the songs and the band
11. Goes without saying IRON MAIDEN!!!
12. I’m making 2 at the mo a precision that I’m modifying in to a ‘51 telecaster bass style but with split p bass pickups (so really it’s more like a Mike Dirnt Precision) so I’m filling the original routed holes to re rout them neater as the pickguard now won’t cover but I can’t decide whether to do a shorter pickguard with metal control plate or to make a ‘72 style longer pickguard? And a P/J style Jazz bass I’m just enjoying making them exactly how I want them to look I don’t know if anyone will be interested but I’ll post some pics when I’ve finished them to get peoples opinions
13. I wasn’t sure as it looked a bit like a Jazz bass special from the 80’s but with a different shape headstock but the body shape looks different this one looks like it has a slightly offset waist but the body on the special was virtually the same as a precision bass I’ve never seen a fender with a 2+2 headstock so that’s what threw me?
14. Hi Is this a dimension bass as it looks different to every other one I ever seen? If it’s not does anyone know what model is it?? Thanks
15. British Lion at a tiny place in Colchester support band was Ravens Age both awesome!!
16. Thanks for the replies Because of the offset body I’m calling it a win to me ha ha! Just out of interest is the neck like a Jazz neck?
17. I’m with Oopsdabassist if you like it then go with it I’ve got a White P bass with a black and white checked pickguard and a White telecaster with a black and white checked pickguard (I’m kinda sensing a theme going on) that most people don’t like but I love it!!!!
18. Hi I’m hoping that someone can settle an argument between me and one of my mates please I think that the Dimension body shape is like a Jazz Bass but he thinks it’s more like the P Bass If i could get people’s opinions that would be great Thanks
19. Hi 3below I did think down them lines, I have tried the next size up Allen key metric and Imperial and I tried to use a flat head that was virtually the right size but with no luck I was thinking maybe if I cut a slot in the nut and use a bigger flathead to try and remove it but I'm worried that if it's only mild steel it might break!?! If I can remove the bullet do you know where I might be able to get a replacement? Thanks
20. I've got another problem with my Ibanez GSR205 I've just checked the neck it and the truss rod needs to be tightened as the neck has got a hump but I think the previous owner has tried to do it with the wrong size hex key and has knackered the nut head!?! Apart from removing the fretboard to replace the truss rod has anyone got any ideas to how I can get over it?? Thanks
21. Thanks for clearing that up for me ikay I have some B470k pots but I won't use them then because I didn't want too much treble
22. Sorry my original post didn't really make sense what I meant to ask was what pots would anyone recommend? Audio taper or linear for the volume and tone? And is it correct that the higher the value = more treble Thanks
23. Hi I'm hoping that someone could help clear up an issue that's confusing me a bit?? I have an Ibanez GSR205 (2 x J pups, 3 knobs) that I'm doing up, all the pots have been removed before I bought it, I've tried searching for what pots it should have had but can't really find anything Which pots would be best for me to use some sites say A250k/500k other say B250k/500k which value would everyone recommend? Any advice would be great thanks James
24. Here's my nominations for worst headstock
